Among this all, the garments factories located in Sapura, Rajshahi, play a significant role in the economic sector. There are hundreds of workers in the garment factories whose socioeconomic status depends on the improvement and facilities given by them. The objective of the study showed that the socioeconomic and the working environment condition of the garment's workers based on those factors. 68 primary data samples were obtained by questionnaire and physical survey from a population of approximately 16500 with a confidence level of 90% and a confidence interval of 10%. With MS Excel, the data were analyzed, showing graphical representation consisting of pie charts, bar charts, etc. The study focuses on the point that most of the garment workers are satisfied to work here, but some workers claimed their salary to be inefficient for livelihood in their daily life. The medical facility, monthly wages, security purposes, transportation, etc., are one of the biggest obstacles to the socioeconomic status of garment workers. The study will influence the garments factories to intensify the facilities that are given to the workers. There are more than 4,500 garment companies are operating in Bangladesh. More than 80% of the foreign earnings are coming from this sector. At present, four million workers are working in this sector in which 90% are rural women. It is claimed by the employers that the garment companies have helped to develop the socioeconomic status of the rural women employed in this sector. Hence, this paper aims at identifying the socioeconomic status factors of the garment workers of Bangladesh. This study suggests that housing, water and sanitation conditions, medical facilities and first aid treatment, wages, social status, adaptation of cultural values and norms, attachment with labor unions, ownership arrangement, leave with pay and overtime are significantly related to the socioeconomic status of the garments workers of Bangladesh. These women do work outside in order to survive themselves and to feed their family members. They prefer working in garment factory assuming that it is comparatively safe for them and usually paying them regularly whatever the amount is. These workers' contribution in the garment industry is significant; in contrast the garment industry's contribution to them is disappointing. Throughout our survey we tried to find out the contributing factors that are reasonable for their lower economic and living standard. This analysis is based on the survey of 300 unskilled female workers in EPZ and non EPZ areas of Dhaka and Gazipur district. Comprehensive interview and observations of the living and economic conditions of unskilled female workers have been conducted through a structured questionnaire. Tire ultimate findings of this study is that the living and economic condition of female garments workers are in unsteady condition and they are still in the abject poverty. The study also attempts to identify the possible reasons for dispute among the workers. Results from the study have revealed that wage discrimination is the main problem for Garments workers and low salary for garments worker is the vital reason for industrial dispute. The analysis have also exposed that workload is not justifiable to labor act. The hypothesis test has proved that female garments workers faced more problems in compare to male workers.
