The antibacterial activity of T. procumbens phytochemical extracts was determined by agar disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Vibrio cholerae. The phytochemicals of the plant extract were analysed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and antibacterial compounds were determined by TLC-bioautography. Furthermore, the structural elucidation of the antibacterial compound was confirmed by IR, Mass spectrum and NMR. Significant inhibitory activity was observed with terpenoid extract of the plant against the test bacteria while less antibacterial activity was observed in alkaloid, flavonoid and glycoside extracts. Terpenoid compound treated microbes resulted in the leakage of reducing sugars and proteins through the membrane.
