And having taken a towel, He girded Himself. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>After that, He pours water into the basin, and He began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe <i>them</i> with the towel with which He was girded. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then He comes to Simon Peter, who says to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to him, <span class="red">“What I do, you do not know presently, but you will know after these things.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Peter says to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet, to the age.”</p><p class="reg"> Jesus answered him, <span class="red">“Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Simon Peter says to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Jesus says to him, <span class="red">“The <i>one</i> having been bathed has no need to wash, except the feet, but is wholly clean. And you all are clean, but not all.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>For He knew the <i>one who</i> was betraying Him; on account of this He said, <span class="red">“You are not all clean.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Therefore when He had washed their feet and taken His garments, and having reclined again, He said to them, <span class="red">“Do you know what I have done to you? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say rightly, for <i>so</i> I am. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Therefore if I, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash the feet of one another. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For I gave you a pattern, that as I did to you, you also should do. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor a messenger greater than the <i>one</i> having sent him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.</span> </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Predicts His Betrayal<br /><span class="cross">(Psalm 41:1-13; Matthew 26:17-25; Mark 14:12-21; Luke 22:7-13)</span></p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>I speak not about all of you. I know whom I chose; but <i>it is</i> that the Scripture may be fulfilled: ‘The <i>one</i> eating My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’<span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="Psalm 41:9">a</a></span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>I am telling you from this time, before it comes to pass, so that when it comes to pass you should believe that I am <i>He</i>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Truly, truly, I say to you, the <i>one</i> receiving whomever I shall send, receives Me; and the <i>one</i> receiving Me, receives the <i>One</i> having sent Me.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Having said these things, Jesus was troubled in spirit, and He testified and said, <span class="red">“Truly, truly, I say to you that one of you will betray Me.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>The disciples began to look upon one another, being uncertain of whom He is speaking. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>There was reclining one of His disciples whom Jesus loved in the bosom of Jesus. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Therefore Simon Peter motions to him, to ask who it is about whom He is speaking? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then he thus having leaned on the breast of Jesus, says to Him, “Lord, who is it?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Then Jesus answers, <span class="red">“It is he to whom I will dip the morsel and will give him.”</span> Then having dipped the morsel, He takes <i>it</i> and gives <i>it</i> to Judas, <i>son</i> of Simon Iscariot. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And after the morsel, then Satan entered into him.</p><p class="reg"> Therefore Jesus says to him, <span class="red">“What you do, do quickly.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Now none of those reclining knew why He spoke this to him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>For some were thinking, since Judas had the money bag, that Jesus is saying to him, <span class="red">“Buy what things we have need <i>of</i> for the feast,”</span> or that he should give something to the poor. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Therefore having received the morsel, he went out immediately. And it was night. </p><p class="hdg">Love one another<br /><span class="cross">(Romans 12:9-13; 1 John 3:11-24)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus says, <span class="red">“Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>If God is glorified in Him, God also will glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately.</span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek Me, and as I said to the Jews, now I say also to you: ‘Where I go, you are not able to come.’ </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>A new commandment I give to you, that you should love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love among one another.” </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 26:31-35; Mark 14:27-31; Luke 22:31-38)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Simon Peter says to Him, “Lord, where are You going?”</p><p class="reg"> Jesus answered him, <span class="red">“Where I go, you are not able to follow Me now, but you will follow afterward.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>Peter says to Him, “Lord, why am I not able to follow You presently? I will lay down my life for You.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>Jesus answered, <span class="red">“Will you lay down your life for Me?
