<span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>He said this, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and the purse was with him, and he carried whatever was put in it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>Jesus then said, Leave her alone; she has kept it for the day of my burial. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>For you have the poor always with you, but me you have not always.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>Many people of the Jews heard that Jesus was there; so they came, not only on account of Jesus, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>And the high priests were thinking of killing Lazarus also; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>Because on his account a great many Jews were leaving and believing in Jesus.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>On the next day, a large crowd which had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>Took branches of palm trees, and went out to greet him, and they cried out and said, Hosanna, Blessed is the king of Israel who comes in the name of the Lord. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>And Jesus found an ass and sat on it; as it is written, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>Fear not, O daughter of Zion; behold, your king cometh to you, riding on the colt of an ass. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>His disciples did not understand these things at that time; but when Jesus was glorified, then his disciples remembered that these things were written concerning him, and that they had done these things to him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>The people who were with him testified that he had called Lazarus from the tomb, and raised him from the dead. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>It was on this account that large crowds went out to meet him, for they heard that he had performed this miracle. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>The Pharisees said one to another, Do you see that you have not been able to gain anything? Behold, all the people have gone after him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>Now there were some Gentiles among them who had come up to worship at the feast. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>They came and approached Philip of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, My lord, we would like to see Jesus. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>Philip came and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip told Jesus. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to them, The hour has come that the Son of man should be glorified. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>Truly, truly, I say to you, that unless a grain of wheat falls and dies in the ground, it will be left alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>He who loves his life will lose it; and he who has no concern for his life in this world will keep it unto life eternal. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also will my servant be; he who serves me, him my Father will honor.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>Now my soul is disturbed, and what shall I say? O my Father, deliver me from this hour; but for this cause I came to this very hour. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>O Father, glorify your name. Then a voice was heard from heaven, I am glorified, and I shall again be glorified. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>And the people who stood by heard it, and said, It was thunder; others said, An angel spoke to him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to them, This voice was not on my account, but for your sake. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>Now is the judgment of this world; now the leader of this world will be cast out. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw every man to me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>He said this, to show by what kind of death he was to die. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>The people said to him, We have heard from the law that the Christ shall remain forever; how do you say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, The light is with you for a little while; walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overcome you; and he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-36.htm#aramaic"><b>36</b></a></span>While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become the sons of the light. Jesus spoke these things, and went away and hid himself from them.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-37.htm#aramaic"><b>37</b></a></span>Even though he had performed all of these miracles before them, yet they did not believe in him; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-38.htm#aramaic"><b>38</b></a></span>So that the word of the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled, who said, My Lord, who will believe our report, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-39.htm#aramaic"><b>39</b></a></span>For this reason, they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-40.htm#aramaic"><b>40</b></a></span>Their eyes have become blind and their heart darkened, so that they cannot see with their eyes and understand with their heart; let them return and I will heal them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-41.htm#aramaic"><b>41</b></a></span>Isaiah said these things, when he saw his glory and spoke concerning him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-42.htm#aramaic"><b>42</b></a></span>Many of the leading men also believed in him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they might not be cast out of the synagogue. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-43.htm#aramaic"><b>43</b></a></span>For they loved the honor of men more than the glory of God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-44.htm#aramaic"><b>44</b></a></span>Jesus cried out and said, He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-45.htm#aramaic"><b>45</b></a></span>And he who sees me, has already seen him who sent me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-46.htm#aramaic"><b>46</b></a></span>I have come into the world as the light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-47.htm#aramaic"><b>47</b></a></span>And he who hears my words, and does not obey them, I will not judge him; for I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-48.htm#aramaic"><b>48</b></a></span>He who oppresses me and does not receive my words, there is one who will judge him; the word which I have spoken, it will judge him at the last day. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-49.htm#aramaic"><b>49</b></a></span>For I did not speak of myself; but the Father who sent me, he commanded me what to say and what to speak. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/12-50.htm#aramaic"><b>50</b></a></span>And I know that his commandment is life everlasting; these things therefore which I speak, just as my Father told me, so I speak.<p><br /></div></div><div id="botbox"><div class="padbot"><div align="center">Holy Bible From The Ancient Eastern Texts: Aramaic Of The Peshitta by George M.
