And that day was the sabbath. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>So the Jews said to him who was healed, It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your quilt-bed. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>He answered and said to them, He who had healed me, he told me, Take up your quilt-bed, and walk. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And they asked him, Who is this man who said to you, Take up your quilt-bed, and walk? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>But he who was healed did not know who he was; for Jesus was pressed by a large crowd which was at that place. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>After a while, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, Behold, you are healed; do not sin again, for something worse might happen to you than the first. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>And the man went away and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had healed him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>And for this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus and wanted to kill him, because he was doing these things on the sabbath. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>But Jesus said to them, My Father works even until now, so I also work.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And for this the Jews wanted the more to kill him, not only because he was weakening the sabbath, but also because he said concerning God that he is his Father, and was making himself equal with God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, that the Son can do nothing of his own accord, except what he sees the Father doing; for the things which the Father does, the same the Son does like him also. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>For the Father loves his Son, and he shows him everything that he does; and he will show him greater works than these, so that you may marvel. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to those whom he will. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>For the Father does not judge any man, but he has entrusted all judgment to the Son; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>So that every man should honor the Son, just as he honors the Father. He who does not honor the Son, does not honor the Father who sent him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>Truly, truly, I say to you, He who hears my word, and believes him who has sent me, has everlasting life; and he does not come before the judgment, but he passes from death to life.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>Truly, truly, I say to you, The time is coming, and it is now already here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear it will live. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>For as the Father has life in himself, even so he has given to the Son also to have life in himself. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>And he has given him authority to execute judgment also, for he is the Son of man. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>Do not wonder at this; for the time is coming, when all those who are in the graves will hear his voice, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>And they will come out; those who have done good works to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil works to the resurrection of judgment.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>I can do nothing of myself; but as I hear I judge, and my judgment is just; for I do not seek my own will, but the will of him who sent me.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>If I testify concerning myself, my testimony is not true. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>It is another one who testifies concerning me; and I know that the testimony which he testifies concerning me is true.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>You sent to John, and he testified concerning the truth. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>But I do not receive any testimony from men; but I tell you these things so that you may be saved. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>He was a lamp which burns and gives light; and you were willing to delight in his light for a while.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-36.htm#aramaic"><b>36</b></a></span>But I have a greater testimony than that of John; for the works which my Father has given me to finish, the same works which I do, testify concerning me, that the Father has sent me.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-37.htm#aramaic"><b>37</b></a></span>And the Father who sent me has testified concerning me. But you have never heard his voice, nor seen his appearance. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-38.htm#aramaic"><b>38</b></a></span>And his word does not abide in you, because you do not believe in him whom he has sent.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-39.htm#aramaic"><b>39</b></a></span>Examine the scriptures, in which you trust that you have eternal life; and even they testify concerning me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-40.htm#aramaic"><b>40</b></a></span>Yet you will not come to me, that you might have life everlasting. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-41.htm#aramaic"><b>41</b></a></span>I do not receive any praise from men. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-42.htm#aramaic"><b>42</b></a></span>But I know you well, that the love of God is not in you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-43.htm#aramaic"><b>43</b></a></span>I have come in the name of my Father, and you do not receive me; if another should come in his own name, you will receive him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-44.htm#aramaic"><b>44</b></a></span>How can you believe, when you accept praise one from another, but the praise from God only, you do not want? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-45.htm#aramaic"><b>45</b></a></span>Why, do you think that I will accuse you before the Father; there is one who will accuse you, even Moses, in whom you trust. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-46.htm#aramaic"><b>46</b></a></span>For if you had believed in Moses, you would also have believed in me; because Moses wrote concerning me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/5-47.htm#aramaic"><b>47</b></a></span>If you do not believe his writings, how then can you believe my words?<p><br /></div></div><div id="botbox"><div class="padbot"><div align="center">Holy Bible From The Ancient Eastern Texts: Aramaic Of The Peshitta by George M.
