If Thou wilt, I will make here three tents?one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah." <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And, behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I delighted; hear Him." <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And the disciples, hearing <i>it</i>, fell on their face, and were exceedingly afraid. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And Jesus came near, and, touching them, said, <FR>"Arise, and be not afraid."<Fr> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus only.<p> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And, as they were coming down out of the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, <FR>"Tell the vision to no one, until the Son of Man be raised from among the dead."<Fr> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why, then, do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And He, answering, said, <FR>"Elijah, indeed, comes, and will restore all things;<Fr> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span><FR>but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they recognized him not, but did with him whatsoever they wished: so also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them."<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then the disciples understood that He spake to them concerning John the Immerser.<p> <A name="15"></a><p class="hdg">The Boy with a Demon<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/9.htm#14">Mark 9:14–29</a>; <a href ="../luke/9.htm#37">Luke 9:37–42</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And, when they came to the multitude, there approached Him a man, kneeling to Him, and saying, <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>"Lord, have mercy on my son, because he is lunatic, and suffers grievously; for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And I brought him to Thy disciples, and they could not heal him." <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And Jesus, answering, said, <FR>"O faithless and perverted generation! How long shall I be with you? Bring him here to Me."<Fr> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And Jesus rebuked it, and the demon went out of him, and the boy was healed from that hour.<p> <A name="20"></a><p class="hdg">The Power of Faith<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../luke/17.htm#5">Luke 17:5–10</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then the disciples, coming near, said to Jesus privately, "Why could not we cast it out?" <A name=""></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And He saith to them, <FR>"Because of your little faith. For verily I say to you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say to this mountain, 'Remove hence yonder,' and it will be removed, and nothing shall be impossible to you."<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-20.htm"><b>21</b></a></span><FR>["But this kind goes not out, except by prayer and fasting.]<Fr><p> <A name="23"></a><p class="hdg">The Second Prediction of the Passion<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/9.htm#30">Mark 9:30–32</a>; <a href ="../luke/9.htm#43">Luke 9:43–45</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And, while they were assembled together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, <FR>"The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men;<Fr> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span><FR>and they will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised up."<Fr> And they were grieved exceedingly.<p> <A name="25"></a><p class="hdg">The Temple Tax<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And, when they came into Capernaum, those receiving the half-shekel came to Peter, and said, "Doth not your Teacher pay the half-shekel?" <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He says, "Yes."
