Our paper is devoted to the analysis of MOOC market, both on a national as well as a worldwide basis. MOOCs integrate virtual educational space at the global level and their main characteristics include massive involvement, openness, online interaction between students and teachers in chats, video conferences, forums, automatic assessment of student performance while performing tests, and the system of mutual evaluation of each other\u0026amp;#39;s works by students. To further investigate the subject, the following methods were used: system analysis, synthesis, and generalization, as well as the method of comparison when identifying main trends in the development It has been found that MOOC, being an effective mechanism of lifelong learning, provides the development of general and professional competencies; it supports principles of openness and accessibility. We have analyzed the online courses located on such well-known Ukrainian online platforms as Prometheus, EdEra, and the Open University of Maidan. It has been found that Ukrainian online platforms started to provide their services not so long ago; they have been working since 2014. Most of the online courses (55.3% of their total number) can be found on the Prometheus platform. We have also analyzed the dynamics of online course development over the years on each Ukrainian online platform. The average number of advanced online courses on each platform and on all the platforms, in general, has been revealed. The years 2017 and 2019 turned out to be the most productive in the development of courses. The analysis of thematic areas of the developed online courses has been carried out; the identical sections available on each considered platform have been revealed. The largest number of courses is presented among such sections as Education/EIE (External Independent Evaluation) and Law, proving their relevance among users. The largest number of thematic areas is presented on the Prometheus platform. It is noted that education remains the main way to acquire new knowledge and form the necessary competencies. The main advantages of open educational resources, their classification, the reasons for the growing popularity in modern society are highlighted. It was found that massive open online courses are a logical continuation of distance learning courses, have their differences and features. However, some problematic issues related to the promotion of massive open online courses that need to be addressed are considered. An analysis of the number of online courses on Ukrainian-language platforms and their thematic areas. As of March 2020, there are 235 online courses on all considered platforms. The same topics for all platforms were law, training, education, media, economics, health. It was found that the most active developers of online courses on the platform of the Open University of Maidan were public and charitable organizations. Educational online platforms and international organizations are most actively involved in the creation of online courses on the EdEra resource. The new cohort of university students, known as Generation Z, cause their teachers to entirely alter their concepts, attitudes and methods of teaching so as to meet the requirements of a digitizing world with its innovative global economy, competitive markets and multicultural diversity. As a result, open online learning is increasingly forming an integral part of university course delivery and instruction and dramatically reshaping traditional teaching/ learning paradigm. The purpose of this paper is to analyze whether open online courses (OOC), especially MOOCs (massive open online courses) and SPOCs (small private online courses) may support different learning needs and styles of Russian students, enrich university learning environment and the higher school&#39;s curriculum with alternative educational modes and models for better learning outcomes. The methodological framework of the study rests on the comparative approach allowing accumulating best practices of using open online courses by top universities worldwide. Results of a survey carried out within the framework of the Monitoring of Education Markets and Organizations Project are used to identify the factors of demand for MOOCs among students and faculty of Russian universities. Findings show that the likelihood of learning in MOOCs or planning to do so is higher among active and high-performing students and faculty involved in research activities and upgrading their skills in summer schools. Studying in a top university has a strong positive impact on the probability of student participation in MOOCs.
