<a href ="../2_corinthians/1.htm">2 Corinthians 1:1–2</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-1.htm"><b>1</b></a></span>After these things having departed from Athens, he came to Corinth. <A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>And having found a certain Jew by name Aquila, a Pontic by race, having recently come from Italy, and Priscilla his wife; because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome: he came to them: <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>and because they were of the same craft, abode with them, and they labored: for they were tentmakers by trade. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And he spoke in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.<p> <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And when both Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was straitened with the word, witnessing to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And they opposing, and blaspheming, shaking his garments, he said to them, Your blood be upon your own head; I am pure: from now I will go to the Gentiles. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And having departed thence, he came into the house of a certain Titus, Justus by name, worshiping God, whose house is joined to the synagogue. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>But Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And the Lord spoke to Paul in the night through a vision, <FR>Fear not, but speak, and be not silent:<Fr> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>because I am with thee, and no man shall assault thee to hurt thee: because there is much people to me in this city.<Fr> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And he spent a year and six months teaching the word of God among them.<p> <A name="13"></a><p class="hdg">Paul before Gallio<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>But Gallio being proconsul of Achaia, the Jews of one accord arose up against Paul, and led him to the tribunal, <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>saying, This one persuades men to worship God contrary to law. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And Paul being about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If it were some injustice or wicked rascality, O Jews, I would bear with you according to reason: <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>but if there are questions about the words and name, and law appertaining to you, yourselves shall see to it; I do not wish to be judge of these things. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And he drove them away from the tribunal. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And all taking Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, beat him before the tribunal; and nothing of these things was a care to Gallio.<p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">Paul Returns to Antioch<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And Paul, still remaining some days, having bidden adieu to the brethren, sailed away to Syria, and along with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea; for he had a vow. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And they arrived in Ephesus, and he left them there: and himself, having gone into the synagogue, spoke to the Jews. <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And they asking him to remain a longer time, he did not consent; <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>but having bidden them adieu; and saying, I will return unto you again, God willing; he embarked from Ephesus;<p> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>and having come into Caesarea, having gone up, and saluted the church, he came down to Antioch;<p> <A name="24"></a><p class="hdg">Paul’s Third Missionary Journey Begins<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../acts/13.htm">Acts 13:1–3</a>; <a href ="../acts/15.htm#36">Acts 15:36–41</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>having spent some time, he went from them, traveling consecutively through the Galatian country and Phrygia, confirming all the disciples.<p> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And a certain Jew, Apollos by name, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came into Ephesus, being mighty in the scriptures. <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And he was instructed in the way of the Lord, and zealous in spirit, was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John; <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>and he began to preach boldly in the synagogue. But Priscilla and Aquila, having heard him, took him to themselves, and expounded unto him the way of the Lord more perfectly. <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And he wishing to go into Achaia, the brethren having sent him forth wrote to the disciples to receive him.
