but, unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.<Fr> <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span><FR>Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and slew them, suppose ye that they were offenders above all the men dwelling in Jerusalem?<Fr> <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span><FR>I tell you, nay; but, unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."<Fr><p> <A name="7"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And He spake this parable: <FR>"A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none.<Fr> <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><FR>And he said to the vinedresser, 'Behold, these three years I come, seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none; cut it down; why does it also make the land useless?'<Fr> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><FR>But he, answering, says to him, 'Lord, leave it this year also, until I dig about it, and cast <i>in</i> fertilizers.<Fr> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span><FR>And if, indeed, it bear fruit for the future, <i>well</i>; but, if not, you shall cut it down.'"<Fr><p> <A name="11"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Heals a Disabled Woman<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And, behold, a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and wholly unable to raise <i>herself</i> up. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And Jesus, seeing her, called and said to her, <FR>"Woman, you have been loosed from your infirmity."<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and was glorifying God. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But the synagogue-ruler, answering, (being much displeased that Jesus healed <i>her</i> on the sabbath), said to the multitude, "There are six days in which it behooves us to work; in these, therefore, coming, be healed, and not on the sabbath day." <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And the Lord answered him, and said, <FR>"Hypocrites! does not each one of you, on the sabbath, loose his ox or <i>his</i> ass from the stall; and, leading <i>it</i> away, water <i>it?</i><Fr> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><FR>And was it not right that this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound, lo, eighteen years, should have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?"<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And, when He said these things, all those opposing Him were being put to shame, and all the multitude were rejoicing because of all the glorious things which were being done by Him.<p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Mustard Seed<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/13.htm#31">Matthew 13:31&#8211;32</a>; <a href ="../mark/4.htm#30">Mark 4:30&#8211;34</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And He said, <FR>"To what is the Kingdom of God like? and to what shall I liken it?<Fr> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span><FR>It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man, taking, cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in its branches."<Fr><p> <A name="21"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Leaven<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/13.htm#33">Matthew 13:33</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And again He said, <FR>"To what shall I liken the Kingdom of God?<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span><FR>It is like leaven which a woman, taking, hid in three measures of meal until the whole was leavened."<Fr><p> <A name="23"></a><p class="hdg">The Narrow Door<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/7.htm#13">Matthew 7:13&#8211;14</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And He was journeying through the cities and villages, teaching, and making <i>His</i> way to Jerusalem. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And a certain one said, "<i>Are there</i> few who are saved?" <A name="25"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span><FR>And He said to them, "Strive to enter in through the narrow door; because many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and will not be able.<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span><FR>When the Householder rises and shuts the door, and ye begin to stand without and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, open to us!' and He, answering, shall say to you, 'I know you not, whence ye are;'<Fr> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span><FR>then ye will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Thy presence, and Thou didst teach in our streets.'<Fr> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span><FR>And He will say, 'I tell you, I know not whence ye are; depart from Me, all <i>ye</i> workers of unrighteousness.'<Fr> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span><FR>There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the Kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust forth without.<Fr> <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span><FR>And they will come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall recline <i>at table</i> in the Kingdom of God.<Fr> <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span><FR>And, behold, there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last."<Fr><p> <A name="32"></a><p class="hdg">Lament over Jerusalem<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/23.htm#37">Matthew 23:37&#8211;39</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>In that very hour, there came certain Pharisees, saying to Him, "Go out, and journey hence; because Herod is wishing to kill Thee." <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And He said to them, <FR>"Going your way, tell this fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons, and perfect cures, to-day and to-morrow; and on the third day I am made perfect.<Fr> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span><FR>But yet I must go on My way to-day, and to-morrow, and the following <i>day</i>; because it is not possible that a prophet perish outside of Jerusalem!'<Fr> <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span><FR>O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that kills the prophets, and stones those sent to her; how often I wished to gather your children together, as a hen <i>gathers</i> her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!
