<a href ="../mark/16.htm">Mark 16:1–8</a>; <a href ="../luke/24.htm">Luke 24:1–12</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-1.htm"><b>1</b></a></span>On the first of the Sabbaths Mary Magdalene comes to the sepulcher early in the morning, it being yet dark, and sees the stone having been rolled from the sepulcher. <A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Then she runs, and comes to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and says to them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have placed Him. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then Peter and the other disciple came out, and they were coming to the sepulcher. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And the two were running simultaneously: and the other disciple was running before more rapidly than Peter, and came first to the sepulcher. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>John looking in sees the grave-clothes lying; and did not come in. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then Simon Peter, following him, he came into the sepulcher; and sees the grave-clothes lying, <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>and the napkin, which was on His head, not lying with the grave-clothes, but separate in one place, having been rolled up. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Then the other disciple also came in, the one having come first to the sepulcher, and saw, and believed; <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>for they did not yet understand the Scripture, That it behooved Him to rise from the dead.<p> <A name="11"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/16.htm#9">Mark 16:9–11</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then the disciples departed again to their own comrades.<p> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And Mary was standing at the sepulcher without, weeping: then while she was weeping, she looked into the sepulcher; <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>and sees two angels sitting in white robes, one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus lay. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>They say to her, Woman, why do you weep? She says to them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have placed Him. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Saying these words, she turned backward, and sees Jesus standing, and did not know that He is Jesus. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Jesus says to her, <FR>Woman, why are you weeping? whom are you seeking?<Fr> She, thinking that He is the gardener, says to Him, Sir, if you have taken Him away, tell me where you have placed Him, and I will take Him. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Jesus says to her, <FR>Mary:<Fr> she turning, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which is called Teacher. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Jesus says to her, <FR>Cling not to me; for I have not ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and tell them, I ascend to my Father and your Father, and my God and your God.<Fr> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Mary Magdalene comes proclaiming to the disciples, I have seen the Lord; and He spoke these things to her.<p> <A name="20"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Appears to the Disciples<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../luke/24.htm#36">Luke 24:36–49</a>; <a href ="../1_john/1.htm">1 John 1:1–4</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then it being evening, on that day, on the first day of the week, and the doors being shut where the disciples were assembled, on account of the fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and says to them, <FR>Peace be unto you.<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And saying this, He shewed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples rejoiced, seeing the Lord. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And Jesus said to them again, <FR>Peace be unto you: as the Father hath sent me, I also send you.<Fr> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And saying this, He breathed on them, and says to them, <FR>Receive ye the Holy Ghost.<Fr> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span><FR>Whose sins you may remit, are remitted unto them; whose sins you may retain, have been retained.<Fr><p> <A name="25"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Appears to Thomas<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And Thomas, one of the twelve, the one called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then the other disciples said to him, We have seen the Lord. And he said to them, Unless I may see the print of the nails in His hand, and thrust my finger into the place of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe.<p> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And after eight days His disciples were again within, and Thomas was with them.
