By examining students’ online learning experiences during the COVID-19 epidemic in various situations, this study aims to present student voices of online education and explain why the implications are significant for student learning. Two nations are studied on a comparative window-Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates-having different levels of socioeconomic development, the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak, pandemic preparedness measures, and the growth of online learning. It further explores if the students want online education to continue after Covid-19 or not. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from eight students. The students mostly used Google Classroom and Google Meet. Internet connectivity, electricity, the difficulty in operating different software and platforms, and the lack of socialization were mentioned as some of the biggest challenges during online education; while the opportunity to learn different software and platforms, flexibility, and staying at home were mentioned as some of its benefits. The students had mixed opinions about online classes and the quality of education during Covid-19. As compared to other studies about school students in Pakistan, these students felt more comfortable with online education; however, they did not want purely online education to continue after Covid-19. Despite multiple challenges, online education brings numerous benefits. This quick and somewhat unplanned change in the mode of teaching-learning has created a lot of challenges for both the teachers and the students. It is evident that the students, especially the public university students are mostly suffering because of this change. This qualitative study thus focuses on the perceptions of the students of University of Dhaka about this new way of teaching and learning and its effects on their lives. Unwillingly, all educational institutions transited to online teaching. This study endeavoured to address the perceptions of Kurdish EFL university students of online education compared to on-campus education in terms of domains of preference, effectiveness, learning satisfaction, and challenges. To do so, data were collected quantitively as well as qualitatively. A sample of 200 university Kurdish EFL university students (112 female & 88 male) from private and public universities of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region-Erbil participated. The results showed that the overwhelming majority of the students have a negative attitude toward online education. Similarly, they preferred and considered on-campus education more effective. The findings also revealed that the overwhelming majority of the students stated online education do not suffice their learning satisfaction. Reports on its constraints and challenges appear daily in the global media. However, accounts of teachers' and students' experiences of this abrupt shift in pedagogical modality are conspicuously absent in the available literature. This article reports the findings of a study that explored teachers' and students' experiences of online education during the pandemic in the context of higher education in Bangladesh and Nepal. The online survey with 147 students and 76 teachers and interviews with a sub-sample of 17 participants indicate that they adapt the action potentials of the digital artifacts to local contexts and use them in the best possible ways to facilitate their communication and enhance student learning in difficult circumstances. The major challenges and constraints they experience in transitioning to online education include poor network, lack of digital skills, lack of technological support from institutions among others.
