Though the students, teachers and the parents, as well, braved this situation but there has always been a state of uncertainty in their minds. The students had an unknown fear for their learnings as they were not sure what the future holds for them. This research paper will be focusing problems; high school students faced during the online education process. Pakistan being a developing country, with limited technological resources, online learning was a challenge not only for the students and teachers but also for the parents as well. The ambiguity had left the students in continuous fear. In this phenomenological study, semi-structured interviews with open ended questions were conducted with five students from three different schools to share their experience of online learning. It further explores if the students want online education to continue after Covid-19 or not. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from eight students. The students mostly used Google Classroom and Google Meet. Internet connectivity, electricity, the difficulty in operating different software and platforms, and the lack of socialization were mentioned as some of the biggest challenges during online education; while the opportunity to learn different software and platforms, flexibility, and staying at home were mentioned as some of its benefits. The students had mixed opinions about online classes and the quality of education during Covid-19. As compared to other studies about school students in Pakistan, these students felt more comfortable with online education; however, they did not want purely online education to continue after Covid-19. Despite multiple challenges, online education brings numerous benefits. This quick and somewhat unplanned change in the mode of teaching-learning has created a lot of challenges for both the teachers and the students. It is evident that the students, especially the public university students are mostly suffering because of this change. This qualitative study thus focuses on the perceptions of the students of University of Dhaka about this new way of teaching and learning and its effects on their lives. The finding reveals that most of the challenges are regarding infrastructural conditions, economic condition, mental wellbeing and teacher-student relationship. Allegedly, people complain about poor connectivity, unavailability of machines and inefficiency of computer operating skills. Therefore, there is a need to explore the perceptions of academia and learners about online classes while pandemic lockdown. This study has employed a mixed-method approach in order to get facts and figures as well as the opinion of people regarding the incumbent issue. The explanatory model of mix method approach in which quantitative data and analysis lead to qualitative data. A closed-ended survey was designed to get facts and figures about perceptions of learners regarding online learning. A Snowball sampling technique, a kind of purposive sampling has been adopted. Quantitative data was collected from seventy undergraduate students through Google survey form and statistical analysis of data was done. Perceptions of teachers were gathered through an interview protocol designed to collect the opinion of teachers. It has been found that online classes are not effective without professional training and the provision of internet connection and gadgets at cheap rates. As a direct response to COVID-19, on the 14th of March 2020, the Pakistani government decided to close all educational institutions and directed Higher educational institutions in Pakistan to begin distance learning (DL) modes and to assist their students online regularly until the COVID-19 crisis is resolved. The objective of this study is to identify the challenges that Pakistani students faced while participating in online learning environments and (1) determine whether or not there are any differences between male and female students and different socioeconomic statuses of the students who faced challenges during online learning; (2) highlighted whether online education is still feasible in Pakistan or not. The research was carried out with their permission and was conducted using an analytical and cross-sectional study. The survey was collected from 550 students through Google forms. The sampling technique used in this study was random sampling. The results of the independent sample t-test indicated that there was a difference between the responses of male and female students regarding challenges encountered in online education. Online learning cannot produce positive results in developing countries like Pakistan, where a large majority of students do not have access to a reliable internet facility due to financial and technical problems.
