Este artículo se centra en una de las diferencias surgidas entre ambos festejos: el protagonismo de un pasado fundacional y nostálgico en la primera ceremonia y la apuesta por un orgulloso presente en la segunda. Se explorará, por un lado, el pasado nostálgico y el laudatorio presente que se configura en los eventos; por otro lado, se analizará aquello que dichos pasados y presentes activan en cada caso y los contextos que fundamentan sus diferencias. Se concluirá aportando algunas pistas para avanzar sobre los modos en que las políticas de ciencia y tecnología son experimentadas por parte de los responsables de cumplir con sus agendas. On August 1, 1955 was the first day of classes in the Institute of Physics of Bariloche (current Balseiro Institute), a training center of physicists and engineers based in Bariloche, Argentina. In 2005, as part of a larger ethnographic work that included open interviews and observations in the institution, I participated in the commemoration of its fiftieth anniversary, which consisted of an academic ceremony and a lunch of camaraderie. Ten years later, in 2015, I joined a new celebration with similar organization. This article will focus on one of the differences that existed between the two celebrations: the emphasis of a foundational and nostalgic past in the first ceremony, and the role of a proud present in the second. It will explore, on the one hand, the nostalgic past and laudatory present that are represented in the events. On the other hand, It will analyze what these past and present enact at each ceremony and the contexts in which are based its differences. It will conclude by providing some clues to advance about the ways in which science and technology policies are experienced by those responsible to acomplish their agendas. Ese aniversario motivó la organización de una jornada conmemorativa que fue dividida en dos momentos: un acto público y un almuerzo destinado exclusivamente a los miembros de la institución. Esos momentos, pese a variar en prácticas y formas, definieron el mismo eje de celebración: la tradición. Esto es, una versión legitimada del pasado que resaltó, en particular, la importancia de quienes se señalaron como los responsables de su puesta en funcionamiento. Este artículo tiene por objetivo sintetizar algunos de los resultados de un análisis etnográfico de esa conmemoración elaborado en el marco de mi tesis doctoral. Más precisamente, aquellos resultados relacionados con los modos y efectos de la representación y transmisión de esa tradición en el evento. Se trata de la representación y comunicación de conocimiento genealógico y de una dinámica de generación en el transcurso del evento. En una primera instancia exploraré, a partir del análisis del registro discursivo y de la disposición de imágenes y movimientos en la ceremonia, el modo que se lleva a cabo y las consecuencias que implica la articulación genealogía/ generación en el evento en términos de afirmación y comunicación de significados colectivos. Le pedí una reunión a la Dra. Katya Calderón, quien al momento de crearse la revista era vicerrectora de investigación. Me contó que, durante el III Congreso Universitario de la UNED de Costa Rica, se ordenó la creación de la Vicerrectoría de Investigación, presen-tándose en octubre del 2007 el documento titulado: &quot;Conformación de un Sistema de Investigación para la UNED&quot;, incluyéndose la publicación de resultados de las investigaciones. En sus palabras: &quot;lo que no se publica no existe&quot;, y por eso desde la creación del sistema ella tenía en mente una unidad de divulgación de alta calidad. La universidad ya contaba con algunos investigadores senior y buscó en ellos la creación de grupos interdisci-plinarios, capaces de investigar y estar a la vanguardia con el resto del mundo. En 2009, junto con la nueva vice-rrectoría, se pone en marcha la fundación de una revista científica con una visión amplia e internacional, en la cual se diera acceso a los investigadores de la UNED en todos los campos, &quot;porque ciencia es ciencia en todas sus for-mas y naturaleza&quot;, me dice ella. Tenía claro que al frente debía estar alguien con ex-periencia y de inmediato pensó en la trayectoria de Julián Monge Nájera. Él ya sabía cómo hacerlo, pues su reconocida experiencia, como editor de la Revista de Biología Tropical de la Universidad de Costa Rica, lo acreditaba (Fig. 1). Luego de salir de la oficina de Doña Katya, le escribí a Don Julián; quería hablar con él y que me contara lo que recordaba. Él me contó que, al hacerle Doña Katya la propuesta, pensó inmediatamente en un modelo de revista similar al de Smithsonian Contributions, la prestigiosa serie de revistas internas de la Institución Smithsoniana de Washington, que publica trabajos de alta calidad Fig. 1.
