The teachers managed to respond to this challenge using mainly their own resources while most of them had not received any relevant training. A nationwide survey was designed investigating teachers\u0026amp;amp;#39; views on distance learning disadvantages. 515 teachers working in Greek primary education sector - both at kindergartens and primary schools- participated in the research. teachers of a small secondary school (co-located junior and senior high schools)—in Karditsa, Greece—lived the experience of distance learning during the period of the forced suspension of the regular school operation. The specific study was an endeavor to strengthen the teachers’ reflection when the schools returned to their regular operation, regarding the way they experienced and, eventually, valued distance education. Teachers recorded their experience in a free-form text using open-ended questions (Züll 2016). The data were collected in April 2021 and processed with the application of the thematic content analysis method (Bonidis 2004; Braun and Clarke 2006; Elo and Kyngäs 2008; Tsiolis 2017). The responses were coded and the texts were thematically analyzed in categories that were not predetermined but emerged from the data (Miles and Huberman 1994). The trustworthiness of the content analysis was ensured after following the steps suggested in the checklist of Elo et al. (2014). Both teachers and students in Greece faced the challenge of the implementation of distance learning, national wide, during the pandemic. There is still a lack of a proper theoretical model and comprehensive scientific tools to measure the impact of COVID-19 in education. The purpose of this research is to study and analyze whether distance learning affected the Greek private high schools in different ways such as in terms of students' graduation or their success rate in the PanHellenic Exams, during the first outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on literature and feedback received from high schools' principals we captured important results over the use of distance learning and its effectiveness. More specifically, through the quantitative study performed on 63 out of 79 private high schools' principals, the researchers reached the conclusion that the majority of private schools managed distance education successfully. The working group of the current study consists of 65 teachers. The data were collected via an open-ended written interview. Content analysis was applied for analysis of the data gathered. Various important results regarding the use of distance education were obtained during the pandemic period and yielded significant findings. The first and the most important finding is that teachers have difficulties in internet access and lack of infrastructure, classroom management and human resources. Another challenge that participants reported was about teachers’ and students’ behaviours. The last theme stated by the participants is the distance education process itself. The findings reveal that the participants determined their strategies to deal with these problems with new arrangements regarding classroom management, getting help from colleagues, family members, and experts and communicating with students and parents. ECE had to adapt to an entirely new and unknown situation, including teachers, parents, and children. We qualitatively explored through semi-structured interviews both teachers' and parents' perspectives toward the implementation of distance education in ECE in Greece. Data were triangulated. The aims of this research were to examine: (1) The reactions of teachers and children/parents toward distance education; (2) Advantages and disadvantages of distance education in ECE; (3) Method preferred; (4) Parental involvement. Results indicated that although the shift to online teaching was abrupt, they managed to respond effectively by applying digital tools and teaching strategies to motivate the participation of children.
