I <i>am</i> pure! Henceforth I will go to the gentiles." <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And, departing thence, he entered into the house of a certain <i>man</i>, Titus Justus by name, a worshipper of God, whose house was adjoining the synagogue. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house: and many of the Corinthians, having heard, were believing, and being immersed. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And the Lord said to Paul, through a vision by night, <FR>"Fear not, but speak, and be not silent;<Fr> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>because I am with you, and no one shall set on you to harm you; because I have much people in this city.<Fr> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And he dwelt there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.<p> <A name="13"></a><p class="hdg">Paul before Gallio<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>But, when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul, and brought him to the judgment-seat, <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>saying, "This man is persuading men to worship God contrary to the law." <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And, when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If, indeed, it were some wrong or wicked villainy, O Jews, with reason had I borne with you; <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>but, if they are questions about a word, and names, and your own law, ye yourselves shall see <i>to it</i>. I am not disposed to be a judge of such matters." <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And he drove them from the judgment-seat. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>But they all, having laid hold upon Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, were beating him before the judgment-seat. And Gallio was caring for none of these things.<p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">Paul Returns to Antioch<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And Paul, abiding after this yet many days with the brethren, having taken leave of <i>them</i>, was sailing away to Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shaven his head in Cenchrea; for he had a vow. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And they came down to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself, entering into the synagogue, reasoned with the Jews. <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And, though they asked him to remain a longer time with them, he consented not; <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>but, taking leave of <i>them</i>, and saying, "I will return to you again, God willing," he sailed from Ephesus;<p> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>and, landing at Cesarea, going up and saluting the assembly, he went down to Antioch.<p> <A name="24"></a><p class="hdg">Paul’s Third Missionary Journey Begins<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../acts/13.htm">Acts 13:1–3</a>; <a href ="../acts/15.htm#36">Acts 15:36–41</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And, having spent some time there, he departed, going through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples.<p> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Now a certain Jew, Apollos by name, an Alexandrian by birth, a learned man, came down to Ephesus; and he <i>was</i> mighty in the Scriptures. <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>The same had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and, being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the immersion of John. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>The same also began to speak boldly in the synagogue.
