The present paper focuses on the basic challenges in executing online teaching effectively in higher education during Covid19 pandemic in the areas concerning: online teaching experiences; connectivity and access to technology among the teacher and the learners. As a corollary, both teachers and students have been going through a paradigm shift in platform of teaching-learning, i.e., from offline to online, from the old, chalk and talk model to one driven by technology. The central and the state governments have come forward with a cluster of e-learning initiatives during this juncture. In spite of creating governmental and institutional supports, substantial researches confirm that students and teachers have been facing wide-ranging challenges associated with online teaching-learning. In the near future, digital education is likely to be incorporated side by side face-to-face education. Against this backdrop, this paper intends to peep into the degree of preparedness in West Bengal and in India nationally towards online teaching-learning in higher education sector. Distance education became ubiquitous as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of these circumstances, online learning and teaching had an indispensable role in teacher education programs, even though debates continue on whether or not it is beneficial for prospective teachers to be exposed extensively to Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This descriptive study demonstrates how a student teacher course in teacher education was redesigned to provide student teachers with opportunities to learn and practice through online. It reports experiences and reflections from a practicum course offered in the teacher education courses in the Tirunelveli. It describes three phases of the online student teachers’ experiences Preparation, Implementation, and Reflection. Tasks accomplished in each phase are reported.
