This study is a portrayal of online teaching-learning modes adopted by the Mizoram University for the teaching-learning process and subsequent semester examinations. It looks forward to an intellectually enriched opportunity for further future academic decision-making during any adversity. The intended purpose of this paper seeks to address the required essentialities of online teaching-learning in education amid the COVID-19 pandemic and how can existing resources of educational institutions effectively transform formal education into online education with the help of virtual classes and other pivotal online tools in this continually shifting educational landscape. The paper employs both quantitative and qualitative approach to study the perceptions of teachers and students on online teaching-learning modes and also highlighted the implementation process of online teaching-learning modes. This work has been carried out at the time when the “work from home” initiative was announced by the Government of India, and all academic institutions were advised to take online classes. Observing the situation, research on establishing the online teaching system was conceived. In the second week of lockdown period, when there was an appeal for inviting ideas/suggestions, during the campaign launched by the MHRD, India 1 , this research work became even more certain of the academic transformation. Thus, the results of this study have proved the actual aspect of the online teaching-learning process. The predictions substantiated by fact may continue to come true in the future as well. As a corollary, both teachers and students have been going through a paradigm shift in platform of teaching-learning, i.e., from offline to online, from the old, chalk and talk model to one driven by technology. The central and the state governments have come forward with a cluster of e-learning initiatives during this juncture. In spite of creating governmental and institutional supports, substantial researches confirm that students and teachers have been facing wide-ranging challenges associated with online teaching-learning. In the near future, digital education is likely to be incorporated side by side face-to-face education. Against this backdrop, this paper intends to peep into the degree of preparedness in West Bengal and in India nationally towards online teaching-learning in higher education sector. Distance education became ubiquitous as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of these circumstances, online learning and teaching had an indispensable role in teacher education programs, even though debates continue on whether or not it is beneficial for prospective teachers to be exposed extensively to Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This descriptive study demonstrates how a student teacher course in teacher education was redesigned to provide student teachers with opportunities to learn and practice through online. It reports experiences and reflections from a practicum course offered in the teacher education courses in the Tirunelveli. It describes three phases of the online student teachers’ experiences Preparation, Implementation, and Reflection. Tasks accomplished in each phase are reported.
