Having been overpowered by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was picked up dead. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>But Paul having descended, fell upon him, and having embraced <i>him</i>, he said, “Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him!” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And having gone up, and having broken the bread, and having eaten, and having talked at length until daybreak, so he departed. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then they brought the boy alive, and were not just a little comforted. </p><p class="hdg">From Troas to Miletus</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But we, having gone ahead to the ship, sailed to Assos, being about to take in Paul there. For having arranged thus, he was readying himself to go on foot. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now when he met with us at Assos, having taken him in, we came to Mitylene. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And having sailed away from there, on the following <i>day</i> we arrived opposite Chios, and the next <i>day</i> we arrived at Samos,<span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="BYZ and TR include ‘after remaining at Trogyllium’">a</a></span> and the following <i>day</i> we came to Miletus. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>For Paul had decided to sail by Ephesus, so that it might not come upon him to spend time in Asia; for he was hastened, if it was possible for him, to be in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. </p><p class="hdg">Paul's Farewell to the Ephesians</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And from Miletus, having sent to Ephesus, he called for the elders of the church. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And when they had come to him, he said to them, “You know from the first day on which I arrived in Asia, how I was with you the whole time, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>serving the Lord with all humility and tears, and trials having befallen me in the plots of the Jews; <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>how I did not shrink back from declaring to you <i>anything</i> being profitable, and teaching you publicly and from house to house, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>earnestly testifying both to the Jewish and to Greeks repentance in God and faith in our Lord Jesus.<span class="fn"><a href="#fnb" title="TR ‘the Lord Jesus Christ’">b</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And now behold, bound in the Spirit I go to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me in it, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>except that the Holy Spirit fully testifies to me in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>But I make my life <i>neither</i> dear nor any account to myself, so as to finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus: to testify fully the gospel of the grace of God. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And now, behold, I know that all of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face no more. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Therefore I testify to you in this day that I <i>am</i> innocent of the blood of all. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>For I did not shrink back from proclaiming to you the whole counsel of God. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has set you overseers, to shepherd the church of God,<span class="fn"><a href="#fnc" title="BYZ and Tischendorf ‘of the Lord’">c</a></span> which He purchased with the own blood.<span class="fn"><a href="#fnd" title="Or ‘with the blood of his own Son.’">d</a></span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>I know that after my departure, grievous wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>and out from your own selves, men will rise up, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Therefore stay awake, remembering that three years night and day I never ceased admonishing each one with tears. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And now I commit you to God and to the word of His grace, being able to build <i>you</i> up and to give you an inheritance among all those having been sanctified. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>I coveted nobody’s silver or gold or clothing. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my needs and to those being with me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>In everything I showed you that by thus straining, it behooves <i>us</i> to aid those being weak, and also to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, <span class="red">‘It is more Blessed to give than to receive.’</span>” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>And having said these things, having bowed his knee, he prayed with them all. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>Then there was much weeping among all, and having fallen upon the neck of Paul, they were kissing him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/20-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>sorrowing especially over the word that he had spoken, that they are about to see his face no more.
