due to changing patterns of the microbial flora and their antibiotic sensitivity. The present study was designed to evaluate the clinical spectrum, bacteriological profile, antibiotic sensitivity patterns in neonates with suspected septicaemia in a tertiary care teaching hospital. Material and Methods: This prospective observational study was carried out in neonatal intensive care unit for a period of nine months. All the neonates with suspected septicaemia, were evaluated by sepsis screen (C-reactive protein). C-reactive protein positive neonates were subjected to blood culture for isolation of microorganisms. Antibiotic sensitivity testing was done with disc diffusion method. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Among 519 neonates, blood culture was positive in 183 (35.2%). Most of the neonates presented with early onset sepsis(65%), were preterm(59%) and of low birth weight (58.5%). Major clinical presentation was respiratory distress (31.2%). Gram negative bacteria were frequently isolated (68.3%). Most common isolates were Klebsiella pneumonia (34.70%) and staphylococcus aureus (21.8%) respectively. Gram negative organisms were sensitive to imipenem, followed by piperacillin tazobactam and amikacin. Gram positive organisms showed good sensitivity to vancomycin, teicoplanin and imipenem. High resistance was observed to ampicillin and ceftriaxone in both gram positive and gram negative organisms. Conclusions: Preterm and low birth weight neonates were more susceptible to neonatal sepsis. Gram negative organisms were frequently isolated. The present study would suggest rational use of empirical antibiotic therapy and to review the antibiotic policy periodically basing on the microbial flora detected in their region time to time.
Introduction: Neonatologists face a perpetual challenge in managing neonatal septicaemia due to changing patterns of the microbial flora and their antibiotic sensitivity. The present study would suggest rational use of empirical antibiotic therapy and to review the antibiotic policy periodically basing on the microbial flora detected in their region time to time.
https://www.academia.edu/113412960/Neonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacteriological_Profile_and_Antibiotic_Sensitivity_Patterns_in_Neonatal_Intensive_Care_Unit_in_a_Tertiary_Care_Hospital
https://d1wqtxts1xzle7.cloudfront.net/110378487/ijcmr_2539_v1-libre.pdf?1705127834=&response-content-disposition=attachment%3B+filename%3DNeonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacter.pdf&Expires=1732512478&Signature=VbOJN26RfwQEA9PMw~i9BNNR3atbJ~xp2H1P73mCZCHZX2R81Ed1vFq7IZkpHXecvIHs5jFyNgCSsQlromjXWGhCRdvIHp~LLQsPjd1jR4LZ7MhVgYiV4jFYNrmxviH6ySIzY0USNHqhaTTIrlBpByjo75Kn6mvaUNCs8wtDiF0vmFInIrv4v--tQcUKs~nVav9~TRhHd74-4AaHauXZu1io90EtfkNuu24tRL8Gy2TMEQ7DBXdJHP6E303TS2P59doYiMp~JRZxyCQRhKPG45cvE7l4ZviVdKStg30K3uOrYzcRikX3HhinrgnVzhWrJNCfSPb39jMvbRvXI9wISA__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJLOHF5GGSLRBV4ZA
Neonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacteriological_Profile_and_Antibiotic_Sensitivity_Patterns_in_Neonatal_Intensive_Care_Unit_in_a_Tertiary_Care_Hospital
https://d1wqtxts1xzle7.cloudfront.net/110378487/ijcmr_2539_v1-libre.pdf?1705127834=&response-content-disposition=attachment%3B+filename%3DNeonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacter.pdf&Expires=1732512478&Signature=VbOJN26RfwQEA9PMw~i9BNNR3atbJ~xp2H1P73mCZCHZX2R81Ed1vFq7IZkpHXecvIHs5jFyNgCSsQlromjXWGhCRdvIHp~LLQsPjd1jR4LZ7MhVgYiV4jFYNrmxviH6ySIzY0USNHqhaTTIrlBpByjo75Kn6mvaUNCs8wtDiF0vmFInIrv4v--tQcUKs~nVav9~TRhHd74-4AaHauXZu1io90EtfkNuu24tRL8Gy2TMEQ7DBXdJHP6E303TS2P59doYiMp~JRZxyCQRhKPG45cvE7l4ZviVdKStg30K3uOrYzcRikX3HhinrgnVzhWrJNCfSPb39jMvbRvXI9wISA__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJLOHF5GGSLRBV4ZA
dispatcherData: dispatcherData }); RMPs enjoy a great deal of practice in rural areas by taking advantage of lacunae in the public health system. Government of India is currently popularising generic medicines, but still certain doubts exist even among doctors and how far the RMPs are aware of generic medicines is a big issue. As medical students are exposed to knowledge about disease and drugs, self-medication is highly prevalent among them. Aims and Objectives: The present study was carried to evaluate the practice and perception of self-medication among the second and final MBBS students and to compare the self-medication pattern among them to know the influence of medical training. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional and validated questionnaire-based study was conducted among the second and final MBBS students after the Institutional Ethics Committee approval. The students were asked to fill the questionnaire after obtaining informed consent. Chi-square test was used to compare self-medication pattern between the groups. Results: Awareness of the precautions of self-medication, correct dosage, ADRs, over-the-counter drugs, generic and branded drugs, and complete course of antibiotics was more and statistically significant in final MBBS when compared to the second MBBS students. Fever and headache were the major symptoms for self-medication in both groups. Drugs most commonly used as self-medication were analgesics and antipyretics. Previous prescriptions by physicians and textbooks were the common informants of self-medication in the second and final MBBS students, respectively. Conclusion: Self-medication is highly prevalent in undergraduate medical students. Various health education strategies are required to prevent and minimize drug interactions, irrational use, and adverse effects of drugs.
International journal of contemporary medical due to changing patterns of the microbial flora and their antibiotic sensitivity. The present study would suggest rational use of empirical antibiotic therapy and to review the antibiotic policy periodically basing on the microbial flora detected in their region time to time.
https://www.academia.edu/113412960/Neonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacteriological_Profile_and_Antibiotic_Sensitivity_Patterns_in_Neonatal_Intensive_Care_Unit_in_a_Tertiary_Care_Hospital
https://www.academia.edu/attachments/110378487/download_file?st=MTczMjUwODg3OCw4LjIyMi4yMDguMTQ2&st=MTczMjUwODg3OCw4LjIyMi4yMDguMTQ2&
Neonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacter.pdf
https://d1wqtxts1xzle7.cloudfront.net/110378487/ijcmr_2539_v1-libre.pdf?1705127834=&response-content-disposition=attachment%3B+filename%3DNeonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacter.pdf&Expires=1732512478&Signature=VbOJN26RfwQEA9PMw~i9BNNR3atbJ~xp2H1P73mCZCHZX2R81Ed1vFq7IZkpHXecvIHs5jFyNgCSsQlromjXWGhCRdvIHp~LLQsPjd1jR4LZ7MhVgYiV4jFYNrmxviH6ySIzY0USNHqhaTTIrlBpByjo75Kn6mvaUNCs8wtDiF0vmFInIrv4v--tQcUKs~nVav9~TRhHd74-4AaHauXZu1io90EtfkNuu24tRL8Gy2TMEQ7DBXdJHP6E303TS2P59doYiMp~JRZxyCQRhKPG45cvE7l4ZviVdKStg30K3uOrYzcRikX3HhinrgnVzhWrJNCfSPb39jMvbRvXI9wISA__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJLOHF5GGSLRBV4ZA
Neonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacteriological_Profile_and_Antibiotic_Sensitivity_Patterns_in_Neonatal_Intensive_Care_Unit_in_a_Tertiary_Care_Hospital
https://www.academia.edu/attachments/110378487/download_file?st=MTczMjUwODg3OCw4LjIyMi4yMDguMTQ2&st=MTczMjUwODg3OCw4LjIyMi4yMDguMTQ2&
Neonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacter.pdf
https://d1wqtxts1xzle7.cloudfront.net/110378487/ijcmr_2539_v1-libre.pdf?1705127834=&response-content-disposition=attachment%3B+filename%3DNeonatal_Sepsis_Clinical_Spectrum_Bacter.pdf&Expires=1732512478&Signature=VbOJN26RfwQEA9PMw~i9BNNR3atbJ~xp2H1P73mCZCHZX2R81Ed1vFq7IZkpHXecvIHs5jFyNgCSsQlromjXWGhCRdvIHp~LLQsPjd1jR4LZ7MhVgYiV4jFYNrmxviH6ySIzY0USNHqhaTTIrlBpByjo75Kn6mvaUNCs8wtDiF0vmFInIrv4v--tQcUKs~nVav9~TRhHd74-4AaHauXZu1io90EtfkNuu24tRL8Gy2TMEQ7DBXdJHP6E303TS2P59doYiMp~JRZxyCQRhKPG45cvE7l4ZviVdKStg30K3uOrYzcRikX3HhinrgnVzhWrJNCfSPb39jMvbRvXI9wISA__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJLOHF5GGSLRBV4ZA
dispatcherData: dispatcherData }); RMPs enjoy a great deal of practice in rural areas by taking advantage of lacunae in the public health system. Government of India is currently popularising generic medicines, but still certain doubts exist even among doctors and how far the RMPs are aware of generic medicines is a big issue. It is most prevalent in developing countries like India and has the potential to do good as it is cost effective for treating common illness and also causes harm resulting in irrational drug use, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and antimicrobial resistance. Students need to be educated about the long-term adverse effects of the drugs and indiscriminate use of antibiotics to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Edit

require.config({ waitSeconds: 90 })(["https://a.academia-assets.com/assets/wow_profile-f77ea15d77ce96025a6048a514272ad8becbad23c641fc2b3bd6e24ca6ff1932.js","https://a.academia-assets.com/assets/work_edit-ad038b8c047c1a8d4fa01b402d530ff93c45fee2137a149a4a5398bc8ad67560.js"], function() { // from javascript_helper.rb var dispatcherData = {} if (false){ window.WowProfile.dispatcher = window.WowProfile.dispatcher || _.clone(Backbone.Events); dispatcherData = { dispatcher: window.WowProfile.dispatcher, downloadLinkId: "-1" } } $('.js-work-strip[data-work-id=88014292]').each(function() { if (!$(this).data('initialized')) { new WowProfile.WorkStripView({ el: this, workJSON:
A comparative evaluation of the perception of self-medication among medical students of a tertiary care teaching medical college and hospital - A cross-sectional study

Background: Self-medication is the use of medicine without medical supervision to treat one’s own ailment.
