Les savoirs « archéologiques », relatifs à ces restes matériels, jouent dès lors un rôle essentiel dans ces conflits, et qu’il s’agisse des savoirs développés scientifiquement que ceux possédés par tout un chacun. Or, malgré la centralité de l’esclavage dans l’histoire sociale de la péninsule Arabique, son étude reste très peu investie par les sciences sociales. Les massacres « hamidiens » de 1894-1896, qui correspondent à une période charnière dans l’histoire politique et sociale de l’Empire ottoman, soulèvent de nombreuses questions sur les éléments de continuité et de rupture que l’on peut mettre en évidence avec le génocide des Arméniens en 1915-1916. Loin de se limiter à une approche historiographique, le présent appel à contributions s’adresse à toutes les disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales.
