This article documents how the positioning of two “engaged researchers” coordinating a research for development project aimed at supporting Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) policies in Burkina Faso have evolved with time. Defining engagement as being at the interface between research and policy, the researchers have made explicit that their objective was to enhance participation in policy implementation and to follow participatory approaches to do so, right from the start of the project. that researchers and practitioners may have in the way participatory approaches unfold has long been documented. Such analysis notably stress that researchers’ stances towards the issue of power may vary significantly. This article documents how the positioning of two “engaged researchers” coordinating a research for development project aimed at supporting Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) policies in Burkina Faso have evolved with time. Lorsqu'un chercheur analyse le traitement médiatique d'un sujet qu'il connaît bien, pour des raisons personnelles, et dans lequel il se sent impliqué, il peut repérer assez facilement les approximations et les erreurs factuelles. Pour une bonne part, celles-ci sont dues aux limites d'un fonctionnement professionnel de plus en plus précarisé, et ne relèvent pas nécessairement d'une volonté de diabolisation d'une des parties. Dans le conflit israélo-palestinien, la mise en avant de quelques exemples problématiques pour dénoncer un engagement anti-israélien généralisé n'est pas confirmée par une analyse exhaustive dans la longue durée. En outre, la sensibilité des rédactions, soumise à une pression de toutes les parties, les amène à une prudence sémantique permanente. Cependant, la nécessaire mise en récit de l'information appelle des formes de construction stéréotypées, simplifiées, favorisant des schémas oppositionnels. travers d’une approche socio-historique, aux militants d’une organisation d’éducation populaire, la Ligue de l’enseignement [1] (LDE), et particulièrement aux enseignants. Depuis la fin du XIXème siècle, ces derniers font de la laïcité la valeur essentielle à défendre, face à l’influence de l’église catholique, notamment en ce qui concerne la question scolaire. Ce groupe social a construit une identité laïque autour d’un système de valeurs partagées. L’enseignant est donc partisan de l’idéologie laïque. En effet, il a été, « instituteur », disposant souvent d’une culture politique solide, prenant sa source dans des espaces de formation et de socialisation spécifiques, tels que les amicales laïques, les sous des écoles, les syndicats ou les écoles normales. Les enseignants du premier degré étaient nombreux à militer à la LDE. Aujourd’hui, l’église catholique ayant reconnu le principe de laïcité, la rivalité a perdu de son sens et le conflit scolaire semble apaisé. Parallèlement, les grandes mobilisations du corps enseignant pour défendre l’école laïque, n’ont pas suffi à mettre en place un Service Public Unifié et Laïque de l’Education Nationale [2]. Alors qu'on les retrouvait en masse et très organisés dans les associations de l'éducation populaire, on constate depuis, un détachement des enseignants à l'égard des structures fédératives traditionnelles. Pourtant dès les débuts de la LDE, le corps enseignant avait investi cette structure. Or de nos jours, il semble que ce groupe social ne se renouvelle plus, au point d’accepter une absence des enseignants. On peut alors se demander, dans quelle mesure l’identité laïque enseignante tend à disparaître de la LDE ? De plus, depuis la fin des années 1990, on parle effectivement d'une crise du militantisme, nous conduisant ainsi à nous intéresser de près, à cette identité et culture militante.
