glorify thy son, that thy son also may glorify thee. <A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>for thou hast given him power over all men, that he might give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>and this is life eternal, to acknowledge thee to be the only true God, and Jesus to be the Messiah whom thou hast sent. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>and now, O father, glorify me in heaven, with the glory which I had before the creation of the world.<p> <A name="7"></a><p class="hdg">Prayer for the Disciples<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>I have displayed thy name among those whom you have chosen out of the world for me: thine they were, and you gave them me; and they have kept thy word. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>now they believe that the instructions you gave me came from thee. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>for I have given to them the instructions which you gave me; and they have received them; and have sincerely believ'd that I came from thee, and are persuaded that thou didst send me. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>"It is for them I pray: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me, because they are thine. <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>for every thing that is mine is thine, and what is thine is mine, and I am glorified by them. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>and now I shall be no more in the world, but they will be in the world, when I am come to thee, holy father keep them by that authority, with which thou hast invested me, that they may be one, as we are. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>by your authority I have kept them, during my being with them in the world: those that you gave me I have kept, and not one of them is lost, except the son of perdition: according as the scripture foretold.<p> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>now that I am coming to thee, while I am here, I make these requests for them, that their joy in me may be compleat. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>I do not pray you to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the malignity of it. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>sanctify them by the truth: thy word is truth. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>as thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>and for their sakes I consecrate myself, that they also might be consecrated by the truth.<p> <A name="21"></a><p class="hdg">Prayer for All Believers<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>neither pray I for these alone, but for those also who shall believe on me through their preaching. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>that they all may be one, as thou, father, art in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.<p> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>and the glory which thou gavest me, I have given them: that they may be one, even as we are one. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>I in them, and thou in me, that they may have a perfect union, and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/17-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>father, I desire that they also whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am going;
