for the sons came even to the breaking forth and not strength to bring forth. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Perhaps Jehovah thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh whom his lord the king of Assur sent him to reproach the living God, and judge upon the words which Jehovah thy God heard; and lift thou up a prayer for the remnant being found.<p> <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And the servants of king Hezekiah will come to Isaiah. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And Isaiah will say to them, Thus shall ye say to your lord, Thus said Jehovah, Thou shalt not fear from the face of the words which thou heardest which the boys of the king of Assur reviled me. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Behold me giving a spirit into him and he heard a report, and he turned back to his land; and I caused him to fall by the sword in his land.<p> <A name="9"></a><p class="hdg">Sennacherib’s Blasphemous Letter<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../2_kings/19.htm#8">2 Kings 19:8–13</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And Rabshakeh will turn back and find the king of Assur warring against Libnah: for he heard that he removed from Lachish. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And he heard concerning Tirhakah, king of Cush, saying, He came forth to war with thee. And he will hear, and send messengers to Hezekiah, saying, <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Thus shall ye say to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Thy God in whom thou trustest shall not lift thee up in him, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assur. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Behold, thou heardest what the kings of Assur did to all the lands to destroy them; and shalt thou be delivered? <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Did the gods of the nations deliver them which my fathers destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph and the sons of Eden which were in Thelassar? <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Where the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king to the city of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivah?<p> <A name="15"></a><p class="hdg">Hezekiah’s Prayer<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../2_kings/19.htm#14">2 Kings 19:14–19</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And Hezekiah will take the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it: and he will go up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah will spread it before Jehovah. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And Hezekiah will pray to Jehovah, saying, <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Jehovah of armies, God of Israel, dwelling in the cherubim, thou thyself God alone to all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made the heavens and the earth. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Bend, O Jehovah, thine ear, and hear; open, O Jehovah, thine eye, and see; and hear all the words of Senherib which he sent to reproach the living God. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Indeed, O Jehovah, the kings of Assur laid waste all the lands, and their land; <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And he gave their gods into fire; for they were not God but the work of man's hands, wood and stone: and they will destroy them. <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And now, Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, and all the kingdoms of the earth shall know that thou alone art Jehovah.<p> <A name="22"></a><p class="hdg">Sennacherib’s Fall Prophesied<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../2_kings/19.htm#20">2 Kings 19:20–34</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And Isaiah son of Amos will send to Hezekiah, saying, Thus said Jehovah God of Israel, Because thou didst pray to me against Senherib the king of Assur.<p> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>This the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion despising to thee, deriding to thee; the daughter of Jerusalem shook her head after thee.<p> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Whom didst thou reproach and revile, and against whom didst thou raise up the voice, and wilt thou lift up thine eyes on high to the Holy One of Israel?<p> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>By the hand of thy servants thou didst reproach Jehovah, and wilt thou say, By the multitude of my chariots I came up to the height of the mountains, to the thighs of Lebanon; and I will cut down the stature of his cedars, the choicest of his cypresses: and I will go into the height of his extremity, the forest of his Carmel.<p> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>I dug and drank water; and I will dry up with the sole of my footstep all the rivers of Egypt,<p> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Didst thou not hear to remoteness I did it? from days of old and I formed it? now did I bring it and thou shalt be to lay waste fortified cities into straits.<p> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And their inhabitants short of hand; they were dismayed and ashamed; they were the greet herb of the field and the verdure, and the tender grass of the enclosure of the roofs, and a blasting before it rose up.<p> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And thy dwelling, and thy going out, and thy coming in, I knew; and thine anger against me.<p> <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Because thine anger against me and thine arrogance came up into mine ear, and I put my hook in thy nose and my curb in thy lips, and I turned thee back in the way which thou camest in it.<p> <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And this the sign to thee: To eat this year the self-sown; and in the second year, that growing of itself: and in the third year, sow and reap, and plant vineyards and eat the fruits. <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And the escaping of the house of Judah being left shall add a root downward and make fruit upward: <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>For from Jerusalem shall come forth a remnant, and the escaping from mount Zion: the zeal of Jehovah of armies shall do this.<p> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>For this, thus said Jehovah concerning the king of Assur, Thou shalt not come into this city, and thou shalt not shoot an arrow there, and thou shalt not go before it with a shield, and thou shalt not cast a mound against it. <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>In the way which he came in it he shall turn back, and to this city he shall not come in, says Jehovah. <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And I covered over this city to Save it for my sake, and for the sake of David my servant.<p> <A name="37"></a><p class="hdg">Jerusalem Delivered from the Assyrians<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../2_kings/19.htm#35">2 Kings 19:35–37</a>; <a href ="../2_chronicles/32.htm#20">2 Chronicles 32:20–23</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>And the messenger of Jehovah will go forth, and strike in the camp of Assur a hundred and eighty-five thousand: and they will rise early in the morning, and behold, all of them dead corpses. <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And Senherib king of Assur will remove and go and turn back and dwell in Nineveh. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/37-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And it will be he worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, and Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him with the sword; and they escaped to the land of Ararat; and Esar-Haddon his son will reign in his stead.<p><br /></div></div><div id="botbox"><div class="padbot"><div align="center">The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments; Translated Literally From The Original Tongues by Julia E.
