And yet when the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith in the land?<Fr><p> <A name="10"></a><p class="hdg">The Pharisee and the Tax Collector<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And He spake also this parable to some that trusted in themselves as being righteous, and despised others. <A name="11"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>Two men went up to the temple to pray; the one a pharisee and the other a publican.<Fr> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><FR>The pharisee standing by himself prayed thus, O God, I thank thee that I am not as other men <Fr><i>are,</i><FR> rapacious, unjust, adulterous, or even as this publican.<Fr> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span><FR>I fast twice a week, <Fr><i>and</i><FR> I give tithes of all that I possess.<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span><FR>But the publican standing at a distance did not presume so much as to lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, O God, be merciful to me a sinner.<Fr> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span><FR>I tell you, this <Fr><i>man</i><FR> went down to his house justified <Fr><i>rather</i><FR> than the other: for whoever exalteth himself shall be abased, but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.<Fr><p> <A name="16"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Blesses the Children<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/19.htm#13">Matthew 19:13&#8211;15</a>; <a href ="../mark/10.htm#13">Mark 10:13&#8211;16</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And they brought to Him infants also, that He might touch them: and <i>his</i> disciples seeing <i>it</i> rebuked them. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But Jesus called them to <i>Him</i> and said, <FR>Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span><FR>Verily I tell you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall by no means enter into it.<Fr><p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">The Rich Young Ruler<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/19.htm#16">Matthew 19:16&#8211;30</a>; <a href ="../mark/10.htm#17">Mark 10:17&#8211;31</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, Good master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And Jesus said unto him, <FR>Why callest thou me good? <Fr><i>there is</i><FR> none good but one, <Fr><i>that is</i><FR> God.<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><FR>Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And he said, all these have I kept from my youth. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But when Jesus heard these <i>things</i> He said unto him, <FR>Thou yet wantest one <Fr><i>thing,</i><FR> Sell all that thou hast, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.<Fr> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But when he heard this, he was very sorrowful; for he was very rich. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, He said, <FR>How difficultly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God?<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span><FR>For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.<Fr> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And they that heard <i>it</i> said, Who then can be saved? <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But He answered, <i>Things</i><FR> impossible with men are possible with God.<Fr><p> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then said Peter, Behold, we have quitted all, and followed Thee. <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And He said unto them, <FR>Verily I tell you, there is no one that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,<Fr> <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span><FR>who shall not receive manifold more <Fr><i>even</i><FR> in this life, and in the world to come life everlasting.<Fr><p> <A name="32"></a><p class="hdg">The Third Prediction of the Passion<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/20.htm#17">Matthew 20:17&#8211;19</a>; <a href ="../mark/10.htm#32">Mark 10:32&#8211;34</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And He took the twelve with <i>Him</i> and said to them, <FR>Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all <Fr><i>things</i><FR> written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span><FR>For He shall be delivered to the Gentiles, and insulted, and abused, and spit upon, and they will scourge <Fr><i>Him,</i><FR> and put Him to death:<Fr> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span><FR>and the third day He shall rise again.<Fr> <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>But they understood none of these <i>things;</i> and this matter was hid from them, so that they knew not the things <i>which were</i> spoken.<p> <A name="36"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/20.htm#29">Matthew 20:29&#8211;34</a>;
