I adjure Thee by God, that Thou torment me not!" <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For He said to him, <FR>"Come forth, unclean spirit, out of the man!"<Fr> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And He asked him, <FR>"What is your name?"<Fr> And he says to Him, "My name is Legion, because we are many." <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And he was beseeching Him much, that He would not send them away out of the country. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Now there was there by the mountain a great herd of swine feeding <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And they besought Him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them." <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And He permitted them. And, coming out, the unclean spirits entered into the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep into the sea, about two thousand, and were drowned in the sea.<p> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And those feeding the swine fled, and reported it in the city and in the country. And they came to see what it was that had come to pass. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And they come to Jesus, and behold the demoniac sitting, clothed, and having his right mind?the one who had had the legion, and they were afraid. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And those who saw it declared to them how it befell the demoniac, and concerning the swine. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And they began to beseech Him to depart from their borders. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And, as He was entering into the boat, he that had been a demoniac was beseeching Him, that he might be with Him. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And He did not permit him, but saith to him, <FR>"Go to your house, to your own people, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for you, and <i>how</i> He had mercy on you."<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And he went away, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus did for him; and all were wondering.<p> <A name="22"></a><p class="hdg">The Healing Touch of Jesus<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/9.htm#18">Matthew 9:18–26</a>; <a href ="../luke/8.htm#40">Luke 8:40–56</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And, Jesus having crossed over in the boat again to the other side, a large multitude was gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And there comes one of the synagogue-rulers, Jairus by name; and, seeing Him, he falls at His feet, <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>and beseeches Him much, saying, "My little daughter is extremely ill; <i>I pray</i> that, coming, Thou wilt lay Thy hands upon her, that she may be healed and live." <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And He went away with him; and a great multitude was following Him, and they were thronging Him.<p> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And a woman, having a flow of blood twelve years, <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>and having suffered many things under many physicians, and having spent all that she had, and having been profited nothing, but rather coming into the worse <i>state</i>, <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>having heard the things concerning Jesus, coming in the crowd behind, touched His garment. <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>For she said, "If I touch even His garments, I shall be healed." <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was cured of the plague. <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And straight-way Jesus, perceiving in Himself that power had gone forth from Him, turning about in the crowd, said, <FR>"Who touched Me?"<Fr> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And His disciples said to Him, "Thou seest the multitude thronging Thee, and sayest Thou, <FR>'Who touched Me?'"<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And He was looking around to see her who did this. <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came, and fell down before Him, and told Him all the truth. <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And He said to her, <FR>"Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, and be well of your ailment."<Fr><p> <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>While He was yet speaking, they come from the synagogue-ruler's <i>house</i>, saying, "Your daughter died; why do you trouble the Teacher any further?" <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>But Jesus, disregarding the word spoken, saith to the synagogue-ruler, <FR>"Fear not, only believe."<Fr> <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And He permitted no one to follow with Him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And they come to the house of the synagogue-ruler; and He beholds a tumult, and <i>people</i> weeping and wailing greatly. <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And, having entered, He saith to them, <FR>"Why do ye make a tumult, and weep? the child did not die, but she is sleeping."<Fr> <A name="41"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And they were deriding Him. But He, having put them all out, taketh with <i>Him</i> the father of the child, and the mother, and those with Him, and goeth in where the child was. <A name="42"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And, having taken hold of the child's hand, He saith to her, <FR>"Talitha cumi;"<Fr> which is, being interpreted, <FR>"Damsel, (I say to you), arise."<Fr> <A name="43"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>And straight-way the damsel arose, and walked; for she was twelve years old.
