While Jesus was bent down, he was writing on the ground. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>When they were through questioning him, he straightened himself up and said to them, He who is among you without sin, let him first throw a stone at her. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And again as he bent down, he wrote on the ground. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And when they heard it, they left one by one, beginning with the elders; and the man woman was left alone in the midst. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>When Jesus straightened himself up, he said to the woman, Where are they? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>did no henceforth, do not sin again.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>Again Jesus spoke to them and said, I am the light of the world; he who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but he shall find for himself the light of life. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>The Pharisees said to him, You testify concerning yourself; your testimony is not true. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to them, Even though I testify concerning myself, my testimony is true, because I know whence I came and whither I go; but you do not know whence I came, or whither I go. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>You judge according to the flesh; but I judge no man. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>And if I should judge, my judgment is true; because I am not doing it alone, but I and my Father who sent me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>And it is written in your own law, that the testimony of two men is true. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>I testify concerning myself, and my Father who sent me testifies concerning me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>They said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus answered and said to them, You know neither me, nor my Father; if you knew me, you would know my Father also. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>These words he spoke in the treasury, while he taught in the temple; and no man arrested him, for his time had not yet come.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>Jesus again said to them, I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins; and where I am going you cannot come. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>The Jews said, Why, will he kill himself? for he says, Where I am going, you cannot come. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>And he said to them, You are from be- low, and I am from above; you are of this world, but I am not of this world. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>I told you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>The Jews said, Who are you? Jesus said to them, Even though I should begin to speak to you, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>I have many things to say and to judge concerning you; but he who sent me is true; and I speak in the world only those things which I have heard from him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>They did not understand that he spoke to them concerning the Father. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>Again Jesus said to them, When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will understand that I am he, and I do nothing of my own accord; but as my Father has taught me, so I speak just like him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>And he who sent me is with me; and my Father has never left me alone, because I always do what pleases him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>While he was speaking these words, a great many believed in him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>Then Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, If you abide by my word, you are truly my disciples. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>And you will know the truth, and that very truth will make you free. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>They said to him, We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been enslaved to any man; how do you say, You will be free sons?<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever commits sin is a servant of sin. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>And a servant does not remain in the house forever, but the son remains forever. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-36.htm#aramaic"><b>36</b></a></span>If therefore, the Son shall make you free, you shall truly become free. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-37.htm#aramaic"><b>37</b></a></span>I know you are the seed of Abraham; but still you want to kill me, because you have no room in you for my word. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-38.htm#aramaic"><b>38</b></a></span>I speak what I have seen with my Father; and you do what you have seen with your father.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-39.htm#aramaic"><b>39</b></a></span>They answered and said to him, Our own father is Abraham. Jesus said to them, If you were the sons of Abraham, you would be doing the works of Abraham. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-40.htm#aramaic"><b>40</b></a></span>But behold, now you want to kill me, even a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-41.htm#aramaic"><b>41</b></a></span>But you do the works of your father. They said to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-42.htm#aramaic"><b>42</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came from God; I did not come of my own accord, but he sent me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-43.htm#aramaic"><b>43</b></a></span>Why therefore do you not understand my word? Because you cannot obey my word? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-44.htm#aramaic"><b>44</b></a></span>You are from the father of accusation, and you want to do the lusts of your father, he who is a murderer of men from the very beginning and who never stands by the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks he speaks his own lie, because he is a liar, and the father of it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-45.htm#aramaic"><b>45</b></a></span>But because I speak the truth, you do not believe me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-46.htm#aramaic"><b>46</b></a></span>Which one of you can rebuke me because of sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe me? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-47.htm#aramaic"><b>47</b></a></span>He who is of God, hears God&#8217;s words; for this reason you do not hear, because you are not of God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-48.htm#aramaic"><b>48</b></a></span>The Jews answered and said to him, Did we not say well, that you are a Samaritan, and that you are crazy? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-49.htm#aramaic"><b>49</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, I am not crazy; but I honor my Father, and you curse me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-50.htm#aramaic"><b>50</b></a></span>I do not seek my glory; there is one who seeks and judges. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-51.htm#aramaic"><b>51</b></a></span>Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever obeys my word, shall never see death. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-52.htm#aramaic"><b>52</b></a></span>The Jews said to him, Now we are sure that you are insane. Abraham and the prophets have died; and yet you say, Whoever obeys my word, shall never taste death. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-53.htm#aramaic"><b>53</b></a></span>Why, are you greater than our father Abraham who died, and the prophets who died? Whom do you make yourself? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-54.htm#aramaic"><b>54</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing; but it is my Father who honors me, the one of whom you say, He is our God. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-55.htm#aramaic"><b>55</b></a></span>Yet you have not known him, but I do know him; and if I should say, I do not know him, I would be a liar like yourselves; but I do know him, and I obey his word. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-56.htm#aramaic"><b>56</b></a></span>Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; and he saw it and was glad. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-57.htm#aramaic"><b>57</b></a></span>The Jews said to him, You are not yet fifty years old, and yet have you seen Abraham? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-58.htm#aramaic"><b>58</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Before Abraham was born, I was. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-59.htm#aramaic"><b>59</b></a></span>So they took up stones, to stone him; and Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, and he passed through the midst of them, and went away.<p><br /></div></div><div id="botbox"><div class="padbot"><div align="center">Holy Bible From The Ancient Eastern Texts: Aramaic Of The Peshitta by George M.
