In general, it is considered that insurance cycles are particularly pronounced in periods of financial crisis, but are also affected by the growing number of catastrophic losses. They cause the change of insurance cycle and premium growth and intensification and narrowing of the coverage conditions, so these variables move in the same direction and these phenomena point to a new cycle. The main goal of this paper is to determine the existence of insurance cycle in the Republic of Croatia and investigate whether catastrophic losses have an influence on insurance cycles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catastrophic%20loss" title="catastrophic loss">catastrophic loss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=insurance%20cycle" title=" insurance cycle"> insurance cycle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=premium" title=" premium"> premium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Republic%20of%20Croatia" title=" Republic of Croatia"> Republic of Croatia</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7784/the-effect-of-catastrophic-losses-on-insurance-cycle-case-of-croatia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7784.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">353</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">318</span> Model-Independent Price Bounds for the Swiss Re Mortality Bond 2003</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raj%20Kumari%20Bahl">Raj Kumari Bahl</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sotirios%20Sabanis"> Sotirios Sabanis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we are concerned with the valuation of the first Catastrophic Mortality Bond that was launched in the market namely the Swiss Re Mortality Bond 2003. This bond encapsulates the behavior of a well-defined mortality index to generate payoffs for the bondholders. Pricing this bond is a challenging task. We adapt the payoff of the terminal principal of the bond in terms of the payoff of an Asian put option and present an approach to derive model-independent bounds exploiting comonotonic theory. We invoke Jensen’s inequality for the computation of lower bounds and employ Lagrange optimization technique to achieve the upper bound. The success of these bounds is based on the availability of compatible European mortality options in the market. We carry out Monte Carlo simulations to estimate the bond price and illustrate the strength of these bounds across a variety of models. The fact that our bounds are model-independent is a crucial breakthrough in the pricing of catastrophic mortality bonds. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mortality%20bond" title="mortality bond">mortality bond</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Swiss%20Re%20Bond" title=" Swiss Re Bond"> Swiss Re Bond</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mortality%20index" title=" mortality index"> mortality index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comonotonicity" title=" comonotonicity"> comonotonicity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54923/model-independent-price-bounds-for-the-swiss-re-mortality-bond-2003" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54923.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">250</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">317</span> A Varicella Outbreak in a Highly Vaccinated School Population in Voluntary 2-Dose Era in Beijing, China</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chengbin%20Wang">Chengbin Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Li%20Lu"> Li Lu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luodan%20Suo"> Luodan Suo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qinghai%20Wang"> Qinghai Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fan%20Yang"> Fan Yang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xu%20Wang"> Xu Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mona%20Marin"> Mona Marin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Two-dose varicella vaccination has been recommended in Beijing since November 2012. We investigated a varicella outbreak in a highly vaccinated elementary school population to examine transmission patterns and risk factors for vaccine failure. Methods: A varicella case was defined as an acute generalized maculopapulovesicular rash without other apparent cause in a student attending the school from March 28 to May 17, 2015. Breakthrough varicella was defined as varicella >42 days after last vaccine dose. Vaccination information was collected from immunization records. Information on prior disease and clinical presentation was collected via survey of students’ parents. Results: Of the 1056 school students, 1028 (97.3%) reported no varicella history, of whom 364 (35.4%) had received 1-dose and 650 (63.2%) had received 2-dose varicella vaccine, for 98.6% school-wide vaccination coverage with ≥ 1 dose before the outbreak. A total of 20 cases were identified for an overall attack rate of 1.9%. The index case was in a 2-dose vaccinated student who was not isolated. The majority of cases were breakthrough (19/20, 95%) with attack rates of 7.1% (1/14), 1.6% (6/364) and 2.0% (13/650) among unvaccinated, 1-dose, and 2-dose students, respectively. Most cases had < 50 lesions (18/20, 90%). No difference was found between 1-dose and 2-dose breakthrough cases in disease severity or sociodemographic factors. Conclusion: Moderate 2-dose varicella vaccine coverage was insufficient to prevent a varicella outbreak. Two-dose breakthrough varicella is still contagious. High 2-dose varicella vaccine coverage and timely isolation of ill persons might be needed for varicella outbreak control in the 2-dose era. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=varicella" title="varicella">varicella</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=outbreak" title=" outbreak"> outbreak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=breakthrough%20varicella" title=" breakthrough varicella"> breakthrough varicella</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vaccination" title=" vaccination"> vaccination</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57932/a-varicella-outbreak-in-a-highly-vaccinated-school-population-in-voluntary-2-dose-era-in-beijing-china" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57932.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">335</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">316</span> Flap Structure Geometry in Breakthrough Structure: A Case Study from the Southern Tunisian Atlas Example, Orbata Anticline</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soulef%20Amamria">Soulef Amamria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Sadok%20Bensalem"> Mohamed Sadok Bensalem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Ghanmi"> Mohamed Ghanmi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The structural and sedimentological study of fault-related- folds in the Southern Tunisian Atlas is distinguished by a special geometry of the gravitational structures. This distinct geometry is observable in the example of a flap structure in Jebel Ben Zannouch with the formation of a stuck syncline. This geometry can be explained by the mechanism of major thrusting in Orbata anticline in the occidental extremity of Gafsa chains, with asymmetrical flank dips and hinge migration kinematics. These kinematics was originally controlled by the Breakthrough structure; the study of this special geometry of gravity flap structure depends on the sedimentation domain, shortening ratios, and erosion speed. This study constitutes one of the complete examples of kinematic model validation on a field scale. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fault-related-folds" title="fault-related-folds">fault-related-folds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=southern%20Tunisian%20Atlas" title=" southern Tunisian Atlas"> southern Tunisian Atlas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flap%20structure" title=" flap structure"> flap structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=breakthrough" title=" breakthrough"> breakthrough</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161486/flap-structure-geometry-in-breakthrough-structure-a-case-study-from-the-southern-tunisian-atlas-example-orbata-anticline" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161486.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">101</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">315</span> Dual-Network Memory Model for Temporal Sequences</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Motonobu%20Hattori">Motonobu Hattori</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In neural networks, when new patters are learned by a network, they radically interfere with previously stored patterns. This drawback is called catastrophic forgetting. We have already proposed a biologically inspired dual-network memory model which can much reduce this forgetting for static patterns. In this model, information is first stored in the hippocampal network, and thereafter, it is transferred to the neocortical network using pseudo patterns. Because, temporal sequence learning is more important than static pattern learning in the real world, in this study, we improve our conventional dual-network memory model so that it can deal with temporal sequences without catastrophic forgetting. The computer simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed dual-network memory model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catastrophic%20forgetting" title="catastrophic forgetting">catastrophic forgetting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual-network" title=" dual-network"> dual-network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temporal%20sequences" title=" temporal sequences"> temporal sequences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hippocampal" title=" hippocampal "> hippocampal </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2908/dual-network-memory-model-for-temporal-sequences" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2908.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">269</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">314</span> A Dynamic Column Adsorption Study of Methyl Blue on Synthesis onto Synthesized Chitosan Immobilized Sawdust Cellulose Nanocrystals</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Opeyemi%20A.%20Oyewo">Opeyemi A. The product was characterized using FT-IR, XRD, and SEM analysis. Microstructural examination revealed that the pellets are porous and spherical. XRD examination revealed phases that can be attributed to the presence of chitosan in PCCN. The effects of starting concentration, bed depth, and flow rate on synthetic water were explored. To identify MB breakthrough behaviour, performance indices such as bed volume, adsorbent exhaustion rate, and service time were investigated. Furthermore, the breakthrough data were incorporated into both the Thomas and Bohart-Adams models. The Thomas model was suitable for describing MB breakthrough curves. However, more research with diverse water matrices may be required to assess the resilience of PCCN. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adsorption" title="adsorption">adsorption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic" title=" dynamic"> dynamic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=methyl%20blue" title=" methyl blue"> methyl blue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pelletization" title=" pelletization"> pelletization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190100/a-dynamic-column-adsorption-study-of-methyl-blue-on-synthesis-onto-synthesized-chitosan-immobilized-sawdust-cellulose-nanocrystals" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190100.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">30</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">313</span> Directing the Forensic Investigation of a Catastrophic Structure Collapse: The Jacksonville Parking Garage Collapse</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=William%20C.%20Bracken">William C. Sodium chloride has been used as a conservative tracer in the experiment. Advective dispersive transport equations, including equilibrium sorption and first-order degradation coefficients, are used for solute transport through mobile-immobile porous media. In order to do the governing equation for solute transport, there are explicit and implicit schemes for our condition; we use an implicit scheme to numerically model the solute concentration. Results of experimental breakthrough curves indicate that the behavior of observed breakthrough curves is approximately similar in both cases of layered and mixed soil, while earlier arrival of solute concentration is obtained in the case of mixed soil. It means that the types of heterogeneity of the soil media affect the behavior of solute concentration. Finally, it is also shown that the asymptotic dispersion model simulates the experimental data better than the constant and linear distance-dependent dispersion models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=numerical%20method" title="numerical method">numerical method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distance%20dependant%20dispersion" title=" distance dependant dispersion"> distance dependant dispersion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reactive%20transport" title=" reactive transport"> reactive transport</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=experiment" title=" experiment"> experiment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179547/modeling-solute-transport-through-porous-media-with-scale-dependent-dispersion" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179547.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">63</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">310</span> Time Parameter Based for the Detection of Catastrophic Faults in Analog Circuits </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arabi%20Abderrazak">Arabi Abderrazak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bourouba%20Nacerdine"> Bourouba Nacerdine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayad%20Mouloud"> Ayad Mouloud</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Belaout%20Abdeslam"> Belaout Abdeslam</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, a new test technique of analog circuits using time mode simulation is proposed for the single catastrophic faults detection in analog circuits. This test process is performed to overcome the problem of catastrophic faults being escaped in a DC mode test applied to the inverter amplifier in previous research works. The circuit under test is a second-order low pass filter constructed around this type of amplifier but performing a function that differs from that of the previous test. The test approach performed in this work is based on two key- elements where the first one concerns the unique square pulse signal selected as an input vector test signal to stimulate the fault effect at the circuit output response. The second element is the filter response conversion to a square pulses sequence obtained from an analog comparator. This signal conversion is achieved through a fixed reference threshold voltage of this comparison circuit. The measurement of the three first response signal pulses durations is regarded as fault effect detection parameter on one hand, and as a fault signature helping to hence fully establish an analog circuit fault diagnosis on another hand. The results obtained so far are very promising since the approach has lifted up the fault coverage ratio in both modes to over 90% and has revealed the harmful side of faults that has been masked in a DC mode test. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analog%20circuits" title="analog circuits">analog circuits</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analog%20faults%20diagnosis" title=" analog faults diagnosis"> analog faults diagnosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catastrophic%20faults" title=" catastrophic faults"> catastrophic faults</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fault%20detection" title=" fault detection"> fault detection</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38309/time-parameter-based-for-the-detection-of-catastrophic-faults-in-analog-circuits" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38309.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">441</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">309</span> Catastrophic Spending on Health: A Determinant of Access to Health Care by Migrant Slum Population</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saira%20Mehnaz">Saira Mehnaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Jafar%20Abedi"> Ali Jafar Abedi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shazia%20Farooq%20Fazli"> Shazia Farooq Fazli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sakeena%20Mushfiq"> Sakeena Mushfiq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zulfia%20Khan"> Zulfia Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Athar%20Ansari"> M. The people are already suffering from poverty and that clubbed with out of pocket expenditure leads them to a very catastrophic situation, reducing the overall access to healthcare. Objectives: This study was designed to determine the usual source of medical care opted, the illness pattern, the expenditure incurred on illness and its source of procurement by the study population. It also intended to assess this expenditure as a determinant of access to health care. Methodology: Cities like Aligarh, which are classified as B grade cities in India are thought to be ripe sites for getting livelihood and hence are almost half filled with migrants living in urban slums. A cross sectional study was done to study the newer slum pockets. 3409 households with a population of 16,978 were studied with the help of pretested questionnaire; SPSS 20 was used for statistical analysis. Results and Conclusions: In our study, we found that almost all the households suffered from catastrophic health expenditure. The study population, which was already vulnerable owing to their low socio-economic and migrant status was further being forced with into poverty and indebtedness on account of expenditure on illness. This lead to a significant decrease in access to health. National health financing systems should be designed to protect households from financial catastrophe, by reducing out-of-pocket spending. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=access%20to%20healthcare" title="access to healthcare">access to healthcare</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catastrophic%20health%20expenditure" title=" catastrophic health expenditure"> catastrophic health expenditure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=new%20urban%20slums" title=" new urban slums"> new urban slums</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=out%20of%20pocket%20expenditure" title=" out of pocket expenditure"> out of pocket expenditure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95164/catastrophic-spending-on-health-a-determinant-of-access-to-health-care-by-migrant-slum-population" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95164.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">207</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">308</span> Experience of Inpatient Life in Korean Complex Regional Pain Syndrome: A Phenomenological Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Se-Hwa%20Park">Se-Hwa Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=En-Kyung%20Han"> En-Kyung Han</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jae-Young%20Lim"> Jae-Young Lim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hye-Jung%20Ahn"> Hye-Jung Ahn </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: The objective of this study is to provide basic data for understanding the substance of inpatient life with CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) and developing efficient and effective nursing intervention. Methods: From September 2018 to November, we have interviewed 10 CRPS patients about inpatient experiences. To understand the implication of inpatient life experiences with CRPS and intrinsic structure, we have used the question: 'How about the inpatient experiences with CRPS'. For data analysis, the method suggested by Colaizzi was applied as a phenomenological method. Results: According to the analysis, the study participants' inpatient life process was structured in six categories: (a) breakthrough pain experience (b) the limitation of pain treatment, (c) worsen factors of pain during inpatient period, (d) treat method for pain, (e) positive experience for inpatient period, (f) requirements for medical team, family and people in hospital room. Conclusion: Inpatient with CRPS have experienced the breakthrough pain. They had expected immediate treatment for breakthrough pain, but they experienced severe pain because immediate treatment was not implemented. Pain-worsening factors which patients with CRPS are as follows: personal factors from negative emotions such as insomnia, stress, sensitive character, pain part touch or vibration stimulus on the bed, physical factors from high threshold or rapid speed during fast transfer, conflict with other people, climate factors such as humidity or low temperature, noise, smell, lack of space because of many visitors. Patients actively manage the pain committing into another tasks or diversion. And also, patients passively manage the pain, just suppress, give-up. They think positively about rehabilitation treatment. And they require the understanding and sympathy for other people, and emotional support, immediate intervention for medical team. Based on the results of this study, we suppose the guideline of systematic breakthrough pain management for the relaxation of sudden pain, using notice of informing caution for touch or vibration. And we need to develop non-medicine pain management nursing intervention. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=breakthrough%20pain" title="breakthrough pain">breakthrough pain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CRPS" title=" CRPS"> CRPS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=complex%20regional%20pain%20syndrome" title=" complex regional pain syndrome"> complex regional pain syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inpatient%20life%20experiences" title=" inpatient life experiences"> inpatient life experiences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phenomenological%20method" title=" phenomenological method"> phenomenological method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119853/experience-of-inpatient-life-in-korean-complex-regional-pain-syndrome-a-phenomenological-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119853.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">129</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">307</span> A Review on Design and Analysis of Structure Against Blast Forces</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akshay%20Satishrao%20Kawtikwar">Akshay Satishrao Kawtikwar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The effect of blast masses on structures is an essential aspect that need to be considered. A modeling based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was employed to fit the experimental breakthrough data. In addition, a simplified semi empirical model, Thomas, was employed for this purpose. It was found that ANN well described the experimental data (R2>0.99) while the Thomas prediction were a bit less successful with R2>0.97. Up till nowadays, there is no distinct picture of the historical and geographical events of the last 10 thousand years on the territory from Altai up to the Alps. The present article is an attempt to clarify and, moreover, link the presented version to the historical and climatic events of this period. The paper is a development of the basic idea stated in "Hypothesis on the Black Sea origin". The succession of events in dynamics is offered in this article. In the article, it is shown that fluctuation of the level of the World Ocean is a mirror of the basic events connected with the climate on the Earth on the one hand and hydraulic processes on the other hand. In the present article, it is come out with the assumption that at the formation of passage, there were some cycles of change in a level of the World ocean. The phase of the beginning of climate warming is characterized by an increase in the level of inland water bodies on the way of meltwater runoff and an increase in the World ocean level. The end of the warming phase is characterized by the continuation of a rise in the level of the World ocean and the drying up of inland water bodies deprived of meltwater replenishment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bosporus" title="Bosporus">Bosporus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan-Pitman%20hypothesis" title=" Ryan-Pitman hypothesis"> Ryan-Pitman hypothesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluctuations%20of%20the%20World%20Ocean%20level" title=" fluctuations of the World Ocean level"> fluctuations of the World Ocean level</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=the%20Paratethys%20Sea" title=" the Paratethys Sea"> the Paratethys Sea</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catastrophic%20breakthrough" title=" catastrophic breakthrough"> catastrophic breakthrough</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152551/bosporus-evolution-its-role-in-the-black-sea-forming" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152551.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">110</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">304</span> The Impact of HKUST-1 Metal-Organic Framework Pretreatment on Dynamic Acetaldehyde Adsorption</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Fran%C3%A7ois">M. Among these VOCs, acetaldehyde is frequently monitored in dwellings ‘air, especially due to smoking and spontaneous emissions from the new wall and soil coverings. It is responsible for respiratory complaints and is classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Adsorption processes are commonly used to remove VOCs from the air. Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are a promising type of material for high adsorption performance. These hybrid porous materials composed of metal inorganic clusters and organic ligands are interesting thanks to their high porosity and surface area. The HKUST-1 (also referred to as MOF-199) is a copper-based MOF with the formula [Cu₃(BTC)₂(H₂O)₃]n (BTC = benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate) and exhibits unsaturated metal sites that can be attractive sites for adsorption. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of HKUST-1 pretreatment on acetaldehyde adsorption. Thus, dynamic adsorption experiments were conducted in 1 cm diameter glass column packed with 2 cm MOF bed height. MOF were sieved to 630 µm - 1 mm. The feed gas (Co = 460 ppmv ± 5 ppmv) was obtained by diluting a 1000 ppmv acetaldehyde gas cylinder in air. The gas flow rate was set to 0.7 L/min (to guarantee a suitable linear velocity). Acetaldehyde concentration was monitored online by gas chromatography coupled with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID). Breakthrough curves must allow to understand the interactions between the MOF and the pollutant as well as the impact of the HKUST-1 humidity in the adsorption process. Consequently, different MOF water content conditions were tested, from a dry material with 7 % water content (dark blue color) to water saturated state with approximately 35 % water content (turquoise color). The rough material – without any pretreatment – containing 30 % water serves as a reference. First, conclusions can be drawn from the comparison of the evolution of the ratio of the column outlet concentration (C) on the inlet concentration (Co) as a function of time for different HKUST-1 pretreatments. The shape of the breakthrough curves is significantly different. The saturation of the rough material is slower (20 h to reach saturation) than that of the dried material (2 h). However, the breakthrough time defined for C/Co = 10 % appears earlier in the case of the rough material (0.75 h) compared to the dried HKUST-1 (1.4 h). Another notable difference is the shape of the curve before the breakthrough at 10 %. An abrupt increase of the outlet concentration is observed for the material with the lower humidity in comparison to a smooth increase for the rough material. Thus, the water content plays a significant role on the breakthrough kinetics. This study aims to understand what can explain the shape of the breakthrough curves associated to the pretreatments of HKUST-1 and which mechanisms take place in the adsorption process between the MOF, the pollutant, and the water. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acetaldehyde" title="acetaldehyde">acetaldehyde</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20adsorption" title=" dynamic adsorption"> dynamic adsorption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HKUST-1" title=" HKUST-1"> HKUST-1</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pretreatment%20influence" title=" pretreatment influence"> pretreatment influence</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138630/the-impact-of-hkust-1-metal-organic-framework-pretreatment-on-dynamic-acetaldehyde-adsorption" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138630.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">237</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">303</span> Computational Prediction of the Effect of S477N Mutation on the RBD Binding Affinity and Structural Characteristic, A Molecular Dynamics Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Hossein%20Modarressi">Mohammad Hossein Modarressi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mozhgan%20Mondeali"> Mozhgan Mondeali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khabat%20Barkhordari"> Khabat Barkhordari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Etemadi"> Ali Etemadi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has led to significant concerns worldwide due to its catastrophic effects on public health. The SARS-CoV-2 infection is initiated with the binding of the receptor-binding domain (RBD) in its spike protein to the ACE2 receptor in the host cell membrane. Due to the error-prone entity of the viral RNA-dependent polymerase complex, the virus genome, including the coding region for the RBD, acquires new mutations, leading to the appearance of multiple variants. These variants can potentially impact transmission, virulence, antigenicity and evasive immune properties. S477N mutation located in the RBD has been observed in the SARS-CoV-2 omicron (B.1.1. 529) variant. In this study, we investigated the consequences of S477N mutation at the molecular level using computational approaches such as molecular dynamics simulation, protein-protein interaction analysis, immunoinformatics and free energy computation. We showed that displacement of Ser with Asn increases the stability of the spike protein and its affinity to ACE2 and thus increases the transmission potential of the virus. This mutation changes the folding and secondary structure of the spike protein. Also, it reduces antibody neutralization, raising concern about re-infection, vaccine breakthrough and therapeutic values. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S477N" title="S477N">S477N</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COVID-19" title=" COVID-19"> COVID-19</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=molecular%20dynamic" title=" molecular dynamic"> molecular dynamic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SARS-COV2%20mutations" title=" SARS-COV2 mutations"> SARS-COV2 mutations</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145533/computational-prediction-of-the-effect-of-s477n-mutation-on-the-rbd-binding-affinity-and-structural-characteristic-a-molecular-dynamics-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145533.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">176</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">302</span> Geochemistry Identification of Volcanic Rocks Product of Krakatau Volcano Eruption for Katastropis Mitigation Planning</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Agil%20Gemilang%20Ramadhan">Agil Gemilang Ramadhan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Novian%20Triandanu"> Novian Triandanu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Since 1929, the first appearance in sea level, Anak Krakatau volcano growth relatively quickly. During the 80 years up to 2010 has reached the height of 320 meter above sea level. The possibility of catastrophic explosive eruption could happen again if the chemical composition of rocks from the eruption changed from alkaline magma into acid magma. Until now Anak Krakatau volcanic activity is still quite active as evidenced by the frequency of eruptions that produced ash sized pyroclastic deposits - bomb. Purpose of this study was to identify changes in the percentage of rock geochemistry any results eruption of Anak Krakatau volcano to see consistency change the percentage content of silica in the magma that affect the type of volcanic eruptions. Results from this study will be produced in the form of a diagram the data changes the chemical composition of rocks of Anak Krakatau volcano. Changes in the composition of any silica eruption are illustrated in a graph. If the increase in the percentage of silica is happening consistently and it is assumed to increase in the time scale of a few percent, then to achieve silica content of 68 % (acid composition) that will produce an explosive eruption will know the approximate time. This directly affected the ability of a country to maintain an efficient economy and implied great personal suffering among infected individuals and their families. This paper aims to estimate the catastrophic expenditure of households in terms of direct and indirect losses which a person has to face due to the illness of WASH diseases; the severity of the scenario is answered by finding out the impoverishment effect. We used the primary data survey for the objective outlined. Descriptive and analytical research types are used. The survey is done with the questionnaire formulated precisely, taking care of the inclusion of all the variables and probable outcomes. A total of 300 households is covered under this study. In order to pursue the objectives outlined, multistage random sampling of households is used. In this study, the cost of illness approach is followed for accessing economic impact. The study brought out the attention that a significant portion of the total consumption expenditure is going lost for the treatment of water and sanitation related diseases. The infectious and water vector-borne disease can be checked by providing sufficient required sanitation facility, and that 2.02% loss in income can be gained if the mechanisms of the pathogen is checked. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water" title="water">water</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sanitation" title=" sanitation"> sanitation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impoverishment" title=" impoverishment"> impoverishment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catastrophic%20expenditure" title=" catastrophic expenditure"> catastrophic expenditure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159343/catastrophic-burden-and-impoverishment-effect-of-wash-diseases-a-ground-analysis-of-bhadohi-district-uttar-pradesh-india" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159343.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">85</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">300</span> Clean Technology: Hype or Need to Have</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dirk%20V.%20H.%20K.%20Franco">Dirk V. Examples are: climate change, decrease of biodiversity, amount of available, clean water and the decreasing variety of living organism in the oceans. On the other hand a lot of people perceive the following trends as catastrophic: the sea level, the melting of the pole ice, the numbers of tornado’s, floods and forest fires, the national security and the potential of 192 million climate migrants in 2060. The interest for climate, health and the possible solutions is large and common. The 5th IPCC states that the last decades especially human activities (and in second order natural emissions) have caused large, mainly negative impacts on our ecological environments. Chris Stringer stated that we represent, nowadays after evolution, the only one version of the possible humanity. At this very moment we are faced with an (over) crowded planet together with global climate changes and a strong demand for energy and material resources. Let us hope that we can counter these difficulties either with better application of existing technologies or by inventing new (applications of) clean technologies together with new business models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clean%20technologies" title="clean technologies">clean technologies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catastrophic" title=" catastrophic"> catastrophic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climate" title=" climate"> climate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=possible%20solutions" title=" possible solutions"> possible solutions</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18265/clean-technology-hype-or-need-to-have" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18265.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">499</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">299</span> Removal of Heavy Metal Using Continous Mode</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Abd%20elfattah">M. The results of this study showed that it is feasible to prepare activated carbons with relatively high surface areas and pore volumes from the Egyptian rice straw by direct chemical and physical activation. The produced activated carbon from the two methods (AC1 and AC2) could be used as potential adsorbent for the removal of Fe(III) from aqueous solution contains heavy metals and polluted water. The adsorption of Fe(III) was depended on the pH of the solution. The optimal Fe(III) removal efficiency occurs at pH 5. Based on the results, the optimum contact time is 60 minutes and adsorbent dosage is 3 g/L. The adsorption breakthrough curves obtained at different bed depths indicated increase of breakthrough time with increase in bed depths. A rise in inlet Fe(III) concentration reduces the throughput volume before the packed bed gets saturated. In particular, coastal flood insurance impacts not only private citizens but also insurance and reinsurance companies, who may require it to retain solvency and better understand the risks they face from a catastrophic coastal flood event. In this context, a framework is presented here to assess the risk for coastal flooding across the UK. The area has a long history of catastrophic flood events, including the Great Flood of 1953 and the 2013 Cyclone Xaver storm, both of which led to significant loss of life and property. The current framework will leverage a technology based on a hydrodynamic model (Delft3D Flexible Mesh). This flexible mesh technology, coupled with a calibration technique, allows for better utilisation of computational resources, leading to higher resolution and more detailed results. The generation of a stochastic set of extra tropical cyclone (ETC) events supports the evaluation of the financial losses for the whole area, also accounting for correlations between different locations in different scenarios. Finally, the solution shows a detailed analysis for the Thames River, leveraging the information available on flood barriers and levees. Two realistic disaster scenarios for the Greater London area are simulated: In the first scenario, the storm surge intensity is not high enough to fail London’s flood defences, but in the second scenario, London’s flood defences fail, highlighting the potential losses from a catastrophic coastal flood event. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=storm%20surge" title="storm surge">storm surge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastic%20model" title=" stochastic model"> stochastic model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=levee%20failure" title=" levee failure"> levee failure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thames%20River" title=" Thames River"> Thames River</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57311/next-generation-uk-storm-surge-model-for-the-insurance-market-the-london-case" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57311.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">232</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">297</span> Efficient Rehearsal Free Zero Forgetting Continual Learning Using Adaptive Weight Modulation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yonatan%20Sverdlov">Yonatan Sverdlov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shimon%20Ullman"> Shimon Ullman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Artificial neural networks encounter a notable challenge known as continual learning, which involves acquiring knowledge of multiple tasks over an extended period. This challenge arises due to the tendency of previously learned weights to be adjusted to suit the objectives of new tasks, resulting in a phenomenon called catastrophic forgetting. Most approaches to this problem seek a balance between maximizing performance on the new tasks and minimizing the forgetting of previous tasks. In contrast, our approach attempts to maximize the performance of the new task, while ensuring zero forgetting. This is accomplished through the introduction of task-specific modulation parameters for each task, and only these parameters are learned for the new task, after a set of initial tasks have been learned. Through comprehensive experimental evaluations, our model demonstrates superior performance in acquiring and retaining novel tasks that pose difficulties for other multi-task models. This emphasizes the efficacy of our approach in preventing catastrophic forgetting while accommodating the acquisition of new tasks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continual%20learning" title="continual learning">continual learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=life-long%20learning" title=" life-long learning"> life-long learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20analogies" title=" neural analogies"> neural analogies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adaptive%20modulation" title=" adaptive modulation"> adaptive modulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170980/efficient-rehearsal-free-zero-forgetting-continual-learning-using-adaptive-weight-modulation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170980.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">70</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">296</span> Water-Controlled Fracturing with Fuzzy-Ball Fluid in Tight Gas Reservoirs of Deep Coal Measures in Sulige</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiangchun%20Wang">Xiangchun Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lihui%20Zheng"> Lihui Zheng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maozong%20Gan"> Maozong Gan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peng%20Zhang"> Peng Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tong%20Wu"> Tong Wu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=An%20Chang"> An Chang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The deep coal measure tight gas reservoir in Sulige is usually reformed by fracturing, because the reservoir thickness is small, the water layers can be easily communicated during fracturing, which will lead to water production of gas wells and lower production of gas wells. Therefore, it is necessary to control water during fracturing in deep coal measure tight gas reservoir. Using fuzzy-ball fluid to control water fracturing can not only increase the output but also reduce the water output. The fuzzy-ball fluid was prepared indoors to carry out evaluation experiments. The fuzzy ball fluid was mixed in equal volume with the pre-fluid and formation water to test its compatibility. The core displacement device was used to test the gas and water breaking through the matrix and fractured cores blocked by fuzzy-ball fluid. The breakthrough pressure of the plunger tests its water blocking performance. The experimental results show that there is no precipitation after the fuzzy-ball fluid is mixed with the pad fluid and the formation water, respectively. The breakthrough pressure gradients of gas and water after the fuzzy-ball fluid plugged the cracks were 0.02MPa/cm and 0.04MPa/cm, respectively, and the breakthrough pressure gradients of gas and water after the matrix was plugged were 0.03MPa/cm and 0.2MPa/cm, respectively, which meet the requirements of field operation. Two wells A and B in the Sulige Gas Field were used on site to implement water control fracturing. After the pre-fluid was injected into the two wells, 50m3 of fuzzy-ball fluid was pumped to plug the water. The construction went smoothly. After water control and fracturing, the average daily output in 161 days was increased by 13.71% and 6.99% compared with that of adjacent wells in the same layer. The adjacent wells were bubbled for 3 times and 63 times respectively, while there was no effusion in A and B construction wells. The results show that fuzzy-ball fluid is a water plugging material suitable for water control fracturing in tight gas wells, and its water control mechanism can also provide a new idea for the development of water control fracturing materials. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coal%20seam" title="coal seam">coal seam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20layer" title=" deep layer"> deep layer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fracking" title=" fracking"> fracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy-ball%20fluid" title=" fuzzy-ball fluid"> fuzzy-ball fluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reservoir%20reconstruction" title=" reservoir reconstruction"> reservoir reconstruction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137940/water-controlled-fracturing-with-fuzzy-ball-fluid-in-tight-gas-reservoirs-of-deep-coal-measures-in-sulige" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137940.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">227</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">295</span> Investigation of Arson Fire Incident in Textile Garment Building Using Fire Dynamic Simulation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohsin%20Ali%20Shaikh">Mohsin Ali Shaikh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Song%20Weiguo"> Song Weiguo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Kashan%20Surahio"> Muhammad Kashan Surahio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Usman%20Shahid"> Usman Shahid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rehmat%20Karim"> Rehmat Karim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study investigated a catastrophic arson fire incident that occurred at a textile garment building in Karachi, Pakistan. However, there is a limited experience in quantifying the sources of risk management in Egypt and in designing efficient strategies to keep away serious impacts of earthquakes. From the historical point of view and recent instrumental records, there are some seismo-active regions in Egypt, where some significant earthquakes had occurred in different places. The special tectonic features in Egypt: Aswan, Greater Cairo, Red Sea and Sinai Peninsula regions are the territories of a high seismic risk, which have to be monitored by up-to date technologies. The investigations of the seismic events and interpretations led to evaluate the seismic hazard for disaster prevention and for the safety of the dense populated regions and the vital national projects as the High Dam. In addition to the monitoring of the recent crustal movements, the most powerful technique of satellite geodesy GPS are used where geodetic networks are covering such seismo-active regions. The results from the data sets are compared and combined in order to determine the main characteristics of the deformation and hazard estimation for specified regions. The final compiled output from the seismological and geodetic analysis threw lights upon the geodynamical regime of these seismo-active regions and put Aswan and Greater Cairo under the lowest class according to horizontal crustal strains classifications. This work will serve a basis for the development of so-called catastrophic models and can be further used for catastrophic risk management. Also, this work is trying to evaluate risk of large catastrophic losses within the important regions including the High Dam, strategic buildings and archeological sites. Studies on possible scenarios of earthquakes and losses are a critical issue for decision making in insurance as a part of mitigation measures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=b-value" title="b-value">b-value</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gumbel%20distribution" title=" Gumbel distribution"> Gumbel distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seismic%20and%20GPS%20data" title=" seismic and GPS data"> seismic and GPS data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strain%20parameters" title=" strain parameters"> strain parameters</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35752/using-seismic-and-gps-data-for-hazard-estimation-in-some-active-regions-in-egypt" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35752.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">459</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">293</span> Continuous Fixed Bed Reactor Application for Decolourization of Textile Effluent by Adsorption on NaOH Treated Eggshell</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Chafi">M. In this work, the intention of the study was to explore the efficacy and feasibility for azo dye, Acid Orange 7 (AO7) adsorption onto fixed bed column of NaOH Treated eggshell (TES). The effect of various parameters like flow rate, initial dye concentration, and bed height were exploited in this study. The studies confirmed that the breakthrough curves were dependent on flow rate, initial dye concentration solution of AO7 and bed depth. The Thomas, Yoon–Nelson, and Adams and Bohart models were analysed to evaluate the column adsorption performance. The adsorption capacity, rate constant and correlation coefficient associated to each model for column adsorption was calculated and mentioned. The column experimental data were fitted well with Thomas model with coefficients of correlation R2 ≥0.93 at different conditions but the Yoon–Nelson, BDST and Bohart–Adams model (R2=0.911), predicted poor performance of fixed-bed column. The (TES) was shown to be suitable adsorbent for adsorption of AO7 using fixed-bed adsorption column. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adsorption%20models" title="adsorption models">adsorption models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acid%20orange%207" title=" acid orange 7"> acid orange 7</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bed%20depth" title=" bed depth"> bed depth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=breakthrough" title=" breakthrough"> breakthrough</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dye%20adsorption" title=" dye adsorption"> dye adsorption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fixed-bed%20column" title=" fixed-bed column"> fixed-bed column</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=treated%20eggshell" title=" treated eggshell"> treated eggshell</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43408/continuous-fixed-bed-reactor-application-for-decolourization-of-textile-effluent-by-adsorption-on-naoh-treated-eggshell" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43408.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">377</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">292</span> Tracing a Timber Breakthrough: A Qualitative Study of the Introduction of Cross-Laminated-Timber to the Student Housing Market in Norway</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marius%20Nygaard">Marius Nygaard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ona%20Flindall"> Ona Flindall</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Palisaden student housing project was completed in August 2013 and was, with its eight floors, Norway’s tallest timber building at the time of completion. It was the first time cross-laminated-timber (CLT) was utilized at this scale in Norway. The project was the result of a concerted effort by a newly formed management company to establish CLT as a sustainable and financially competitive alternative to conventional steel and concrete systems. The introduction of CLT onto the student housing market proved so successful that by 2017 more than 4000 individual student residences will have been built using the same model of development and construction. The aim of this paper is to identify the key factors that enabled this breakthrough for CLT. It is based on an in-depth study of a series of housing projects and the role of the management company who both instigated and enabled this shift of CLT from the margin to the mainstream. Specifically, it will look at how a new building system was integrated into a marketing strategy that identified a market potential within the existing structure of the construction industry and within the economic restrictions inherent to student housing in Norway. It will show how a key player established a project model that changed both the patterns of cooperation and the information basis for decisions. Based on qualitative semi-structured interviews with managers, contractors and the interdisciplinary teams of consultants (architects, structural engineers, acoustical experts etc.) this paper will trace the introduction, expansion and evolution of CLT-based building systems in the student housing market. It will show how the project management firm’s position in the value chain enabled them to function both as a liaison between contractor and client, and between contractor and producer. A position that allowed them to improve the flow of information. This ensured that CLT was handled on equal terms to other structural solutions in the project specifications, enabling realistic pricing and risk evaluation. Secondly, this paper will describe and discuss how the project management firm established and interacted with a growing network of contractors, architects and engineers to pool expertise and broaden the knowledge base across Norway’s regional markets. Finally, it will examine the role of the client, the building typology, and the industrial and technological factors in achieving this breakthrough for CLT in the construction industry. This paper gives an in-depth view of the progression of a single case rather than a broad description of the state of the art of large-scale timber building in Norway. However, this type of study may offer insights that are important to the understanding not only of specific markets but also of how new technologies should be introduced in big and well-established industries. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cross-laminated-timber%20%28CLT%29" title="cross-laminated-timber (CLT)">cross-laminated-timber (CLT)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=industry%20breakthrough" title=" industry breakthrough"> industry breakthrough</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=student%20housing" title=" student housing"> student housing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=timber%20market" title=" timber market"> timber market</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50495/tracing-a-timber-breakthrough-a-qualitative-study-of-the-introduction-of-cross-laminated-timber-to-the-student-housing-market-in-norway" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50495.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">223</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">291</span> Post-Disaster Recovery and Impacts on Construction Resources: Case Studies of Queensland Catastrophic Events</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Scott%20A.%20Abbott">Scott A. Preparation and implementation of post-disaster recovery projects need to be improved to allow communities to recover infrastructure, housing, economically and socially following a catastrophe. With the continual rise in catastrophic events worldwide due to climate change, impacts on construction resources affect the ability for post-disaster recovery to be undertaken. This research focuses on case studies of catastrophic events in Queensland, Australia, to contribute to the body of knowledge and gain valuable insights on lessons learned from past events and how they have been managed. The aim of this research is to adopt qualitative data using semi-structured interviews from participants predominantly from the insurance sector to understand barriers that have previously and currently exist in post-disaster recovery. Existing literature was reviewed to reveal gaps in knowledge that needed to be tested. Qualitative data was collected and summarised from field research with the results analysed and discussed. Barriers that impacted post-disaster recovery included time, cost, and resource capability and capacity. Causal themes that impacted time and cost were identified as decision making, pre-planning, and preparedness, as well as effective communication across stakeholders. The research study applied a qualitative approach to the existing literature and case studies across Queensland, Australia, to identify existing and new barriers that impact post-disaster recovery. It was recommended to implement effective procurement strategies to assist in cost control; implement pre-planning and preparedness strategies across funder, contractor, and local governments; more effective and timely decision making to reduce time and cost impacts. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
