The ever increasing IT tools help people communicate, visualize problems and solutions, make decisions, and understand each other. Conflict and violent can be caused by many parties, for different reasons, and in different ways. As such various IT tools have been developed to contribute in implementing various peace building methods. This paper provides a categorization of those tools and suggests ways on utilizing them as one of the viable strategy for peace. The categories are clustered into tools meant for providing and processing information, reducing scarcity, supporting relationship and improving decision making. Tools as rare as PeaceMaker (a simulation tool, of Carnegie-Mellon University, which simulates the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) and as common as Facebook, are analyzed in term of their usage with respect to peacemaking. There are also tools which are claimed to be developed for peace but are misused. PowerScene (a digital mapping simulation program used by the USA during the crisis in Yugoslavia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Baghdad) is an example. Indeed, IT tools discussed in this paper can be used for good and bad deeds (distract, provoke, or mislead). Such are proves that these are merely tools-human character and their realistic appraisal would finally determine the usage. To improve on positive uses of the IT tools and its revolution, in this paper we also suggest that software manufacturers develop tools with proper guidance, taking into account cultural values and Tools as rare as PeaceMaker (a simulation tool, of Carnegie-Mellon University, which simulates the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) and as common as Facebook, are analyzed in term of their usage with respect to peacemaking. There are also tools which are claimed to be developed for peace but are misused. PowerScene (a digital mapping simulation program used by the USA during the crisis in Yugoslavia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Baghdad) is an example. Mobile phones and the internet have altered how we engage with the world. With technology usage expanding rapidly in the developing world, new avenues of participation, engagement, and accountability are emerging. Globally, more people now have the opportunity to actively make use of these tools to participate in processes that impact their societies. This opportunity for participation is also an opportunity for engaging in new ways with peacebuilding processes. As the field of technology for peacebuilding grows, most attention has been paid to the potential of new technologies for bridging the gap between warning and response. Whilst the focus on the use of technology for early warning and response is important, there is more to this growing field. The empowerment of people to participate in localized conflict management efforts is one of the most significant innovations and opportunities created by new technologies. Technology can contribute to peacebuilding processes by offering tools that foster collaboration, transform attitudes, and give a stronger voice to communities. This article aims to give practitioners two related frameworks to understand how new technologies can enhance peacebuilding. The first section looks at the functions that technology can have in a peacebuilding program as a tool for data processing, communication, engagement, and gaming. The chapter is concerned with how digital and web-based information and communication technologies can be used to prevent and manage armed violence, foster inclusive societies, and ensure a durable and high-quality peace. The UN is increasingly adopting new technologies, particularly within the field of peacekeeping. To increase situational awareness, UN peacekeeping staff have crowdsourced information and used drones and satellite imagery. In addition, the analysis of peacekeeping data holds great potential for early warning. New technolog ical tools can help foster collaboration, transform attitudes, and give a stronger voice to local communities. Online platforms have been used to monitor elections, document hu man rights abuses, and facilitate communication between members of different sides in a conflict. However, since one cannot simply assume that technology will change every thing for the better, it is crucial to be aware of the ethical implications of the use of new peace technologies. The UN needs to be careful that early warning is translated into ear ly action. Peacekeepers and peacebuilders should also be vigilant when it comes to miti gating the possible abuse and negative side effects of the use of peace technologies. The rationale was to forge links, via technology, between communities who were banned from meeting and interacting with one another due to political blockades to movement. Laouris and his colleagues thought that modern technology could transcend the barriers to access across the border and create a space for communication between Greek-and Turkish-Cypriots. This 'space' which was imagined by the makers of the 'Tech4Peace' project was virtual. The reference was to cyberspace. The website of the project favourably presented the uses of information and communication technologies in the service of 'peace', writing: 'the Internet can overcome the challenge posed by physical separation, whether due to geographic, political or other reasons, by effectively moving discourse into cyberspace'. 1 Here, the internet was being conceived as an instrument for re-creating contact between two communities which had been banned from communicating for more than twenty years.
