of the arrests of comrades William, Sindhu, Zahra, Nasri and Jami (along with her daughter) from Workers' Solidarity Federation in Pakistan. They were among the scores of protestors arrested during the police riot against a protest in Karachi on October 13. We are demanding their immediate release.</strong></p> <p>The demonstration was sparked by the murder of Dr Shahnawaz, who was accused of „blasphemy” because of his posts on social media. Shahnawaz was shot dead last month by police. Following an inquiry into the killing, the Sindh Home Minister announced that the police had “staged the encounter” which led to the shooting.</p> <p>The government had attempted to ban yesterday's protest. The protest, which also was against religious extremism was attended by trade unions, human rights activists and feminists. We will not go into the reasons for this situation, something we already did 3 years ago in a text entitled ‘Against all odds’. Today our intention is to inform and point out some questions about the content and the meaning of the lawsuits. </p> <p>The lawsuits seek to force us (through the State) to stop using ‘the name National Confederation of Labour, the initials CNT, its distinctive signs [flags and logos] ... and its emblem [Hercules fighting the Lion of Nemea]’, with the argument that ‘they are registered as National Trademarks’ (at the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office) in the name of the CNT-CIT. They accuse us of supplanting an identity that they claim belongs to them and seek to confuse their potential affiliates by using this historical prestige. But the only certainty is that, of the two parties, the CNT-AIT is the only one that has always made it clear who it is and to which international it belongs (the International Workers' Association founded in 1922). About the CNT-CIT, on the other hand, one could almost say that they deliberately hide this as a marketing strategy. Who is creating the confusion? The answer seems obvious to us.</p> <p>Another point that we think is relevant in the lawsuits is their intention to judicially prevent us from publically saying what happened, about their intolerable behaviour, their political manoeuvres and their corrupt practices. Founded in Berlin in 1922, for over a century it has been fighting against all odds for workers' self-management and libertarian organization. Currently it has organizations in 21 countries and has expanded to new areas of the globe.</p> <p>One of the most well-known organizations in our International is the CNT-AIT in Spain. Several years ago, a faction of this organization managed, among other ways by conducting purges, to take defacto control of all the increasingly centralized functions of the organization. It also tried, without success, to disenfranchise the majority of the IWA Sections and, when it failed, tried to “relaunch” the IWA behind closed doors with just two other Sections. Finally, this faction launched the International Confederation of Labor, (in Spanish CIT), consisting of other organizations with other practices than the International Workers' Association, IWA. The CNT-AIT remains the Spanish Section of the IWA, retaining the same principles as the CNT-AIT prior to the attempts to reform the organization on different principles.</p> <p>One fact that must be stressed is that the Spanish section of CIT, which has a cadre of professional lawyers, claims the exclusive right to the name CNT and all the property that was ever held by the CNT-AIT. This organization has effectively stolen the IWA archives which it keeps in poor conditions in a warehouse outside Toledo, refusing even access to it. It is also suing numerous unions of the CNT-AIT and a libertarian ateneo as well, for enormous amounts of money. This decision to start the suits was made by the lawyers, not by the general membership, showing the authoritarian and vertical direction the union has taken. No entraremos a explicar el por qué de esta situación, algo que ya hicimos hace 3 años en un texto titulado “Contra viento y marea” [2].</p> <p>Nuestra intención hoy es informar y señalar algunas cuestiones sobre el contenido y el significado de las demandas. Las demandas pretenden conseguir que se nos obligue (desde el Estado) a dejar de usar “la denominación Confederación Nacional del Trabajo, las siglas CNT, sus signos distintivos [banderas y logos] … y su emblema [Hércules<br /> luchando contra el León de Nemea]”, con el argumento de que “son Marcas Nacionales registradas” (en la Oficina Española de Patentes y Marcas) a nombre de las CNT-CIT. Nos acusan de suplantar una identidad que les pertenece y buscar confundir a sus potenciales afiliados/as usando su prestigio histórico. Pero lo único cierto es que, de ambas partes, la CNT-AIT es la única que siempre ha dejado bien claro quién es y a qué internacional pertenece (la Asociación Internacional de los y las Trabajadores fundada en 1922). De la CNT-CIT, por su parte, casi se podría decir que lo ocultan deliberadamente como estrategia de marketing. ¿Quién crea la confusión? La respuesta nos parece evidente. Otro punto que creemos relevante de las demandas es su intención de impedirnos judicialmente hacer público lo ocurrido, sus intolerables conductas, sus maniobras políticas y sus corruptelas. Pretenden silenciarnos haciendo uso de la Audiencia Nacional, consiguiendo por la fuerza del Estado o que su nula legitimidad moral ha sido incapaz de lograr.</p> <p>Por si esto no fuera ya vergonzoso, piden 50.000 € a cada sindicato demandado (un total de 800.000 €) por los supuestos “daños morales”, ocasionados, con el objetivo de ahogarnos económicamente. Es evidente que este juicio no busca solo arrebatarnos un nombre y una identidad, pretende negarnos lo que hemos construido durante más de un siglo y enterrarnos bajo escandalosas indemnizaciones. El argumento de los supuestos “daños morales” es completamente ridículo, una estrategia punitivista y deshonesta<br /> para lograr lo que llevan buscando años. Fundada en Berlín en 1922, desde hace más de un siglo lucha contra viento y marea por la autogestión obrera y la organización libertaria. Actualmente cuenta con organizaciones en 21 países y se ha expandido a nuevas áreas del planeta. .</p> <p>Una de las organizaciones más conocidas de nuestra Internacional es la CNT-AIT en España. Hace varios años, una facción de esta organización logró, entre otras cosas mediante purgas, tomar el control de facto de todas las funciones cada vez más centralizadas de la organización.</p> <p>También intentó, sin éxito, privar de derechos a la mayoría de las Secciones de la AIT y, cuando fracasó, intentó “relanzar” la AIT a puerta cerrada con sólo otras dos Secciones.</p> <p>Finalmente, esta facción lanzó la Confederación Internacional del Trabajo (CIT), compuesta por otras organizaciones con prácticas diferentes a las de la Asociación Internacional de los Trabajadores, AIT.
