As a consequence, this means that the consciousness of emotions involves an immediate presentation of the presentation in which the &#39;affective&#39; mind is directed toward some object. Somehow differently, contemporary philosophical and psychological emotion theories are more interested in the experiential criterion of emotions, and, assuming that they acknowledge the intentionality criterion, the relation between conscious phenomenality and intentionality, in this case, is conceived of as an extrinsic relation. The core of the opposition between Brentano and Husserl is to be found in the ontological background of their theories, as a result of which they hold two different approaches of the existential import of intentionality. This paper investigates those differences in order to ask whether a relational understanding of intentionality is likely to give a satisfying account of reality. In this context, the text focuses on the following topics: the relation between the inauthentic presentations of the phantasy and perceptual presentations; the relation between presentations with attributive unity and surrogate presentations in logic; and the relation between the intuitive and conceptual element in the constitution of phantasy presentations. The study argues that, despite the title of the lecture – Ausgewählte Fragen aus Psychologie und Ästhetik – Brentano’s analysis of phantasy presentation does not refer to the aesthetic function, but to the psychological function of this presentation.
