It is believed to refer to a tribe or nation located in the Arabian Peninsula. The mention of "all the kings" suggests a confederation or multiple rulers within this region. This reflects the widespread nature of God's judgment, extending even to lesser-known nations. The inclusion of Zimri highlights the comprehensive scope of the prophecy, indicating that no nation is exempt from divine accountability.<p><b>Elam</b><br>Elam was an ancient civilization located in what is now southwestern Iran. It was a significant power in the ancient Near East, often interacting with Mesopotamian empires. Elam's mention here underscores the reach of Babylon's influence and God's judgment. Historically, Elam was known for its skilled archers and played a role in various regional conflicts. The prophecy against Elam is further expanded in <a href="/jeremiah/49-34.htm">Jeremiah 49:34-39</a>, where God promises to break Elam's bow, symbolizing the end of its military power. This serves as a reminder of God's sovereignty over all nations, regardless of their military might.<p><b>and Media</b><br>Media was an ancient kingdom located in the northwestern part of modern-day Iran. It was known for its powerful army and played a crucial role in the downfall of the Assyrian Empire. The Medes later formed an alliance with the Persians, leading to the rise of the Medo-Persian Empire. The inclusion of Media in this prophecy highlights the interconnectedness of ancient Near Eastern politics and the eventual shift in power dynamics. Media's mention also foreshadows its future significance in biblical history, as the Medo-Persian Empire would later conquer Babylon, fulfilling other prophetic scriptures such as <a href="/daniel/5-28.htm">Daniel 5:28</a>. This demonstrates the unfolding of God's plan through historical events, emphasizing His control over the rise and fall of empires.<div class="vheading2">Persons / Places / Events</div>1. <b><a href="/topical/z/zimri.htm">Zimri</a></b><br>A region or people group mentioned in the context of God's judgment. It is possibly connected with Zimran, the eldest son of Abraham by Keturah (<a href="/genesis/25-2.htm" title="And she bore him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.">Genesis 25:2</a>), and points, therefore--as does its position here--to a nomad tribe in Arabia lying between the Red Sea, Arabia, and the Persian Gulf. The name Zabram occurs in Greek geographers as that of a city on the Red Sea west of Mecca, and there was a Zimara on the Upper Euphrates. "Elam," properly applied to the region of which Susa was the capital (<a href="/daniel/8-2.htm" title="And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.">Daniel 8:2</a>), was extended by the Hebrew writers to the whole of Persia. (See Notes on <a href="/genesis/10-22.htm" title="The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.">Genesis 10:22</a>; <a href="/context/genesis/14-1.htm" title="And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;">Genesis 14:1-12</a>; <a href="/isaiah/21-2.htm" title="A grievous vision is declared to me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the spoiler spoils. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.">Isaiah 21:2</a>.) As in the last of these references, it is coupled here with Media.<p><div class="vheading2"><a href="/commentaries/pulpit/jeremiah/25.htm">Pulpit Commentary</a></div><span class="cmt_sub_title">Verse 25.</span> - <span class="cmt_word">Zimri</span>. The Zimri were a people to the northeast of Assyria, against whom various Assyrian kings waged war (<span class="accented">Transactions of the Society of Biblical Archaeology</span>, 1878, pp. 13, 15, 34; 'Records of the Past,' 5:41). Whether they axe to be connected with the Zimran of <a href="/genesis/25-2.htm">Genesis 25:2</a> seems doubtful; their locality hardly suits. Elam. Elam, one of the most ancient monarchies in the world (comp. <a href="/genesis/14.htm">Genesis 14</a>.), is again coupled with Media in <a href="/isaiah/21-2.htm">Isaiah 21:2</a>. It was a region on the east of the lower Tigris, bounded westward by Babylonia, northward by Assyria and Media, southward by the Persian Gulf. To say that it is put either here or anywhere else in the Old Testament for the whole of Persia seems a mistake, as the Persians were hardly known before the time of Cyrus. <span class="p"><br /><br /></span><span class="versiontext"><a href="/commentaries/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Parallel Commentaries ...</a></span><span class="p"><br /><br /><br /></span><a name="lexicon" id="lexicon"></a><div class="vheading">Hebrew</div><span class="word">all</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1499;&#1468;&#1464;&#1500;&#1470;</span> <span class="translit">(k&#257;l-)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - masculine singular construct<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_3605.htm">Strong's 3605: </a> </span><span class="str2">The whole, all, any, every</span><br /><br /><span class="word">the kings</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1502;&#1463;&#1500;&#1456;&#1499;&#1461;&#1443;&#1497;</span> <span class="translit">(mal&#183;&#7733;&#234;)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - masculine plural construct<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_4428.htm">Strong's 4428: </a> </span><span class="str2">A king</span><br /><br /><span class="word">of Zimri,</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1494;&#1460;&#1502;&#1456;&#1512;&#1460;&#1431;&#1497;</span> <span class="translit">(zim&#183;r&#238;)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - proper - feminine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_2174.htm">Strong's 2174: </a> </span><span class="str2">Zimri -- four Israelites</span><br /><br /><span class="word">Elam,</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1506;&#1461;&#1497;&#1500;&#1464;&#1428;&#1501;</span> <span class="translit">(&#8216;&#234;&#183;l&#257;m)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - proper - feminine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_5867.htm">Strong's 5867: </a> </span><span class="str2">Elam -- a son of Shem, also his descendants and their country</span><br /><br /><span class="word">and</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1493;&#1456;&#1488;&#1461;&#1430;&#1514;</span> <span class="translit">(w&#601;&#183;&#8217;&#234;&#7791;)</span><br /><span class="parse">Conjunctive waw &#124; Direct object marker<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_853.htm">Strong's 853: </a> </span><span class="str2">Untranslatable mark of the accusative case</span><br /><br /><span class="word">Media;</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1502;&#1464;&#1491;&#1464;&#1469;&#1497;&#1475;</span> <span class="translit">(m&#257;&#183;&#7695;&#257;y)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - proper - masculine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_4074.htm">Strong's 4074: </a> </span><span class="str2">Media -- a son of Japheth, also his descendants and their land</span><br /><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><div class="vheading">Links</div><a href="/niv/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 NIV</a><br /><a href="/nlt/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 NLT</a><br /><a href="/esv/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 ESV</a><br /><a href="/nasb/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 NASB</a><br /><a href="/kjv/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 KJV</a><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><a href="//bibleapps.com/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 BibleApps.com</a><br /><a href="//bibliaparalela.com/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 Biblia Paralela</a><br /><a href="//holybible.com.cn/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 Chinese Bible</a><br /><a href="//saintebible.com/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 French Bible</a><br /><a href="/catholic/jeremiah/25-25.htm">Jeremiah 25:25 Catholic Bible</a><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><a href="/jeremiah/25-25.htm">OT Prophets: Jeremiah 25:25 And all the kings of Zimri (Jer.) </a></div></div></td></tr></table></div><div id="left"><a href="/jeremiah/25-24.htm" onmouseover='lft.src="/leftgif.png"' onmouseout='lft.src="/left.png"' title="Jeremiah 25:24"><img src="/left.png" name="lft" border="0" alt="Jeremiah 25:24" /></a></div><div id="right"><a href="/jeremiah/25-26.htm" onmouseover='rght.src="/rightgif.png"' onmouseout='rght.src="/right.png"' title="Jeremiah 25:26"><img src="/right.png" name="rght" border="0" alt="Jeremiah 25:26" /></a></div><div id="botleft"><a href="#" onmouseover='botleft.src="/botleftgif.png"' onmouseout='botleft.src="/botleft.png"' title="Top of Page"><img src="/botleft.png" name="botleft" border="0" alt="Top of Page" /></a></div><div id="botright"><a href="#" onmouseover='botright.src="/botrightgif.png"' onmouseout='botright.src="/botright.png"' title="Top of Page"><img src="/botright.png" name="botright" border="0" alt="Top of Page" /></a></div><div id="bot"><iframe width="100%" height="1500" scrolling="no" src="/botmenubhnew2.htm" frameborder="0"></iframe></div></td></tr></table></div></body></html>
