Women are generally more susceptible to various pregnancy-related complications and respiratory pathogens, increasing the risk of developing adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes. Anecdotal evidence suggests that pregnant women do not appear to differ from the general population in terms of disease transmission, and to date, there is no evidence of vertical transmission from mother to fetus. However, in another study, it is known that members of the coronavirus family are responsible for serious complications such as miscarriage, fetal growth restriction, and congenital anomalies during pregnancy. Most of the data available still unclear. It affects vulnerable populations as those with lowered immunity, chronic diseases and pregnant females. Many questions have to be answered as during pregnancy care should be given to mother, fetus and neonate. Also, the obstetricians should follow the evidence-based recommendations during their routine antenatal care and during labor. We reviewed the recent and available online published researches since the outbreak of COVID-19 to know what we know about the impact of the recent pandemic on the pregnancy and pregnant women. Till now it is reported that being pregnant does not make women at more risk compared to general population, however the use of prophylactic doses of LMWH is essential to prevent venous thromboembolism. COVID-19 might lead to fetal growth restriction or miscarriage, but the evidence to date remains uncertain. Vertical transmission of the virus is a possibility, but it is not excreted in breast milk. Information on the infection risks for pregnant women and their offspring have so far been limited to small case series, until a large UK report on 427 SARS-CoV-2 infected pregnant women was published. Previous SARS epidemic experiences were drawn upon. Diagnostic use of real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and IgG and IgM antibody tests are fraught with concerns of non-validation and false negative results, as are sampling methodologies. Virtually no information on controls accompany these reports. Infection of the mother and baby has serious implications for obstetric and neonatal care. Modifications in the circulatory, pulmonary, hormonal, and immunological pathways induced by pregnancy render pregnant women as a high-risk group. A growing body of research shows that SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy is connected to a number of maternal complications, including pneumonia and intensive care unit (ICU) hospitalization. Miscarriages, stillbirth, preterm labor, as well as pre-eclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction are also among the most often documented fetal implications, particularly among expecting women who have significant COVID-19 symptoms, often affecting the timing and route of delivery.
