infiltrate classrooms today at an exceeding rapid pace, therefore teachers face a growing challenge to use technology that is evolving everyday to a teach a very “wired” and equally “wireless” generation of students . This paper defines 21st century students and teachers, and presents the challenges educators face as these students and their accompanying technology cross the classroom threshold. The paper then argues that ICT is an integral part of the modern society and analyses the characteristics of the 21st century that make it imperative for Nigerian teachers to appreciate and use information and communications technology. Therefore, Nigerian teachers are obliged to embrace ICT if they are to be relevant internationally. The research findings indicated that ICT have great impact on teaching and learning in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Also the introduction of ICT makes learning so interesting for the students. T he findings also revealed that ICT facilities which serve as a major contributor to effective teaching and learning in teacher education programmes were not available.
