It describes a <a href="/wiki/Progressive_wave" class="mw-redirect" title="Progressive wave">progressive wave</a> of permanent form on the surface of an <a href="/wiki/Incompressible_fluid" class="mw-redirect" title="Incompressible fluid">incompressible fluid</a> of infinite depth. The free surface of this wave solution is an inverted (upside-down) <a href="/wiki/Trochoid" title="Trochoid">trochoid</a> – with sharper <a href="/wiki/Crest_(physics)" class="mw-redirect" title="Crest (physics)">crests</a> and flat troughs.
