He says to Him, "Lord, dost Thou wash my feet?" <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Jesus answered, and said to him, <FR>"What I am doing you know not now; but you shall know hereafter."<Fr> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Peter says to Him, "Thou shalt never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, <FR>"If I wash you not, you have no part with Me."<Fr> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Simon Peter says to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head." <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Jesus saith to him, <FR>"He who has bathed has no need, except to wash his feet, but is wholly clean; and ye are clean, but not all;"<Fr> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>for He knew him who would betray Him; on this account, He said, <FR>"Ye are not all clean."<Fr><p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>When, therefore, He washed their feet, and took His garments, and reclined again, He said to them, <FR>"Do ye know what I have done to you?<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span><FR>Ye call Me 'The Teacher,' and 'The Lord;' and ye say well; for <i>so</i> I am.<Fr> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span><FR>If, therefore, I, 'The Lord,' and 'The Teacher,' washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet;<Fr> <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span><FR>for I gave you an example, that, as I did to you, ye also should do.<Fr> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><FR>Verily, verily, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his lord, nor one who is sent greater than he who sent him.<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span><FR>If ye know these things, happy are ye, if ye do them.<Fr><p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Predicts His Betrayal<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span><FR>I speak not concerning all of you: I know whom I chose; but, that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'He that eats My bread lifted up his heel against Me.'<Fr> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span><FR>From this time, I tell you before it comes to pass; that, when it comes to pass, ye may believe that I am <i>He</i>.<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><FR>Verily, verily, I say to you, he who receives whomsoever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."<Fr><p> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Having said these things, Jesus was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, <FR>"Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me."<Fr> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>The disciples were looking one on another, doubting about whom He was speaking. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>There was <i>at the table</i> reclining in Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Simon Peter, therefore, beckons to this one, and says to him, "Tell us who <i>it is</i> about whom He is speaking." <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He, leaning back as <i>he was</i> on the breast of Jesus, says to Him, "Lord, who is it?" <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Jesus, therefore, answereth, <FR>"He it is for whom I shall dip the morsel, and give it to him."<Fr> Having, therefore, dipped the morsel, He taketh and giveth it to Judas, <i>son</i> of Simon Iscariot. <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And after the morsel, then Satan entered into him. Jesus, therefore, saith to him, <FR>"What you do, do quickly."<Fr> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And no one of those reclining knew for what purpose He spake this to him; <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>for some thought, because Judas had the money-bag, that Jesus said to him, "Buy what we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor. <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>He, therefore, having received the morsel, went out straightway; and it was night.<p> <A name="32"></a><p class="hdg">Love One Another<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../romans/12.htm#9">Romans 12:9–13</a>; <a href ="../1_john/3.htm#11">1 John 3:11–24</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>When, therefore, he went out, Jesus saith, <FR>"Now was the Son of Man glorified, and God was glorified in Him.<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span><FR>And God will glorify Him in Himself, and will straightway glorify Him.<Fr> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span><FR>Little children, yet a little while I am with you.
