And no longer was anyone able to bind him, not even with chains, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn in two by him, and the shackles had been shattered, and no one was able to subdue him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And constantly all night and day in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out and cutting himself with stones. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And having seen Jesus from afar, he ran and fell on his knees before Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And having cried in a loud voice, he said, “What to me and to You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God, do not torment me.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For He was saying to him, <span class="red">“You come forth out of the man, unclean spirit!”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And He was asking him, <span class="red">“What <i>is</i> your name?”</span></p><p class="reg"> And he answered saying, “My name <i>is</i> Legion, because we are many.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And he begged Him numerous times that He would not send them out of the country. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Now there was a great herd of pigs there near the mountain, feeding. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And they begged Him, saying, “Send us into the pigs, so that we may enter into them.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And He allowed them. And the unclean spirits having gone out, entered into the pigs, and the herd—about two thousand—rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And those feeding them fled and proclaimed <i>it</i> to the city and to the country. And they went out to see what it is that has been done. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And they come to Jesus and see the <i>man</i> possessed by demons sitting, clothed and sound minded—the <i>one</i> having had the legion—and they were afraid. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And those having seen <i>it</i> related to them how it happened to the <i>one</i> being possessed by demons, and concerning the pigs. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And they began to implore Him to depart from their region. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And He having entered into the boat, the <i>one</i> having been possessed by demons was begging Him that he might be with Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And He did not permit him, but He says to him, <span class="red">“Go to your home, to your own, and preach to them how much the Lord did for you and had mercy on you.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And he departed and began to proclaim in the Decapolis<span class="fn"><a href="#fnb" title="That is, the Ten Cities">b</a></span> how much Jesus had done for him; and all were marveling. </p><p class="hdg">The Healing Touch of Jesus<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 9:18-26; Luke 8:40-56)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And Jesus having passed over again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd was gathered to Him, and He was beside the sea. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And one of the synagogue rulers comes, named Jairus, and having seen Him, falls at His feet, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>and he begs Him much, saying, “My little daughter is holding at the end, that having come, You would lay the hands on her, so that she might be cured, and she shall live.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And He departed with him. And a great crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And a woman, being with a flux of blood twelve years, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>and having suffered much under many physicians and having spent everything of hers, and having benefited in no way, but rather to the worse having come, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>having heard concerning Jesus, having come up in the crowd behind, she touched His clothing. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>For she was saying, “If I shall touch even His garments, I will be healed.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And immediately her flow of blood was dried up, and she knew in the body that she was healed from the affliction. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And immediately Jesus, having known in Himself the power having gone forth out of Him, having turned in the crowd, said, <span class="red">“Who touched My garments?”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And His disciples were saying to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, <span class="red">‘Who touched Me?’</span>” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And He was looking around to see the <i>one</i> having done this. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And the woman, having been frightened and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before Him, and told Him the whole truth. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And He said to her, <span class="red">“Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace and be sound from your affliction.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span><i>While</i> yet He is speaking, they come from the ruler of the synagogue’s <i>house</i>, saying, “Your daughter is dead; why do you trouble the Teacher still?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>But Jesus, having heard the word spoken, says to the ruler of the synagogue, <span class="red">“Do not fear; only believe.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And He did not allow <i>anyone</i> to follow with Him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And they come to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and He beholds a commotion, and much weeping and wailing. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And having entered, He says to them, <span class="red">“Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeps.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And they were laughing at Him.</p><p class="reg"> And He, having put all outside, takes with <i>Him</i> the father and the mother of the child, and those with Him, and enters in where the child was. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And having taken the hand of the child, He says to her, <span class="red">“Talitha, koum!”</span> which is translated, <span class="red">“Little girl, I say to you, arise!”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>And immediately the girl arose and began walking, for she was twelve of years.
