Ce faisant, une plus grande pression est exercée sur les milieux scolaires pour qu’ils établissent une meilleure collaboration avec les familles et qu’ils permettent aux parents de s’impliquer davantage dans le cheminement scolaire de leur enfant. Malgré cela, la réalité montre une implication plutôt faible ou ciblée des parents et des pratiques de collaboration mitigées des enseignants. Parmi les motifs explicatifs de cette situation, le manque de compétence des parents est souvent évoqué par les parents eux-mêmes ou par les personnels scolaires. Dès lors, la question visant à identifier les compétences parentales souhaitables ou nécessaires à leur implication apparait comme incontournable. Pour tenter de répondre à cette question, nous avons mené une recherche auprès de parents (n=112) d’enfants âgés de 5 à 16 ans et d’éducateurs scolaires (n=80) afin d’identifier les compétences attendues des parents selon divers types d’implication dans le cheminement scolaire de l’enfant. Les résultats indiquent un niveau de similitude assez grand entre les compétences identifiées par les parents et les éducateurs scolaires. Plus particulièrement, les compétences qui concernent des connaissances en français, des habiletés de communication et des attitudes de respect apparaissent comme étant les plus importantes. Le rôle de la compétence en lecture des élèves des niveaux primaire et secondaire en lien avec leur réussite scolaire a été le sujet fondamental dans diverses études. La prévention des difficultés à l’école primaire maximisant les apprentissages socioscolaires au début de la scolarisation (Poulin et Brodeur, 2010) et la prévention des difficultés d’apprentissage en lecture chez les enseignants de maternelle (Brodeur et al, 2005) démontrent également l’importance de la compétence en lecture chez les élèves fréquentant l’école. Il devient donc pertinent d’explorer les facteurs ou les conditions favorables contribuant à la socialisation, l’adaptation et la réussite scolaire de ce publique. De viser à connaitre l’impact du côté socio-culturel et identitaire de l’apprentissage du français langue seconde(langue de la scolarité) en contexte français du Québec sur la réussite scolaire et socialisation des élèves allophones des niveaux primaire-secondaire, c’est-à-dire en lecture/écriture.
