Loades\nPublisher: CBE International\n\nThis essay arose from my contribution to the lecture series which commemorates the remarkable achievements of the Smith sisters, known in the course of time as Dr. Margaret Gibson and Dr. Agnes Lewis. My tactics in this essay are to offer a look, both retrospective and prospective, via a narrative with comments which may, I hope, stimulate some discussion. I am hoping that women in this day and age may continue to contribute to theology and religious studies, as they have for some considerable time both without and within an institutional base of some kind. In other words, in engaging with the past I am looking and hoping for stimulus for the present and the future. It is recognised, however, that there will be problems to face in engaging with theology and religious studies, since some of these relate to issues intrinsic to Christian tradition in much need of reform. The first conference, organized by the British Methodist Heritage Committee, focused on the mother of the Wesleys, while the second, held at the Oxford Centre for Methodism and Church History, explored Methodist women preachers in Britain. class="ds-related-work--abstract ds2-5-body-sm">Ekklisiyar "Yan"uwa A Nigeria (EYN)-Church of the Brethren in Nigeria is the bases for this publication as a case of study to address the ordination of women theologians as to the mother Church in America which produced the Missionaries that came to Nigeria in March, 1923. The purpose of this paper is to address the significance of men and women in theology where they both undergo the same training at all levels in theological seminaries both at home and abroad institutions of learning. The implication is that, what becomes of male and female having the same level of knowledge of theology but functions differently. This scholarship first explored women’s religious experiences, and then began to investigate the relationships between gender and religion more broadly, what Ursula King has described as a ‘double paradigm shift’. It is now clear that without using gender as an analytical category, religion can no longer be fully described or evaluated. Gender issues permeate religion in very complicated ways, manifesting themselves at levels from the local to the universal, and gender also intersects with other categories of analysis such as race, class, or ethnicity. It speaks about how women are more in the Pastoral roles and have always been an important part of God"s ministry work throughout Biblical History. That does not mean that women are now giving up there roles of wife and mother for a position of power, or at the heads of their homes and marriages. It just shows that God has always used women in some form of Ministerial work and continues to do so today.
