The present study explored the proactive coping-s effect on the workplace adaptation after transition from college to workplace. In order to demonstrate the influence process between them, we constructed the model of proactive coping style effecting the actual positive coping efforts and outcomes by mediating proactive competence during one year after the transition. Participants (n = 100) started to work right after graduating from college completed all the four time-s surveys --one month before (Time 0), one month after (Time 1), three months after (Time 2), and one year after (Time 3) the transition. Time 0 survey included the measurement of proactive coping style and competence. Time 1, 2, 3 surveys included the measurement of the challenge cognitive appraisal, problem solving coping strategy, and subjective workplace adaptation. The result indicated that proactive coping style effected newcomers- actual coping efforts and outcomes by mediating proactive coping competence. The result also showed that proactive coping competence directly promoted Time1-s actual positive coping efforts and outcomes, and indirectly promoted Time 2-s and Time 3-s. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Proactive%20coping%20style" title="Proactive coping style">Proactive coping style</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=proactive%20coping%20competence" title=" proactive coping competence"> proactive coping competence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=transition%20form%20college%20to%20workplace" title=" transition form college to workplace"> transition form college to workplace</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=workplace%20adaptation." title=" workplace adaptation."> workplace adaptation.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/effects-of-proactive-coping-on-workplace-adaptation-after-transition-from-college-to-workplace" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/355.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">2319</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">553</span> The Relation between Proactive Coping and Well-Being: An Example of Middle-Aged and Older Learners from Taiwan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Ya-Hui%20Lee">Ya-Hui Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Ching-Yi%20Lu"> Ching-Yi Lu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Hui-Chuan%20Wei"> Hui-Chuan Wei</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p>The purpose of this research was to explore the relation between proactive coping and well-being of middle-aged adults. In recent years, studies have suggested that in order to have successful aging and retirement planning, a view for the future is necessary. In Taiwan, civil servants receive better pensions and retirement benefits than do other industries. Therefore, their retirement preparation is considerably more significant than other senior groups in Taiwan. The purpose of this study is to understand the correlation of proactive coping and retirement planning of senior civil servants in Taiwan. The method is conducted by questionnaire surveys, with 342 valid questionnaires collected. The results of this study are: 1. The background variables of the interviewees, including age, perceived economic statuses, and retirement statuses, are all significantly related to their proactive coping and retirement planning. 2. Regarding age, the interviewees with ages 55 and above have better proactive coping and retirement planning than those with ages 45 and below. 3. In the aspect of perceived economic statuses, the participants who feel &ldquo;very good&rdquo; economic statuses have better proactive coping ability and retirement readiness than those who feel &ldquo;bad&rdquo; and &ldquo;very bad&rdquo;. 4. Retirees have better proactive coping and retirement planning than those who are still working. 5. Monthly income is significant in retirement planning only. The participants&rsquo; retirement planning would be better if they have higher incomes. Furthermore, the participants&rsquo; retirement planning would be better if their revenue were &euro;1453~&euro;1937, than if their revenue were below &euro;968. 6. There are positive correlations between proactive coping and retirement planning. 7. Proactive coping can predict retirement planning. We used the Identity Style Inventory by Berzonsky, distinguishing three basic, measured identity styles: informational, normative, diffuse-avoidant identity style and also commitment. The informational identity style influencing on personal adaptability, coping strategies, quality of life and the normative identity style, it means the style in which an individual takes on models of authorities at self-defining were found to have the highest representation in the studied group of adolescents by higher scores at girls in comparison with boys. The normative identity style positively correlates with the informational identity style. The diffuse-avoidant identity style was found to be positively associated with maladaptive decisional strategies, neuroticism and depressive reactions. There is the style, in which the individual shifts aside defining his personality. In our research sample the lowest score represents it and negatively correlates with commitment, it means with coping strategies, thrust in oneself and the surrounding world. The age of adolescents did not significantly differentiate representation of identity style. The study involved 70 persons (with cerebral palsy in the standard intellectual capacity) from families, in which at least one of parents is a migrant. To measure the level of communication in the family, the Family Relationships Questionnaire (FRQ) was employed, while the styles of coping with stress was investigated with the CISS Questionnaire. The relation between family relationships and styles of coping with stressful situations of the respondents was investigated. It was shown that there is an affiliation between the emotion-oriented style of coping with the stress and the variable of &ldquo;communication in my family&rdquo;. Moreover, it was demonstrated that there is a linkage between the task-oriented style of coping with the stress and the variable of &ldquo;maternal control in mother-child relationship&rdquo;. Young people with CP subjected to overprotection and control from their mothers in problem situations tend to focus on their own emotions instead of trying to undertake constructive actions. Therefore, in order to maintain a patient&rsquo;s life and improve the survival rate, hemodialysis is essential to replace the function of their kidneys. However, those patients may complain about multiple physical and psychological stressors due to the nature of the disease and the need for frequent hemodialysis sessions. So, those patients use various strategies to cope with the stressors related to their disease and the treatment procedures. Cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out to achieve the aim of the study. A convenient sample including all adult patients was recruited for this study. Hemodialysis Stressors Scale (HSS) and Jalowiec Coping Scale (JCS) were used to investigate the stressors and coping strategies of 89 hemodialysis patients, at a governmental hospital (King Khalid Hospital-Jeddah). Results of the study revealed that 50.7% experienced physiological stressors and 38% experienced psychosocial stressors. Also, optimistic, fatalistic, and supportive coping strategies were the most common coping strategies used by the patients with mean scores (2.88 + 0.75, 2.87 + 0.75, and 1.82 + 0.71), respectively. In conclusion, being familiar with the types of stressors and the effective coping strategies of hemodialysis patients and their families are important in order to enhance their adaptation with chronic kidney diseases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Coping%20strategies" title="Coping strategies">Coping strategies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=hemodialysis" title=" hemodialysis"> hemodialysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=physiological%20stressors" title=" physiological stressors"> physiological stressors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=psychological%20stressors." title=" psychological stressors. There are many challenges facing Australia as it moves&nbsp;into the future, climate change is proving to be one of the leading&nbsp;<span style="line-height: 1.6em;">challenges. In order to move forward with the mitigation of climate&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">change, the impacts of rapid urbanization need to be offset. Eco-roofs&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">are one way to achieve this; this study presents the energy savings&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">and environmental benefits of the implementation of eco-roofs in&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">subtropical climates. An experimental set-up was installed at&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">Rockhampton campus of Central Queensland University, where two&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">shipping containers were converted into small offices, one with an&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">eco-roof and one without. These were used for temperature, humidity&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">and energy consumption data collection. In addition, a computational&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">model was developed using Design Builder software (state-of-the-art&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">building energy simulation software) for simulating energy&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">consumption of shipping containers and environmental parameters,&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">this was done to allow comparison between simulated and real world&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">data. This study found that eco-roofs are very effective in subtropical&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">climates and provide energy saving of about 13% which agrees well&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">with simulated results.&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Climate%20Change" title="Climate Change">Climate Change</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Eco%2FGreen%20roof" title=" Eco/Green roof"> Eco/Green roof</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Energy%20savings" title=" Energy savings"> Energy savings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Subtropical%20climate." title=" Subtropical climate."> Subtropical climate.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/eco-roof-systems-in-subtropical-climates-for-sustainable-development-and-mitigation-of-climate-change" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/16252.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">2241</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">535</span> Post ERP Feral System and use of 鈥楩eral System as Coping Mechanism</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Tajul%20Urus">Tajul Urus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=S."> S.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Molla"> Molla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=A."> A.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Teoh"> Teoh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=S.Y."> S.Y.</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A number of studies highlighted problems related to ERP systems, yet, most of these studies focus on the problems during the project and implementation stages but not during the postimplementation use process. Problems encountered in the process of using ERP would hinder the effective exploitation and the extended and continued use of ERP systems and their value to organisations. This paper investigates the different types of problems users (operational, supervisory and managerial) faced in using ERP and how 'feral system' is used as the coping mechanism. The paper adopts a qualitative method and uses data collected from two cases and 26 interviews, to inductively develop a casual network model of ERP usage problem and its coping mechanism. This model classified post ERP usage problems as data quality, system quality, interface and infrastructure. It is possible to investigate the impact of illness representations and coping on quality of life and whether illness representations are indirectly associated with quality of life through their influence on coping. This study aims at investigating the relationship between illness perception, coping strategies and quality of life with chronic illness. Illness perceptions are indirectly associated with the quality of life through their influence on coping mediation. A sample of 316 participants with chronic illness living in the region of Batna, Algeria, has been adopted in this study. A correlation statistical analysis is used to determine the relationship between illness perception, coping strategies, and quality of life. Multiple regression analysis was employed to highlight the predictive ability of the dimensions of illness perception and coping strategies on the dependent variables of quality of life, where mediation analysis is considered in the exploration of the indirect effect significance of the mediator. This study provides insights about the relationship between illness perception, coping strategies and quality of life in the considered sample (r = 0.39, p &lt; 0.01). Therefore, it proves that there is an effect of illness identity perception, external and medical attributions related to emotional role, physical functioning, and mental health perceived, and these were fully mediated by the asking for assistance (c&rsquo;= 0.04, p &lt; 0.05), the guarding (c&rsquo;= 0.00, p &lt; 0.05), and the task persistence strategy (c&rsquo;= 0.05, p &lt; 0.05). The findings imply partial support for the common-sense model of illness representations in a chronic illness population. Directions for future research are highlighted, as well as implications for psychotherapeutic interventions which target unhelpful beliefs and maladaptive coping strategies (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy).</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Chronic%20illness" title="Chronic illness">Chronic illness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=coping" title=" coping"> coping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=illness%20perception" title=" illness perception"> illness perception</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=quality%20of%20life" title=" quality of life"> quality of life</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=self-regulation%20model." title=" self-regulation model."> self-regulation model.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/self-care-behavior-and-performance-level-associated-with-algerian-chronically-ill-patients" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010158.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">783</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">533</span> Destination Port Detection for Vessels: An Analytic Tool for Optimizing Port Authorities Resources</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Lubna%20Eljabu">Lubna Eljabu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Mohammad%20Etemad"> Mohammad Etemad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Stan%20Matwin"> Stan Matwin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p>Port authorities have many challenges in congested&nbsp;<span style="background-color: initial;">ports to allocate their resources to provide a safe and secure&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">loading/unloading procedure for cargo vessels. Selecting a destination&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">port is the decision of a vessel master based on many factors such&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">as weather, wavelength and changes of priorities. Having access&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">to a tool which leverages Automatic Identification System (AIS)&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">messages to monitor vessel鈥檚 movements and accurately predict their&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">next destination port promotes an effective resource allocation process&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">for port authorities. In this research, we propose a method, namely,&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">Reference Route of Trajectory (RRoT) to assist port authorities in&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">predicting inflow and outflow traffic in their local environment by&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">monitoring AIS messages. Our RRo method creates a reference&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">route based on historical AIS messages. A multiple criteria decision&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">making analysis (MCDMA) methodological process is adopted to&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">build a multiple criteria evaluation model. With the introduction of the&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">scholar index, which gives significant information about a researcher's&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">productivity and the scholarly impact of his or her publications in a&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">single number (s is the number of publications with at least s citations);&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">cumulative research citation index; the scholar index is included in the&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">citation databases to cover the multidimensional complexity of&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">scholarly research performance and to undertake objective evaluations&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">with scholar index. The scholar index, one of publication activity&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">indexes, is analyzed by considering it to be the most appropriate&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">sciencemetric indicator which allows to smooth over many drawbacks&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">of scholarly output assessment by mere calculation of the number of&nbsp;</span><span style="background-color: initial;">publications (quantity) and citations (quality). Starting from MIDI files of real-world improvisations, we extract the melody track and cut it into overlapping segments of equal length. From these fragments, some numerical features are extracted as descriptors of style samples. We show that a standard Bayesian classifier can be conveniently employed to build an effective musical style classifier, once this set of features has been extracted from musical data.
