The School’s strength is that it teaches students valuable horticulture skills, which give our graduates a competitive advantage over other programs based solely on coursework. The School’s program combines the theoretical and the practical, teaching not just how to grow plants, but why plants grow the way they do. It is due to this kind of education that our students are highly sought after, not just for internships, but also for full-time employment upon graduation." } },{ "@type": "Question", "name": "As someone who is switching careers, what is it like to work in the horticulture industry?", "acceptedAnswer": { "@type": "Answer", "text": "It is a close-knit community of dedicated and passionate professionals who are willing to share their knowledge, experience, information, and employment opportunities. Plant Studio is an online plant education program that teaches you skills in Pruning Basics, Container Gardening, Orchid Design, Landscape Design History, or Plant Science. With instruction from NYBG plant pros, grow your passion through pre-recorded courses, virtual tours of garden spaces, lively discussions with fellow students, and personal feedback on your projects from our experts.</p> <p>Courses are easy to take part in using the online learning platform Canvas! Each Wednesday you’ll be given access to a new module in your course—giving you a week to complete the coursework for that module. You can always revisit previous modules to brush up on your knowledge, and the course discussion board is a great place to engage with your fellow students. At the end of your course, you’ll hand in a final project and receive live feedback from your instructor.</p> <p><a class="button" href="https://www.enrole.com/nybg/jsp/index.jsp?categoryId=41DBF200#PlantStudioCategory">Register Now</a></p> </section> </div> <div class=""> <div class="container module video mb-2 mb-lg-4 p-2 bg-nybg-primary video-layout-full"> <div class="row"> <div class="col col-sm-10 offset-sm-1 col-md-8 offset-md-2 d-flex flex-column"> <div class="order-2 mt-3"> <h3> Introducing Plant Studio </h3> </div> <div> <div class="w-100 ratio ratio-16x9"> <lite-youtube videoid="0QXCvFv9n6I" params="color=white&rel=0&showinfo=0" js-api></lite-youtube> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="module wysiwygs container wysiwygs_tabbed " id="module2"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-12"> <h2>Explore Our Current Portfolio of Courses</h2> </div> </div> </div> <section class="module callout py-2 bg-nybg-primary"> <div class="container"> <div class="grid" style="--bs-columns: 3;"> <div class="g-col-12 g-col-sm-1 "> <img src="https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-160x160.jpg" srcset="https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1.jpg 1080w, https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-320x320.jpg 320w, https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-800x800.jpg 800w, https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-160x160.jpg 160w, https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-960x960.jpg 960w, https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-640x640.jpg 640w, https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-480x480.jpg 480w, https://www.nybg.org/content/uploads/2024/01/Pruning-Basics-MCO-DSC06999-1.1-240x240.jpg 240w" alt="A woman holds up pruning shears to a branch." sizes="(min-width: 992px) calc(65vw * 0.35), (min-width: 768px) calc((100vw - 2rem) * 0.35), calc(100vw - 2rem)" class="callout_img w-100" /> </div> <div class="d-flex flex-column justify-content-center align-items-start g-col-12 g-col-sm-2"> <article class="ps-md-3 ps-lg-6 py-lg-4 w-100 position-relative"> <h3> Pruning Basics </h3> <p>Learn to prune like NYBG! Course content is delivered weekly through pre-recorded videos with the Garden’s plant professionals, showcasing both the expertise and the beauty of The New York Botanical Garden. Each course includes weekly lectures, readings, assignments, and a final project on which students receive individualized feedback. Students have the opportunity to connect with course facilitators as well as each other through online discussion boards. Longer courses include at least one Zoom session for live interaction to ask questions and spotlight hot topics in the field.</p> <p>Students who complete course requirements will receive a digital credential from NYBG that can be shared on social media. Too busy to do the assignments? That’s okay, too. All courses include a 30-day, read-only period after the course concludes to rewatch course videos and review the discussion boards, so that you can learn at your own pace, on your own time, anywhere in the world, in the style that works best for you.</p> </div> </div> </li> <li class="accordion-item"> <h3 class="accordion-header ff-serif fs-25"> <button class="accordion-button px-0 collapsed" type="button" data-bs-toggle="collapse" data-bs-target="#accordion-item-9-1" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="accordion-item-9-1"> <span> Course Delivery & Length </span> </button> </h3> <div id="accordion-item-9-1" class="accordion-collapse collapse"> <div class="p-3"> <p>Plant Studio courses are accessed through NYBG’s learning management system, Canvas, which supports online learning.
