Le CICR f锚te alors ses 100 ans et de premi猫res initiatives pour cr茅er un mus茅e de la Croix-Rouge 脿 Gen猫ve sont propos茅es.</p> <p>Douze ans plus tard, en 1975, un d茅l茅gu茅 du CICR nomm茅 Laurent Marti d茅cide de concr茅tiser l鈥檌d茅e d'un mus茅e que ses missions lui ont inspir茅e. Il adresse une note d鈥檌ntention au directeur g茅n茅ral du CICR, Jean Pictet. Son objectif est de retracer les grandes 茅tapes de l鈥檋istoire humanitaire avant et apr猫s la cr茅ation de la Croix-Rouge. Son id茅e est accept茅e.</p> <p>Le concours d鈥檃rchitecture pour la construction du Mus茅e sur le site de la Colline de Pregny, 脿 proximit茅 du si猫ge du CICR, est lanc茅 4 ans plus tard, en 1979. C鈥檈st le projet de Pierre Zoelly, Georges Haefeli et Michel Girardet qui est retenu. La Fondation pour le Mus茅e international de la Croix-Rouge est cr茅茅e 1981.</p> <p>La premi猫re pierre du b芒timent est pos茅e le 20 novembre 1985, lors d鈥檜ne c茅r茅monie qui marque les m茅moires聽: elle se d茅roule en pr茅sence de Ursula Furgler, Raissa Gorbatchev et Nancy Reagan.</p> <p>Le Mus茅e ouvre ses portes au public le 29 octobre 1988. Il est dirig茅 par son fondateur Laurent Marti jusqu鈥檈n 1994. Didier Helg, puis Christine M眉ller et Roger Mayou, nomm茅 en 1998, lui succ猫dent.</p> <p>Roger Mayou agrandit le mus茅e et en dirige une refonte compl猫te.
