Therefore he went and washed, and came seeing. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Therefore the neighbors and those having seen him before, that he was a beggar, were saying, “Is this not he who was sitting and begging?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Some were saying, “It is he,” but others, were saying, “No, but he is like him.”</p><p class="reg"> He kept saying, “I am <i>he</i>.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Therefore they were saying to him, “How then were your eyes opened?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>He answered, “The man called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and He said to me, <span class="red">‘Go to Siloam and wash.’</span> Therefore having gone and having washed, I received sight.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And they said to him, “Where is He?”</p><p class="reg"> He says, “I do not know.” </p><p class="hdg">The Pharisees Investigate the Healing</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>They bring him who once <i>was</i> blind to the Pharisees. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now <i>the</i> day in which Jesus had made the clay and opened his eyes was a Sabbath. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Therefore the Pharisees also were asking him again how he had received sight.</p><p class="reg"> And he said to them, “He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Therefore some of the Pharisees were saying, “This man is not from God, for He does not keep the Sabbath.”</p><p class="reg"> But others were saying, “How is a sinful man able to do such signs?”</p><p class="reg"> And there was division among them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Therefore they say again to the blind <i>man</i>, “What do you say concerning Him, for He opened your eyes?”</p><p class="reg"> And he said, “He is a prophet.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Therefore the Jews did not believe concerning him that he had been blind and had received sight, until they called the parents of him having received sight. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And they asked them, saying, “Is this your son, of whom you say that he was born blind? Then how presently does he see?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Therefore his parents answered and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But how he sees presently, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him. He has age. He will speak concerning himself.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews already had agreed together that if anyone should confess Him Christ, he would be expelled from the synagogue. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Because of this, his parents said, “He has age. Ask him.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Therefore they called out a second time the man who had been blind, and said to him, “Give glory to God! We know that this man is a sinner.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then he answered, “Whether He is a sinner I do not know. One <i>thing</i> I do know, that being blind, now I see.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>So they said to him, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>He answered them, “I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you wish to hear again? Do you wish to become His disciples also?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And they railed at him and said, “You are a disciple of that One, but we are disciples of Moses. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know from where this <i>man</i> is.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>The man answered and said to them, “In this indeed is an amazing thing, that you do not know from where He is, and yet He opened my eyes. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>We know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Never out of the age has it been heard that anyone opened <i>the</i> eyes of <i>one</i> having been born blind. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>If this <i>man</i> were not from God, He could do nothing.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>They answered and said to him, “You were born entirely in sins, and do you teach us?” And they cast him out. </p><p class="hdg">Spiritual Blindness</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him, He said, <span class="red">“Do you believe in the Son of Man?”</span><span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="BYZ and TR ‘the Son of God’">a</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>He answered and said, “And who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>Jesus said to him, <span class="red">“You have both seen Him, and He is the <i>One</i> speaking with you.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And he was saying, “I believe, Lord.” And he worshiped Him. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And Jesus said, <span class="red">“For judgment I came into this world, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.”</span><span class="fn"><a href="#fnb" title="Some manuscripts do not include ‘38 And he was saying... 39 Then Jesus said,’">b</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span><i>Some</i> of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things, and they said to Him, “Are we also blind?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, <span class="red">“If you were blind, you would have no sin.
