Afterwards, he went off the radar, Sin Chew Daily reported.<\/p>\r\r<p>His anxious family in Bentong, besides lodging a police report, had sought help from Bilut assemblyman Lee Chin Chen in hopes of enlisting the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia to help in locating Hu in Taiwan.<\/p>\r\r<p>When contacted, Lee confirmed that the office in Malaysia had responded to him at 8.30pm, verifying the news.<\/p>\r\r<p>In a twist, Taiwan's ETtoday News reported that the Yuanlin Police Substation in Changhua district apprehended a 31-year-old man named Hu, who had visited Taiwan as a tourist but was found to be involved in a scam group.<\/p>\r\r<p>Upon investigation, it was ascertained that Hu and the apprehended individual were the same person, leading to Hu's subsequent detention.<\/p>\r\r<p>The fraud incident occurred in December when a middle-aged woman in Changhua joined an online investment platform on social media, lured by the promise of hefty returns.<\/p>\r\r<p>After two in-person transactions amounting to NT$2.3mil (RM3.2mil), she realised she had been defrauded.<\/p>\r\r<p>On Dec 11, she made another in-person transaction with the scam group, handing over an additional NT$2mil (RM2.7mil). The police arrested a 31-year-old man named Hu at the scene.<\/p>\r\r<p>Hu claimed to be a Malaysian influencer visiting Taiwan for a holiday under the visa exemption policy.<\/p>\r\r<p>He had believed that he could earn money during his trip but was unaware that he had been ensnared in a scam.<\/p>\r\r<p>Following police questioning, the case was handed over to legal authorities under suspicions of fraud, money laundering, and breaches of banking laws. A request for Hu's detention was subsequently approved.<\/p>\r\r<p>Reportedly, upon confirming Hu's identity, Taiwanese police promptly informed the Malaysian authorities in Taiwan. Malaysia authorities have yet to comment on the case.<\/p>\r\r<p>Recently, Taiwanese media reported foreigners getting involved in new scam activities, in a role dubbed a 'driver'. This person is tasked with collecting cash that victims have been deceived into withdrawing from their bank accounts.<\/p>\r\r<p>The fraud operation typically involves a group that manipulates victims into parting with their money, and the 'driver' is dispatched to physically retrieve this cash from the victims. society.<\/p>\r\r<p>The IGP said police received both men on Wednesday from US authorities.<\/p>\r\r<p>\"They were grateful that they could return to Malaysia and eventually to their families,\" he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 18).<\/p>\r\r<p>\"They also stated their strong commitment to become progressive members of society.<\/p>\r\r<p>\"Everyone deserves a second chance and we will ensure they receive such an opportunity,\" he said.<\/p>\r\r<p>Earlier in 2024, the duo pleaded guilty to being accessories in the 2002 Bali bombings.<\/p>\r\r<p>Both were held for years in the secretive overseas network of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).<\/p>\r\r<p>In 2006, they were transferred to Guantanamo Bay to face trial in a special security court set up by former United States president George W. Bush after the Sept 11, 2001 attack.<\/p>\r\r<p>Also charged were Encep Nurjaman, also known as Hambali, from Indonesia.<\/p>\r\r<p>Hambali is currently facing a murder charge, terrorism and conspiracy in the 2002 and 2003 incidents and if found guilty could be sentenced to life imprisonment.<\/p>\r\r<p>In their plea statement, both Malaysians agreed to testify against Hambali, the former Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, saying he intended to pawn the victim's gold bracelet and earrings to pay for his way to watch a football match between Malaysia and Cambodia.<\/p>\r\r<p>This match, part of the Mitsubishi Electric Asean 2024 Cup, took place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Dec 8.<\/p>\r\r<p>The 26-year-old woman's decomposed body was discovered last Saturday in Tabuan Jaya in Kuching, Sarawak.<\/p>\r\r<p>\"The suspect confessed during questioning, revealing the motive behind the horrible crime.<\/p>\r\r<p>\"The suspect was desperate for cash to attend the football match in Cambodia,\" he said when contacted Wednesday (Dec 18), Sinar Harian reported.<\/p>\r\r<p>\"Following the confession to the murder, we believe we are nearing a resolution,\" he said.<\/p>\r\r<p>He added that the suspect also revealed where he disposed of the victim's body.<\/p>\r\r<p>During a follow-up inspection at the site, a drain near a rubbish dump in Tabuan Jaya, police found several new pieces of evidence, including clothes, teeth and hair.<\/p>\r\r<p>\"We revisited the site on Tuesday as the body was partially clothed. Our latest examination has brought new evidence to light,\" he added.<\/p>\r\r<p>He confirmed that the body was positively identified as Nurul Asikin Lan.<\/p>\r\r<p>The police previously received a report about the disappearance of Nurul Asikin Lan on Dec 5, after she was last seen leaving with an acquaintance.<\/p>\r\r<p>Unfortunately, the victim's family was unable to identify her remains due Wednesday (Dec 18).<\/p>\r\r<p>The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 am as the victim, Nurul Alya Fatnin Mohd Mawardzi, 22, and three of her friends were en route from Kuala Lumpur to the Sultan Mizan Teacher\u2019s Training Institute campus, Sinar Harian reported.<\/p>\r\r<p>Besides the Proton X50 the victim rode in, the accident involved three other vehicles, a Proton Saga and two Perodua Axias.<\/p>\r\r<p>The accident is believed to have involved 13 victims, including the trailer driver.<\/p>\r\r<p>Gua Musang District Police Chief, Supt Sik Choon Foo said preliminary investigations revealed that during the incident, a Volvo trailer driven by a 28-year-old man was travelling from Kuala Lipis, Pahang, towards Gua Musang.<\/p>\r\r<p>\u201cUpon reaching the location, the trailer driver lost control and collided with two cars, a Perodua Axia and a Proton Saga.<\/p>\r\r<p>\u201cThe trailer then struck the rear of another Perodua Axia and the Proton X50, which were parked on the left side of the road,\u201d he said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\r\r<p>He said the impact caused the Proton X50 driver to sustain head injuries, while the front passenger sustained minor injuries.<\/p>\r\r<p>He added that the rear left passenger suffered hip injuries, while the deceased was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\r\r<p>Supt Sik also mentioned that the Perodua Axia driver sustained serious head injuries and is receiving treatment at Gua Musang Hospital.<\/p>\r\r<p>Six other victims reportedly suffered minor injuries.<\/p>\r\r<p>\u201cThe case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death.<\/p>\r\r<p>\u201cMembers of the public with any information regarding the accident are urged to contact before our eyes.<\/p>\r\r<p>\"I was shocked and screamed for help for my two workers' children who were still inside the house to escape,\" she said on Wednesday.<\/p>\r\r<p>Asmalaili said they were BULOH: A nursery teacher who is suspected of abusing an 11-month old baby boy will be charged in court on Friday (Dec 20).<\/p>\r\r<p>Sungai Buloh district police chief Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said that the 24-year-old woman, who works as a nursery teacher in Puncak Alam, will be charged with assaulting and abusing the child.<\/p>\r\r<p>\"The remand for the nursery teacher will be extended until this Friday.
