of Experiments Method (DOE) can be put into use as a practical approach for silica sand etching behavior modeling during its primary step of leaching. In the present work, we have studied etching effect on particle size during a primary step of leaching process on Algerian silica sand with florid acid (HF) at 20% and 30 % during 4 and 8 hours. Therefore, a new purity of the sand is noted depending on the time of leaching. This study was expanded by a numerical approach using a method of experiment design, which shows the influence of each parameter and the interaction between them in the process and approved the obtained experimental results. This model is a predictive approach using hide software. Based on the measured parameters experimentally in the interior of the model, the use of DOE method can make it possible to predict the outside parameters of the model in question and can give us the optimize response without making the experimental measurement. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acid%20leaching" title="acid leaching">acid leaching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20of%20experiments%20method%28DOE%29" title=" design of experiments method(DOE)"> design of experiments method(DOE)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=purity%20silica" title=" purity silica"> purity silica</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silica%20etching" title=" silica etching"> silica etching</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46244/forecasting-etching-behavior-silica-sand-using-the-design-of-experiments-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46244.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">286</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> Study υ_4 Fundamental Band of 12 CD4 Molecule</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kaarour%20Abdelkrim">Kaarour Abdelkrim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ouardi%20Okkacha"> Ouardi Okkacha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meskine%20Mohamed"> Meskine Mohamed </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, the υ_4 fundamental band of 12CD4 molecule has been studied by infrared spectroscopy with high resolution. The finite volume model has been constructed, based on the Navier–Stokes equations and energy conservation equation for the description of momentum and heat transport phenomena, and the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method for free surface tracking. The Fresnel absorption model is used to handle the absorption of the incident wave by the surface of the liquid metal and the enthalpy-porosity technique is employed to account for the latent heat during melting and solidification of the material. To model the physical phenomena occurring at the liquid film/gas interface, including momentum/heat transfer, a new approach is proposed which consists of treating friction force, pressure force applied by the gas jet and the heat absorbed by the cutting front surface as source terms incorporated into the governing equations. All these physics are coupled and solved simultaneously in Fluent CFD®. The main objective of using a transient phase change model in the current case is to simulate the dynamics and geometry of a growing laser-cutting generated kerf until it becomes fully developed. The model is used to investigate the effect of some process parameters on temperature fields and the formed kerf geometry. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=laser%20cutting" title="laser cutting">laser cutting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=numerical%20simulation" title=" numerical simulation"> numerical simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20transfer" title=" heat transfer"> heat transfer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluid%20flow" title=" fluid flow"> fluid flow</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14414/numerical-simulation-of-transient-3d-temperature-and-kerf-formation-in-laser-fusion-cutting" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14414.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">339</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> Three-Level Converters Back-To-Back DC Bus Control for Torque Ripple Reduction of Induction Motor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T.%20Abdelkrim">T. A particular feature in our proposition is the profiles that are used not only to describe the context’s elements but also the components itself. This paper is dedicated to a damage investigation under two block loading cycle fatigue conditions submitted to composite material. The loading sequence effect and the influence of the cycle ratio of the first stage on the cumulative fatigue life were studied herein. Therefore, railway inspection is an important task in railway maintenance to ensure safety for passengers using significant means in personal and technical facilities. Artificial vision has recently been applied to several railway applications due to its potential to improve the efficiency and accuracy when analyzing large databases of acquired images. In this paper, we present a vision system able to detect fastening elements based on artificial vision approach. This system acquires railway images using a CCD camera installed under a control carriage. These images are stitched together before having processed. Experimental results are presented to show that the proposed method is robust for detection fasteners in a complex environment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computer%20vision" title="computer vision">computer vision</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20processing" title=" image processing"> image processing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20inspection" title=" railway inspection"> railway inspection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20stitching" title=" image stitching"> image stitching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fastener%20recognition" title=" fastener recognition"> fastener recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20network" title=" neural network"> neural network</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38749/inspection-of-railway-track-fastening-elements-using-artificial-vision" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38749.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">455</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">22</span> Impact of the Xanthan Gum on Rheological Properties of Ceramic Slip</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Souad%20%20Hassene%20Daouadji">Souad Hassene Daouadji</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Larbi%20%20Hammadi"> Larbi Hammadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20%20Hazzab"> Abdelkrim Hazzab</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The slips intended for the manufacture of ceramics must have rheological properties well-defined in order to bring together the qualities required for the casting step (good fluidity for feeding the molds easily settles while generating a regular settling of the dough and for the dehydration phase of the dough in the mold a setting time relatively short is required to have a sufficient refinement which allows demolding both easy and fast). The effects of the uniaxial anisotropy and the loss tangent on resonant frequencies of microstrip patches consist of two perfectly conducting rectangular patches in stacked and offset configuration, embedded in a bilayer medium containing isotropic or uniaxial anisotropic materials. The Green’s functions are discussed in detail and numerical results are validated by comparing the computed results with previously published data. The numerical results show, that the uniaxial anisotropy has more effects on resonant frequencies according to the optical axis. However, the loss tangent of dielectric substrates has almost no effect on resonant frequencies, but it strongly affects the imaginary parts of the resonant frequencies of the antenna. The dielectric constant has no effect on the separation in terms of frequencies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resonant%20frequencies" title="resonant frequencies">resonant frequencies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=loss%20tangent" title=" loss tangent"> loss tangent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microstrip%20patches" title=" microstrip patches"> microstrip patches</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stacked" title=" stacked"> stacked</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anisotropic%20materials" title=" anisotropic materials"> anisotropic materials</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20axis" title=" optical axis"> optical axis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28849/the-effects-of-the-uniaxial-anisotropy-and-the-loss-tangent-on-the-resonant-frequencies-in-stacked-rectangular-patches-configuration" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28849.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">434</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">20</span> Handwriting Velocity Modeling by Artificial Neural Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Aymen%20Slim">Mohamed Aymen Slim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afef%20Abdelkrim"> Afef Abdelkrim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Benrejeb"> Mohamed Benrejeb</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The handwriting is a physical demonstration of a complex cognitive process learnt by man since his childhood. People with disabilities or suffering from various neurological diseases are facing so many difficulties resulting from problems located at the muscle stimuli (EMG) or signals from the brain (EEG) and which arise at the stage of writing. The handwriting velocity of the same writer or different writers varies according to different criteria: age, attitude, mood, writing surface, etc. Therefore, it is interesting to reconstruct an experimental basis records taking, as primary reference, the writing speed for different writers which would allow studying the global system during handwriting process. This paper deals with a new approach of the handwriting system modeling based on the velocity criterion through the concepts of artificial neural networks, precisely the Radial Basis Functions (RBF) neural networks. The obtained simulation results show a satisfactory agreement between responses of the developed neural model and the experimental data for various letters and forms then the efficiency of the proposed approaches. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Electro%20Myo%20Graphic%20%28EMG%29%20signals" title="Electro Myo Graphic (EMG) signals">Electro Myo Graphic (EMG) signals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=experimental%20approach" title=" experimental approach"> experimental approach</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=handwriting%20process" title=" handwriting process"> handwriting process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Radial%20Basis%20Functions%20%28RBF%29%20neural%20networks" title=" Radial Basis Functions (RBF) neural networks"> Radial Basis Functions (RBF) neural networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=velocity%20modeling" title=" velocity modeling"> velocity modeling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10496/handwriting-velocity-modeling-by-artificial-neural-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10496.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">440</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19</span> Automatic Thresholding for Data Gap Detection for a Set of Sensors in Instrumented Buildings</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Houda%20Najeh">Houda Najeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=St%C3%A9phane%20Ploix"> Stéphane Ploix</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahendra%20Pratap%20Singh"> Mahendra Pratap Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karim%20Chabir"> Karim Chabir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Naceur%20Abdelkrim"> Mohamed Naceur Abdelkrim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Building systems are highly vulnerable to different kinds of faults and failures. In fact, various faults, failures and human behaviors could affect the building performance. This paper tackles the detection of unreliable sensors in buildings. Different literature surveys on diagnosis techniques for sensor grids in buildings have been published but all of them treat only bias and outliers. Occurences of data gaps have also not been given an adequate span of attention in the academia. The proposed methodology comprises the automatic thresholding for data gap detection for a set of heterogeneous sensors in instrumented buildings. Sensor measurements are considered to be regular time series. However, in reality, sensor values are not uniformly sampled. So, the issue to solve is from which delay each sensor become faulty? The use of time series is required for detection of abnormalities on the delays. The efficiency of the method is evaluated on measurements obtained from a real power plant: an office at Grenoble Institute of technology equipped by 30 sensors. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20system" title="building system">building system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time%20series" title=" time series"> time series</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diagnosis" title=" diagnosis"> diagnosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=outliers" title=" outliers"> outliers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=delay" title=" delay"> delay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20gap" title=" data gap"> data gap</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97880/automatic-thresholding-for-data-gap-detection-for-a-set-of-sensors-in-instrumented-buildings" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97880.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">245</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> Antioxidant Activity of Launaea nudicaulis Growing in Southwest of Algeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Cheriti">Abdelkrim Cheriti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mebarka%20Belboukhari"> Mebarka Belboukhari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nasser%20Belboukhari"> Nasser Belboukhari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Launaea Cass. is a small genus of the family Asteraceae (tribe Lactuceae, subtribe Sonchinae), consisting of 54 species, of which 9 are presented in the flora of Algeria and is mainly distributed in the South Mediterranean, Africa and SW Asia. Plants in the Launaea genus have been used ethnobotanically as bitter stomachic, for treating diarrhea, gastrointestinal tracts, as anti-inflammatory, for skin diseases, treatment of infected wounds, hepatic pains, children fever, as soporific, lactagogue, diuretic and as insecticidal. Antioxidants are vital substances, which possess the ability to protect the body from damages caused by free radical induced oxidative stress. A variety of free radical scavenging antioxidants is found in a number of dietary sources. The main objective of this study focused on the screening of antioxidant activity of Launaea nudicaulis (Asteraceae) extracts. The in vitro antioxidant activity was investigated with DPPH radical scavenging assay. The quantitative evaluation of DPPH scavenging activity showed that n-BuOH and EtOAc extracts are the most active extracts with a percentage of antiradical activity of 89,62% and 71,57% respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Launaea" title="Launaea">Launaea</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phytochemical" title=" phytochemical"> phytochemical</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=South%20Algeria" title=" South Algeria"> South Algeria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sahara" title=" Sahara"> Sahara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=endemic%20specie" title=" endemic specie"> endemic specie</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14299/antioxidant-activity-of-launaea-nudicaulis-growing-in-southwest-of-algeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14299.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">441</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">17</span> Physico-chemical and Biological Characterization of Urban Municipal Landfill Leachate and Treatment by Ozone Process</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ramdani%20Nadia">Ramdani Nadia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kheddaoui%20Abdelkrim"> Kheddaoui Abdelkrim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nemmich%20Said"> Nemmich Said</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tilmatine%20Amar"> Tilmatine Amar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The waste production nationwide is increasing every year, on account of therapid urbanization and growing populations, also consumption modes. Algerian political authorities have chosen Technical Landfill Centres (TLC) as a competitive and safe technique of waste management. However, storing these wastes in a bad way poses several environmental challenges, especially in the Department of Saïda, the latter have significant groundwaters. The major problem registered on this Landfill is the leachate resulting from the degradation of buried wastes which were disposed off the outside of the leachate basin and present a source of pollution for the local groundwaters by heavy metals and pathogenic germs. The present paper investigates the leachate treatment ozone process produced by Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) under high potential. The experimental results obtained allowed us to show the efficiency of the treatment process by ozone based on the micro pollutant analysis (DCO, DBO5 , COT, heavy metals) and microbial analysis, after ozonation treatment. The results show that 80% of micro pollutants are eliminated and 100% destruction of all bacteria which reveals the high efficiency of the process. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=landfill" title="landfill">landfill</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leachate" title=" leachate"> leachate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=treatment" title=" treatment"> treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ozone" title=" ozone"> ozone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polluants" title=" polluants"> polluants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bacteria" title=" bacteria"> bacteria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micropolluant" title=" micropolluant"> micropolluant</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192436/physico-chemical-and-biological-characterization-of-urban-municipal-landfill-leachate-and-treatment-by-ozone-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192436.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">22</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16</span> Contribution to the Study of Some Phytochemicals and Biological Aspects of Artemisia absinthium L</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sihem%20Benmimoune">Sihem Benmimoune</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelbaki%20Lemgharbi"> Abdelbaki Lemgharbi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Ait%20Yahia"> Ahmed Ait Yahia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Kameli"> Abdelkrim Kameli </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Our study is based on chemical and phytochemical characterization of Artemisia absinthium L and in vitro tests to demonstrate the biological activities of essential oil and natural extract. A qualitative and quantitative comparison of the essential oil extracted by two extraction procedures was performed by analysis of CG/SM and the yield calculation. The method of hydrodistillation has a chemical composition and provides oil content than the best training water vapor. These oils are composed mainly of thujone followed chamazulene and ρ-cymene. The antimicrobial activity of wormwood oil was tested in vitro by two methods (agar diffusion and microdilution) on four plant pathogenic fungi (Aspergillus sp, Botrytis cinerea, Fusarium culmorum and Helminthosporium sp). The study of the antifungal effect showed that this oil has an inhibitory effect counterpart the microorganisms tested in particular the strain Botrytis cinerea. Otherwise, this activity depends on the nature of the oil and the germ itself. The antioxidant activity in vitro was studied with the DPPH method. The activity test shows that the oil and extract of Artemisia absinthium have a very low antioxidant capacity compared to the antioxidants used as a reference. The extract has a potentially high antiradical power not from its oil. The quantitative determinations of phenolic compounds by the Folin-Ciocalteu revealed that absinthe is low in total polyphenols and tannins. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artemisia%20absinthium" title="artemisia absinthium">artemisia absinthium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biological%20activities" title=" biological activities"> biological activities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=essential%20oil" title=" essential oil"> essential oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=extraction%20processes" title=" extraction processes"> extraction processes</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39726/contribution-to-the-study-of-some-phytochemicals-and-biological-aspects-of-artemisia-absinthium-l" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39726.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">341</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15</span> Entomological Study of Pests of Olive Trees in the Region of Batna - Algeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Smail%20Chafaa">Smail Chafaa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Si%20Bachir"> Abdelkrim Si Bachir</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Our work aims to study the insect diversity based on bioclimatic levels of pests in olive cultures (Olea europea L.) in the area of Batna (arid and semi arid north eastern Algeria) during the period from January 2011 to May 2011. Several sampling techniques were used, those of hunting on sight, visual inspection, hatches traps, colored traps, Japanese umbrella and sweep net. We have identified in total, 2311 individuals with results in inventory 206 species divided to 74 families and 11 orders, including Coleoptera order is quantitatively the most represented with 47.1%. The most dominant diet in our inventory is the phytophagous. Between the herbivorous insects that we have listed and which are the main olive pest of olive cultivation; we quote the olive fly (Bactrocera oleae), cochineal purple olive (Parlatoria oleae) the psyllid olive (Euphyllura olivina) and olive Trips (Liothrips oleae). The distribution of species between stations shows that Boumia resort with the most number of species (113) compared to other resorts and beetles are also better represented in three groves. Total wealth is high in Boumia station compared with the others stations. The values of (H') exceeding 3.9 bits for all the stations studied indicate a specific wealth and diversity of ecological nests in insect species. The values of equitability are near the unit; that suggests a balance between the numbers of insect populations sampled in the various stations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=entomology" title="entomology">entomology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=olive" title=" olive"> olive</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grove" title=" grove"> grove</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=batna" title=" batna"> batna</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Algeria" title=" Algeria"> Algeria</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32370/entomological-study-of-pests-of-olive-trees-in-the-region-of-batna-algeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32370.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">343</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> Preparation and Characterization of Phosphate-Nickel-Titanium Composite Coating Obtained by Sol Gel Process for Corrosion Protection</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khalidou%20Ba">Khalidou Ba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Chahine"> Abdelkrim Chahine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Ebn%20Touhami"> Mohamed Ebn Touhami</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A strong industrial interest is focused on the development of coatings for anticorrosion protection. In this context, phosphate composite materials are expanding strongly due to their chemical characteristics and their interesting physicochemical properties. Sol-gel coatings offer high homogeneity and purity that may lead to obtain coating presenting good adhesion to metal surface. The goal behind this work is to develop efficient coatings for corrosion protection of steel to extend its life. In this context, a sol gel process allowing to obtain thin film coatings on carbon steel with high resistance to corrosion has been developed. The optimization of several experimental parameters such as the hydrolysis time, the temperature, the coating technique, the molar ratio between precursors, the number of layers and the drying mode has been realized in order to obtain a coating showing the best anti-corrosion properties. The effect of these parameters on the microstructure and anticorrosion performance of the films sol gel coating has been investigated using different characterization methods (FTIR, XRD, Raman, XPS, SEM, Profilometer, Salt Spray Test, etc.). An optimized coating presenting good adhesion and very stable anticorrosion properties in salt spray test, which consists of a corrosive attack accelerated by an artificial salt spray consisting of a solution of 5% NaCl, pH neutral, under precise conditions of temperature (35 °C) and pressure has been obtained. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sol%20gel" title="sol gel">sol gel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coating" title=" coating"> coating</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corrosion" title=" corrosion"> corrosion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=XPS" title=" XPS "> XPS </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119806/preparation-and-characterization-of-phosphate-nickel-titanium-composite-coating-obtained-by-sol-gel-process-for-corrosion-protection" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119806.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">128</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13</span> Performing Diagnosis in Building with Partially Valid Heterogeneous Tests</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Houda%20Najeh">Houda Najeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahendra%20Pratap%20Singh"> Mahendra Pratap Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=St%C3%A9phane%20Ploix"> Stéphane Ploix</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Antoine%20Caucheteux"> Antoine Caucheteux</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karim%20Chabir"> Karim Chabir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Naceur%20Abdelkrim"> Mohamed Naceur Abdelkrim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Building system is highly vulnerable to different kinds of faults and human misbehaviors. Energy efficiency and user comfort are directly targeted due to abnormalities in building operation. The available fault diagnosis tools and methodologies particularly rely on rules or pure model-based approaches. It is assumed that model or rule-based test could be applied to any situation without taking into account actual testing contexts. Contextual tests with validity domain could reduce a lot of the design of detection tests. The main objective of this paper is to consider fault validity when validate the test model considering the non-modeled events such as occupancy, weather conditions, door and window openings and the integration of the knowledge of the expert on the state of the system. The concept of heterogeneous tests is combined with test validity to generate fault diagnoses. A combination of rules, range and model-based tests known as heterogeneous tests are proposed to reduce the modeling complexity. Calculation of logical diagnoses coming from artificial intelligence provides a global explanation consistent with the test result. An application example shows the efficiency of the proposed technique: an office setting at Grenoble Institute of Technology. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heterogeneous%20tests" title="heterogeneous tests">heterogeneous tests</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=validity" title=" validity"> validity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20system" title=" building system"> building system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensor%20grids" title=" sensor grids"> sensor grids</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensor%20fault" title=" sensor fault"> sensor fault</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diagnosis" title=" diagnosis"> diagnosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fault%20detection%20and%20isolation" title=" fault detection and isolation"> fault detection and isolation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100728/performing-diagnosis-in-building-with-partially-valid-heterogeneous-tests" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100728.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">294</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Molluscicidal Activity of Some Aqueous and Organic Extract from Some Asteraceae</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lineda%20Rouissat-Dahane">Lineda Rouissat-Dahane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Cheriti"> Abdelkrim Cheriti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abbderazak%20Marouf"> Abbderazak Marouf</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reddy%20Kandappa%20H."> Reddy Kandappa H.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Govender%20Patrick"> Govender Patrick</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Natural phytochemicals extracted from folk herbal have drawn much attention in complementary and alternative medicine, and the plant kingdom is considered for developing new molluscicide. On the other hand, the ethnopharmacology investigation remains the principal way to improve, evaluate, and finding bioactive substances derived from medicinal plants. In continuation of our works in Saharan ethpharmacopeae and phytochemistry of Saharan medicinal plants, we focus our attention on the importance of local ethnopharmacology especially to treat gastro-intestinal disorders in the south west of Algeria (El Baydh, Naama and Bechar region) as platform for bioactive substances discovery and further development. Our present investigation deals with an ethnopharmacological study on medicinal plants used for the treatment of gastro-intestinal disorders in the south west of Algeria. The study presents the uses of plants in local traditional herbal medicines, determines the homogeneity of informant traditional knowledge and the preferred medicinal plants used to treat gastro-intestinal disorders. The results indicated that Asteraceae and Lamiaceae are the most locally used families and medicines were prepared in the form of powder or infusion and used orally. Aerial parts were the most frequently used plant part. Thus, the results can be used as platform for bioactive substances discovery and further development especially for the preferred plant species used in the treatment of gastro-intestinal disorders. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethnopharmacology" title="ethnopharmacology">ethnopharmacology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gastro-intestinal" title=" gastro-intestinal"> gastro-intestinal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phytochemical" title=" phytochemical"> phytochemical</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=South%20Algeria" title=" South Algeria"> South Algeria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sahara" title=" Sahara"> Sahara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=endemic%20species" title=" endemic species"> endemic species</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14303/ethnopharmacological-survey-of-medicinal-plants-used-in-southwest-algeria-to-treat-gastro-intestinal-ailments" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14303.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">294</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">10</span> Nitric Oxide and Blood Based Ratios as Promising Immuno-Markers in Patients with Complicated Crohn’s Disease: Benefits for Predicting Therapy Response</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Imene%20Soufli">Imene Soufli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Hablal"> Abdelkrim Hablal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manel%20Amri"> Manel Amri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Moussa%20Labsi"> Moussa Labsi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rania%20Sihem%20Boussa"> Rania Sihem Boussa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nassim%20Sid%20Idris"> Nassim Sid Idris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chafia%20Touil-Boukoffa"> Chafia Touil-Boukoffa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Crohn’s Disease (CD) is a relapsing–remitting inflammatory bowel disease with a progressive course. The aim of our study was to evaluate the relationship between the immunomarkers: Nitric Oxide (NO), pro-inflammatory cytokines, and blood count-based ratios and the outcome of corticosteroid or anti-TNF-α therapy in patients with complicated Crohn’s Disease. In this context, we evaluated the NLR as the ratio of neutrophil count to lymphocyte count, PLR as the ratio of platelet counts to lymphocyte count, and MLR as the ratio of monocyte count to lymphocyte count in patients and controls. Furthermore, we assessed NO production by the Griess method in plasma along with iNOS and NF-κB expression by immunofluorescence method in intestinal tissues of patients and controls. In the same way, we evaluated plasma TNF-α, IL-17A, and IL-10 levels using ELISA. Our results indicate that blood count-based ratios NLR, PLR, and MLR were significantly higher in patients compared to controls. In addition, increased systemic levels of NO, TNF-α, and IL-17A and colonic expression of iNOS and NF-κB were observed in the same patients. Interestingly, the high ratio of NLR and MLR, as well as NO production, was significantly decreased in treated patients. Collectively, our findings suggest that Nitric Oxide, as well as the blood count-based ratios (NLR, PLR, MLR), could constitute useful immuno-markers in complicated Crohn’s Disease, predicting the response to treatment <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=complicated%20crohn%E2%80%99s%20disease" title="complicated crohn’s disease">complicated crohn’s disease</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nitric%20oxide" title=" nitric oxide"> nitric oxide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blood%20count-based%20ratios" title=" blood count-based ratios"> blood count-based ratios</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=treatments" title=" treatments"> treatments</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pro-inflammatory%20cytokines" title=" pro-inflammatory cytokines"> pro-inflammatory cytokines</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168994/nitric-oxide-and-blood-based-ratios-as-promising-immuno-markers-in-patients-with-complicated-crohns-disease-benefits-for-predicting-therapy-response" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168994.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">79</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9</span> Fatigue Life Prediction under Variable Loading Based a Non-Linear Energy Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aid%20Abdelkrim">Aid Abdelkrim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A method of fatigue damage accumulation based upon application of energy parameters of the fatigue process is proposed in the paper. Using this model is simple, it has no parameter to be determined, it requires only the knowledge of the curve W–N (W: strain energy density N: number of cycles at failure) determined from the experimental Wöhler curve. To examine the performance of nonlinear models proposed in the estimation of fatigue damage and fatigue life of components under random loading, a batch of specimens made of 6082 T 6 aluminium alloy has been studied and some of the results are reported in the present paper. The paper describes an algorithm and suggests a fatigue cumulative damage model, especially when random loading is considered. This work contains the results of uni-axial random load fatigue tests with different mean and amplitude values performed on 6082T6 aluminium alloy specimens. The proposed model has been formulated to take into account the damage evolution at different load levels and it allows the effect of the loading sequence to be included by means of a recurrence formula derived for multilevel loading, considering complex load sequences. It is concluded that a ‘damaged stress interaction damage rule’ proposed here allows a better fatigue damage prediction than the widely used Palmgren–Miner rule, and a formula derived in random fatigue could be used to predict the fatigue damage and fatigue lifetime very easily. The results obtained by the model are compared with the experimental results and those calculated by the most fatigue damage model used in fatigue (Miner’s model). The comparison shows that the proposed model, presents a good estimation of the experimental results. Moreover, the error is minimized in comparison to the Miner’s model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damage%20accumulation" title="damage accumulation">damage accumulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20model" title=" energy model"> energy model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damage%20indicator" title=" damage indicator"> damage indicator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variable%20loading" title=" variable loading"> variable loading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20loading" title=" random loading"> random loading</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15957/fatigue-life-prediction-under-variable-loading-based-a-non-linear-energy-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15957.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">396</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> Integration of an Augmented Reality System for the Visualization of the HRMAS NMR Analysis of Brain Biopsy Specimens Using the Brainlab Cranial Navigation System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Belhaoua">Abdelkrim Belhaoua</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean-Pierre%20Radoux"> Jean-Pierre Radoux</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mariana%20Kuras"> Mariana Kuras</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vincent%20R%C3%A9camier"> Vincent Récamier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Martial%20Piotto"> Martial Piotto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karim%20Elbayed"> Karim Elbayed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fran%C3%A7ois%20Proust"> François Proust</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Izzie%20Namer"> Izzie Namer</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper proposes an augmented reality system dedicated to neurosurgery in order to assist the surgeon during an operation. This work is part of the ExtempoRMN project (Funded by Bpifrance) which aims at analyzing during a surgical operation the metabolic content of tumoral brain biopsy specimens by HRMAS NMR. Patients affected with a brain tumor (gliomas) frequently need to undergo an operation in order to remove the tumoral mass. During the operation, the neurosurgeon removes biopsy specimens using image-guided surgery. The biopsy specimens removed are then sent for HRMAS NMR analysis in order to obtain a better diagnosis and prognosis. Image-guided refers to the use of MRI images and a computer to precisely locate and target a lesion (abnormal tissue) within the brain. This is performed using preoperative MRI images and the BrainLab neuro-navigation system. With the patient MRI images loaded on the Brainlab Cranial neuro-navigation system in the operating theater, surgeons can better identify their approach before making an incision. The Brainlab neuro-navigation tool tracks in real time the position of the instruments and displays their position on the patient MRI data. The results of the biopsy analysis by 1H HRMAS NMR are then sent back to the operating theater and superimposed on the 3D localization system directly on the MRI images. The method we have developed to communicate between the HRMAS NMR analysis software and Brainlab makes use of a combination of C++, VTK and the Insight Toolkit using OpenIGTLink protocol. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neuro-navigation" title="neuro-navigation">neuro-navigation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=augmented%20reality" title=" augmented reality"> augmented reality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biopsy" title=" biopsy"> biopsy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BrainLab" title=" BrainLab"> BrainLab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HR-MAS%20NMR" title=" HR-MAS NMR"> HR-MAS NMR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57089/integration-of-an-augmented-reality-system-for-the-visualization-of-the-hrmas-nmr-analysis-of-brain-biopsy-specimens-using-the-brainlab-cranial-navigation-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57089.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">363</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">7</span> Study of Synergetic Effect by Combining Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) Plasma and Photocatalysis for Abatement of Pollutants in Air Mixture System: Influence of Some Operating Conditions and Identification of Byproducts</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wala%20Abou%20Saoud">Wala Abou Saoud</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aymen%20Amine%20Assadi"> Aymen Amine Assadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monia%20%20Guiza"> Monia Guiza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Bouzaza"> Abdelkrim Bouzaza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wael%20Aboussaoud"> Wael Aboussaoud</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelmottaleb%20Ouederni"> Abdelmottaleb Ouederni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dominique%20Wolbert"> Dominique Wolbert</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) constitute one of the most important families of chemicals involved in atmospheric pollution, causing damage to the environment and human health, and need, consequently, to be eliminated. Among the promising technologies, dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma - photocatalysis coupling reveals very interesting prospects in terms of process synergy of compounds mineralization’s, with low energy consumption. In this study, the removal of organic compounds such butyraldehyde (BUTY) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) (exhaust gasses from animal quartering centers.) in air mixture using DBD plasma coupled with photocatalysis was tested, in order to determine whether or not synergy effect was present. The removal efficiency of these pollutants, a selectivity of CO₂ and CO, and byproducts formation such as ozone formation were investigated in order to evaluate the performance of the combined process. For this purpose, a series of experiments were carried out in a continuous reactor. Many operating parameters were also investigated such as the specific energy of discharge, the inlet concentration of pollutant and the flowrate. It appears from this study that, the performance of the process has enhanced and a synergetic effect is observed. In fact, we note an enhancement of 10 % on removal efficiency. It is interesting to note that the combined system leads to better CO₂ selectivity than for plasma. Consequently, intermediates by-products have been reduced due to various other species (O•, N, OH•, O₂•-, O₃, NO₂, NOx, etc.). Additionally, the behavior of combining DBD plasma and photocatalysis has shown that the ozone can be easily also decomposed in presence of photocatalyst. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=combined%20process" title="combined process">combined process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DBD%20plasma" title=" DBD plasma"> DBD plasma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photocatalysis" title=" photocatalysis"> photocatalysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pilot%20scale" title=" pilot scale"> pilot scale</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synergetic%20effect" title=" synergetic effect"> synergetic effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VOCs" title=" VOCs"> VOCs</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64386/study-of-synergetic-effect-by-combining-dielectric-barrier-discharge-dbd-plasma-and-photocatalysis-for-abatement-of-pollutants-in-air-mixture-system-influence-of-some-operating-conditions-and-identification-of-byproducts" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64386.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">330</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Chemical Warfare Agent Simulant by Photocatalytic Filtering Reactor: Effect of Operating Parameters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Youcef%20Serhane">Youcef Serhane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Bouzaza"> Abdelkrim Bouzaza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dominique%20Wolbert"> Dominique Wolbert</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aymen%20Amin%20Assadi"> Aymen Amin Assadi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Throughout history, the use of chemical weapons is not exclusive to combats between army corps; some of these weapons are also found in very targeted intelligence operations (political assassinations), organized crime, and terrorist organizations. To improve the speed of action, important technological devices have been developed in recent years, in particular in the field of protection and decontamination techniques to better protect and neutralize a chemical threat. In order to assess certain protective, decontaminating technologies or to improve medical countermeasures, tests must be conducted. In view of the great toxicity of toxic chemical agents from (real) wars, simulants can be used, chosen according to the desired application. Here, we present an investigation about using a photocatalytic filtering reactor (PFR) for highly contaminated environments containing diethyl sulfide (DES). This target pollutant is used as a simulant of CWA, namely of Yperite (Mustard Gas). The influence of the inlet concentration (until high concentrations of DES (1200 ppmv, i.e., 5 g/m³ of air) has been studied. Also, the conversion rate was monitored under different relative humidity and different flow rates (respiratory flow - standards: ISO / DIS 8996 and NF EN 14387 + A1). In order to understand the efficacity of pollutant neutralization by PFR, a kinetic model based on the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L–H) approach and taking into account the mass transfer step was developed. This allows us to determine the adsorption and kinetic degradation constants with no influence of mass transfer. The obtained results confirm that this small configuration of reactor presents an extremely promising way for the use of photocatalysis for treatment to deal with highly contaminated environments containing real chemical warfare agents. Also, they can give birth to an individual protection device (an autonomous cartridge for a gas mask). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photocatalysis" title="photocatalysis">photocatalysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photocatalytic%20filtering%20reactor" title=" photocatalytic filtering reactor"> photocatalytic filtering reactor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diethylsulfide" title=" diethylsulfide"> diethylsulfide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20warfare%20agents" title=" chemical warfare agents"> chemical warfare agents</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124989/chemical-warfare-agent-simulant-by-photocatalytic-filtering-reactor-effect-of-operating-parameters" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124989.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">105</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Geopolymerization Methods for Clay Soils Treatment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Baba%20Hassane%20Ahmed%20Hisseini">Baba Hassane Ahmed Hisseini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Bennabi"> Abdelkrim Bennabi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rabah%20Hamzaoui"> Rabah Hamzaoui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lamis%20Makki"> Lamis Makki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gaetan%20Blanck"> Gaetan Blanck</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Most of the clay soils are known as problematic soils due to their water content, which varies greatly over time. It is observed that they are used to be subject to shrinkage and swelling, thus causing a problem of stability on the structures of civil engineering construction work. They are often excavated and placed in a storage area giving rise to the opening of new quarries. This method has become obsolete today because to protect the environment, we are leading to think differently and opening the way to new research for the improvement of the performance of this type of clay soils to reuse them in the construction field. The solidification and stabilization technique is used to improve the properties of poor quality soils to transform them into materials with a suitable performance for a new use in the civil engineering field rather than to excavate them and store them in the discharge area. In our case, the polymerization method is used for bad clay soils classified as high plasticity soil class A4 according to the French standard NF P11-300, where classical treatment methods with cement or lime are not efficient. Our work concerns clay soil treatment study using raw materials as additives for solidification and stabilization. The geopolymers are synthesized by aluminosilicates materials like fly ash, metakaolin, or blast furnace slag and activated by alkaline solution based on sodium hydroxide (NaOH), sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) or a mixture of both of them. In this study, we present the mechanical properties of the soil clay (A4 type) evolution with geopolymerisation methods treatment. Various mix design of aluminosilicates materials and alkaline solutions were carried at different percentages and different curing times of 1, 7, and 28 days. The compressive strength of the untreated clayey soil could be increased from simple to triple. It is observed that the improvement of compressive strength is associated with a geopolymerization mechanism. The highest compressive strength was found with metakaolin at 28 days. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=treatment%20and%20valorization%20of%20clay-soil" title="treatment and valorization of clay-soil">treatment and valorization of clay-soil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solidification%20and%20stabilization" title=" solidification and stabilization"> solidification and stabilization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alkali-activation%20of%20co-product" title=" alkali-activation of co-product"> alkali-activation of co-product</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geopolymerization" title=" geopolymerization"> geopolymerization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112401/geopolymerization-methods-for-clay-soils-treatment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112401.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">161</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Increased Expression Levels of Soluble Epoxide Hydrolase in Obese and Its Modulation by Physical Exercise</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Khadir">Abdelkrim Khadir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sina%20Kavalakatt"> Sina Kavalakatt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Preethi%20Cherian"> Preethi Cherian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Tiss"> Ali Tiss</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) is an emerging therapeutic target in several chronic states that have inflammation as a common underlying cause such as immunometabolic diseases. Indeed, sEH is known to play a pro-inflammatory role by metabolizing anti-inflammatory, epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) to pro-inflammatory diols. Recently, it was shown sEH to be linked to diet and microbiota interaction in rat models of obesity. Nevertheless, the functional contribution of sEH and its anti-inflammatory substrates EETs in obesity remain poorly understood. In the current study, we compared the expression pattern of sEH between lean and obese nondiabetic human subjects using subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Using RT-PCR, western blot and immunofluorescence confocal microscopy, we show here that the level of sEH mRNA and protein to be significantly increased in obese subjects with concomitant increase in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress components (GRP78 and ATF6α) and inflammatory markers (TNF-α, IL-6) when compared to lean controls. The observation that sEH was overexpressed in obese subjects’ prompt us to investigate whether physical exercise could reduce its expression. In this study, we report here 3-months supervised physical exercise significantly attenuated the expression of sEH in both the SAT and PBMCs, with a parallel decrease in the expression of ER stress markers along with attenuated inflammatory response. On the other hand, homocysteine, a sulfur containing amino acid deriving from the essential amino acid methionine was shown to be directly associated with insulin resistance. When 3T3-L1 preadipocytes cells were treated with homocysteine our results show increased sEH levels along with ER stress markers. Collectively, our data suggest that sEH upregulation is strongly linked to ER stress in adiposity and that physical exercise modulates its expression. This gives further evidence that exercise might be useful as a strategy for managing obesity and preventing its associated complications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
