The Farallon plate began <a href="/wiki/Subduction" title="Subduction">subducting</a> under the west coast of the <a href="/wiki/North_American_plate" title="North American plate">North American plate</a>—then located in modern <a href="/wiki/Utah" title="Utah">Utah</a>—as <a href="/wiki/Pangaea" title="Pangaea">Pangaea</a> broke apart and after the formation of the <a href="/wiki/Pacific_plate" title="Pacific plate">Pacific plate</a> at the center of the triple junction during the <a href="/wiki/Early_Jurassic" title="Early Jurassic">Early Jurassic</a>.
