Quail eggs are precious aliments and also have important drug value. It is a natural source of vitamins and mineral substances. However, in the speciality literature there is little information regarding the quality indexes (morphological, physical and chemical) of quail eggs. After measuring the egg shape index, the eggs volume, the specific egg weight and after also analysing the longitudinal and transversal diameter ratio we reached a series of conclusion: the average weight was of 10.44 ± 0.13 grams, the eggs volume was of 9.675 – 10.472 cm 3 and a specific weight of 0.996 ± 0.01 g/cm 3 . Likewise the dimensions of these eggs were: 32.34 mm – longitudinal diameter and 24.92 – 24.97 mm for transversal diameter; the egg shape index had a value of 1.30/1, respective of 77.04 %. The quail eggs have albumen (egg white) that represents 58.37 % from ...","author":[{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"Person","name":"Anca Amaç: Bu çalışma bıldırcın yumurtalarında farklı kabuk ren-gi, benek rengi ve benek yaygınlığına sahip yumurtalarda iç ve dış kalite özelliklerini belirlemek amacıyla yürütüldü. Determination of some external and internal quality traits of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) eggs on the basis of eggshell colour and spot colour. Aim: In this study was aimed to determining internal and external quality of quail eggs with different eggshell colour, spot colour and spottiness. Material and Methods: In this study, daily collected 318 eggs were used. The treatment groups were classified as those with very large brown spots on greyish white eggshell colour (I), black spots of varying size on greyish white eggshell colour (II), large brown spots on brown eggshell colour (III), widely distributed brown spots on brown eggshell colour (IV), and blue spots of varying size on greyish white eggshell colour (V). The eggs were individually numbered. External quality characteristics were identified before egg broken out. After eggs were broken out, long and short diameter of albumen , albumen height, yolk diameter and yolk height were evaluated. Results: The differences for value of eggshell percentage and shell index between groups were statistically significant (P<0.01). The differences for albumen index, yolk index and Haugh unit between groups were significant (P<0.01, P<0. 001). Conclusion: It may be expressed that eggshell colour and spot colour in quail eggs are significantly affected egg quailty characteristics like eggshell percentage, shell eggs index, albumen index, yolk index and haugh unit.

<button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"Determination of some external and internal quality traits of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) eggs on the basis of eggshell colour and spot colour","attachmentId":44290295,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/23901330/Determination_of_some_external_and_internal_quality_traits_of_Japanese_quail_Coturnix_coturnix_japonica_eggs_on_the_basis_of_eggshell_colour_and_spot_colour","alternativeTracking":true}">downloadDownload free PDFView PDFchevron_right

Egg quality of Japanese quail in Serbia (Coturnix coturnix japonica)
Lidija Peric

Biotehnologija u stocarstvu, 2012

In the last years Japanese quail (Conturnix coturnix japonica) is becoming more popular as a source of meat and eggs. Information on egg quality characteristics has been limited mostly to chicken eggs. The aim of this paper is to enhance the knowledge on the quality of quail eggs. In this study external and internal quality traits of quail eggs from three different commercial farms will be presented. For egg mass, shape index, shell thickness, shell mass no significant difference was found between farms. For yolk colour, yolk and albumen mass, statistically significant differences were found between the three farms. The difference in shell breaking strength between farms A and B was not significant and significant differences were found between eggs from farm C. Yolk, albumen and shell percentage were in the same relation as the mass of these parameters. The worst albumen quality was recorded in eggs from farm A. Half eggs were measured 24 hrs. post lay and others were measured after one week of storage at room temperature. The results showed that there were significant differences among lines for egg length, yolk height, yolk index, albumen diameter, albumen index and Haugh unit. The light brown line resulted in the best quality. All internal egg quality characters and egg length were differed significantly between fresh and storage eggs. This means that the issues of evaluating hatching eggs, increasing hatchability, and the viability of young animals during artificial incubation do not lose their relevance. Comparative assessment was carried out on the quality of incubation eggs of Estonian and Manchurian Golden quail breeds with different mass-to-volume ratios, as well as the results of incubation and the values of electromagnetic impulses during the incubation of quail eggs. The material for the study was the eggs of the Estonian and Manchurian Golden (MG) breeds of quials. Eggs were selected with a shelf life of no more than 7 days. At the first phase, 100 eggs of each breed were opened and morphologically analyzed. At the second, three incubations were carried out. For each incubation, 150 eggs of the Estonian and Manchurian Golden breeds were selected, of those, 50 eggs were opened and a morphological analysis of the eggs of each breed was made. The incubation of quail eggs at the 2nd phase was carried out in IPH-10 incubators. At the 3rd phase, eggs were incubated individually in an R-COM DX-8800XP incubator. During incubation, the development of embryos was monitored by candling eggs on days 6, 11, and 16 of incubation. In the Manchurian Golden breed, 7.5 times fewer eggs fell into the first variation class, and 2.3 times more eggs into the third variation class compared to the Estonian breed (p < 0.05). The large diameter of the egg increased on average by 4.3%, while the small one decreased by 3.2%. Egg shape index increased by 3.3% in Manchurian eggs, while by 2.9% in Estonian eggs (p < 0.05). The value of the "Haugh unit" index decreased by 4.2% in the eggs of the Manchurian Golden breed, while by 5.9% in the eggs of the Estonian breed (p < 0.05). The ratio of mass and volume significantly affected the results of incubation of eggs. In the second and third classes, an average of 6.1 and 2.7% more quials hatched than in the first class. In terms of hatchability of eggs, these differences were more significant and amounted to 15.8 and 14.0%, respectively.

<button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"Influence of the ratio of the mass and volume of quail eggs on their morphometric indicators and incubation results","attachmentId":106496452,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/107990086/Influence_of_the_ratio_of_the_mass_and_volume_of_quail_eggs_on_their_morphometric_indicators_and_incubation_results","alternativeTracking":true}">downloadDownload free PDFView PDFchevron_right

The Impact of Eggshell Colour on the Quality of Table and Hatching Eggs Derived from Japanese Quail
Justyna Batkowska

Animals

The aim of the study was to evaluate table and hatching eggs of Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) depending on the eggshell colour.
