However, the concept of a park, as a cultivated area of land set aside for recreation and enjoyment, can be related to several biblical themes and locations that reflect the beauty and intentional design of God's creation.

Garden of Eden

The most direct biblical parallel to a park is the Garden of Eden, described in Genesis as a place of perfect beauty and harmony. Genesis 2:8-9 states, "And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed. Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food." This garden was a divine sanctuary, a place where humanity first experienced the presence of God and the abundance of His creation.

Royal Gardens and Parks

In the ancient Near East, royal gardens and parks were common features of palatial complexes. These gardens were often lush, well-watered, and filled with exotic plants and animals, serving as symbols of the king's wealth and power. While the Bible does not explicitly mention "parks," it does reference royal gardens. For example, King Solomon is known for his extensive building projects, which likely included gardens. Ecclesiastes 2:5 mentions, "I made myself gardens and parks and planted in them all kinds of fruit trees."

Symbolism of Gardens and Parks

Gardens and parks in the Bible often symbolize peace, prosperity, and divine blessing. The imagery of a well-watered garden is used to describe the blessings of God upon His people. Isaiah 58:11 states, "The LORD will always guide you; He will satisfy you in a sun-scorched land and strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail."

Eschatological Imagery

In eschatological visions, the imagery of a restored and perfect creation often includes elements reminiscent of a park or garden. The Book of Revelation describes the New Jerusalem with the river of the water of life and the tree of life, echoing the paradisiacal imagery of Eden. Revelation 22:1-2 says, "Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the main street of the city. On either side of the river stood a tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit and yielding a fresh crop for each month."

Conclusion

While the specific term "park" is not found in the Bible, the concept is richly represented through the imagery of gardens and cultivated spaces that reflect God's creative power and the beauty of His creation. These spaces serve as reminders of the divine order, the blessings of God, and the hope of a restored creation in the eschatological future.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
1. The same word occurs in Songs 4:13, "Thy shoots are an orchard (the Revised Version margin "paradise") of pomegranates." according to Liddell and Scott, paradeisos occurs first in Xenophon, who always uses it of the parks of Persian kings and noblemen. Like many other quadriliterals the word is undoubtedly of eastern origin. It seems to connote an enclosure. It is used in Septuagint of the Garden of Eden.
