Todo lo contrario, enclavada en el Barrio de la Boca el estadio era completo de madera.</p> <p>Su inauguración se produjo el 6 de Julio de 1924, con un partido ante Nacional de Montevideo que favoreció a los locales por 2 a 1. En aquella tan formal e insigne ocasión, se contó con la presencia del presidente de la república, don Marcelo T. Alvear, el cual fue acompañado pr su ministro de guerra, Agustín P. donde se ve al Maestro en andas rodeado por sus dirigidos de la mítica selección del ´62. Pero la vida de este gran director técnico no empezó ni terminó con el Mundial de Chile ´62, sino que su carrera comenzó muy temprano en 1937 como jugador de fútbol vistiendo los colores de Unión Española. Posteriormente fue campeón con Universidad Católica en 1949. Curiosamente, fueron las únicas camisetas que defendió en Chile, porque en 1950 emigra a Europa a jugar por el Stade de Reims de Francia (cosa muy inusual por aquellos años, especialmente para un jugador chileno). En 1952 recaló en el FC Rouen y al año siguiente viste los colores de Deportivo Vasco en Venezuela. En 1953 vuelve a Francia a defender al FC Rouen hasta que se retira en 1954.</p> <p>Riera destacó como delantero y eso lo hizo defender a Chile en variadas ocasiones, siendo la Copa del Mundo de Brasil ´50 su única participación mundialista. En aquella oportunidad jugó un solo partido y marcó uno de los cinco goles en el triunfo con Estados Unidos que hasta hace muy poco, era el último triunfo de un seleccionado chileno jugando fuera de casa.</p> <p>En 1954 inicia su extensa carrera como entrenador. El Os Belenenses de Portugal fue su primer equipo por 3 años consecutivos, hasta que en 1957 se enfrenta a su mayor reto, hacerse cargo de la selección chilena, equipo que anfitrión de la Copa del Mundo de 1962. El 3er lugar le vale el reconocimiento mundial y lo lleva a dirigir al bicampeón de Europa, el mítico Benfica de Portugal, cuadro donde militaba el gran Eusebio. Con el cuadro luso obtiene un subcampeonato europeo y dos ligas de Portugal en 1962/63 y 1966/67.</p> <p>El 23 de Octubre de 1963 obtiene otro gran honor. De gran físico, se caracterizó por su potente juego aéreo. Goleador, hábil y veloz, lo hacían resolver mentalmente muy rápido las jugadas en el área.</p> <p>Si bien su apellido italiano de origen era Cerro, la pronunciación del mismo al castellanizarlo lo transformó en Cherro (algo similar le pasó a Batistuta, que su apellido original era Battisttutta con 6 “t”).</p> <p>Sus pasos como futbolista se originaron en Sportivo Barracas (amateur), Boca Juniors donde disputó 301 partidos, para terminar su carrera en Ferrocarril Oeste. Obviamente que su tremenda capacidad goleadora lo llevaron a vestir la camiseta de la Selección Argentina, donde jugó 16 partidos convirtiendo 12 goles.</p> <p>Con la albiceleste lo llevó a obtener la Medalla de Plata en los Juegos Olímpicos de Amsterdam ´28 y la Copa del Mundo de Uruguay ´30 donde la Argentina cayó derrotada en la Final ante el equipo anfitrión por 2-4.</p> <p>En 1965 a los 59 ahí para hacer los goles, pero si estamos claros que su metodología y filosofía imponen un sello distinto a los planteles, que son grupos muchas veces complicados de manejar.</p> <p>Ángel Cappa forma parte de esa raza distinta que anda dando vuelta por el “Planeta Fútbol” y que les dan a sus equipos una filosofía de buen fútbol.</p> <p>Cappa nace en Bahía Blanca en 1946 y su puesto natural fue volante central. Como jugador, defendió los colores de Olimpo y Villa Mitre (ambos de su ciudad) y llegó a integrar la selección de la Liga del Sur.</p> <p>Antes de iniciar su carrera de Entrenador en España, curso estudios de Filosofía y Psicopedagogía.</p> <p>Los equipos de Cappa rápidamente se destacaron por su buen manejo de balón y después de haber estado 3 años a cargo de los juveniles de la Federación Castellana, daría un gran salto al ser invitado por César Luis Menotti a dirigir el seleccionado de Argentina en 1981. Una vez finalizada la Copa del Mundo de España ´82, llegó junto al “Flaco” al Barcelona donde conquistaron la Copa del Rey, una Copa de la Liga y Supercopa.</p> <p>Luego de su paso por España, se hace cargo de Banfield (con dispar suerte), Huracán (en la “B” Nacional) hasta que su camino vuelve a toparse con Menotti para conducir en 1990 al mítico Peñarol de Montevideo.<br /> Los malos resultados hacen insostenible la estabilidad de esta dupla técnica y son despedidos. Es ahí donde Cappa decide retornar a España y se une a Jorge Valdano en 1991 que recién iniciaba su carrera de Director Técnico.</p> <p>Juntos, hacen del Tenerife un equipo de temer y si bien, el primer año lograron zafar del descenso, son recordados por las notables campañas donde el equipo “Canario” clasifica por primera vez a la Copa de la UEFA y logran arruinarles al Real Madrid dos Campeonatos de Liga seguidos.</p> <p>Pero es en el equipo “Merengue” donde alcanzan su primer título de Liga con un equipo de grandes jugadores que desplegaba un fútbol de alto nivel: Raúl, Amavisca, Hierro, Laudrup, Redondo, Luis Enrique, o Zamorano entre otros.</p> <p>Luego de la experiencia Madrilista, Cappa se sienta en el banco de Las Palmas y regresa a Racing Club en 1998 donde alcanza el 2do lugar junto a Gimnasia y Esgrima de la Plata en un torneo que gana el gran Boca Juniors de Carlos Bianchi.</p> <p>Clubes con Atlante de México, otras vez el Tenerife de España, Universitario de Lima y Mamelodi Sundowns de Sudáfrica han disfrutado de este verdadero filósofo del fútbol, el cual antes de aceptar su desafío actual, Huracán de Argentina, estaba abocado a su faceta de escritor (“¿Y el fútbol dónde está?”) y comentarista deportivo para medios de comunicación de Europa y Argentina.<br /> Hay una frase de Ángel Cappa que lo identifica plenamente como persona. Un día, le dijo a sus jugadores “Crean en ustedes. El maestro no enseña nada, ayuda a aprender al alumno. Y yo también. Transmito lo que he aprendido”.</p> <p>Esa frase ocurre en un mundo donde muchas veces los técnicos tienen más protagonismo que los futbolistas. La Libertadores estaba ahí, más bella que nunca. Colo – Colo ´73 estuvo muy cerca, dos años después, Unión Española no pudo; el brillante Cobreloa de Vicente Cantatore rozó la gloria en 1981 y 1982, pero el sueño se truncó.</p> <p>El sueño terminó y se transformó en realidad cuando el gran Jaime Pizarro alzó la Copa Libertadores de América, esa noche Colo – Colo fue Chile, porque miles de hinchas salieron a las calles a celebrar, miles de banderas blancas y nuestra amada tricolor flamearon más que nuca. Era verdad, Colo – Colo era de América y un sólo grito hizo eco en nuestro angosto territorio, Campeones!!! Campeones!!!</p> <p>El camino no fue fácil, el flamante finalista de 1990, Barcelona de Guayaquil y Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito, ambos de Ecuador asomaron como rivales junto a Deportes Concepción de Chile. Luego llegó Universitario de Lima, que en partidos de ida y vuelta muy apretados, lograron los «albos» sortear con éxito. Apareció un gigante del Atlántico, Nacional de Montevideo y posteriormente el poderoso Boca Juniors de Gabriel Omar Batistuta y Diego Latorre. Es 2 verdaderas batallas, que dejaron verdaderos heridos, Colo – Colo se veía la cara ante el gran <a href="https://pepelotas.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/olimpia-rey-de-copas/" target="_blank">«Rey de Copas»</a>, <a href="https://pepelotas.wordpress.com/2009/02/26/olimpia-del-paraguay-campeon-del-mundo/" target="_blank">Olimpia del Paraguay</a><a href="https://pepelotas.wordpress.com/2009/02/26/olimpia-del-paraguay-campeon-del-mundo/" target="_blank"> </a>(campeón vigente).</p> <p>A muerto el rey, viva el rey!!!! Se terminaron años de frustraciones y se pensó que por fin venía el despegue definitivo del fútbol chileno. Pero no, Universidad Católica llegó a la final del ´93, pero no puedo. El ´96 la Universidad de Chile alcanzó las semifinales y el ´97 Colo – Colo lo mismo y hasta ahí llegamos. Jugaba Vélez Sarsfield de José Luis Chilavert contra el Boca Juniors de Diego Armando Maradona… fue un partido pleno de emociones, donde pasó de todo. Ganó Vélez 5-1 de local, Chilavert volvió a colocarse el traje de héroe, no sólo por lo que atajó, sino por su mortal pegada de tiro libre. Además, el primer gol fue de Claudio Caniggia, que terminó besándose en la boca con Diego Armando Maradona.</p> <p>Como buen guión de acción, este gran encuentro tuvo una de las discusiones más inolvidables que se hayan visto en un campo de fútbol entre un árbitro y un jugador. En 1986 se titulaba Campeón de la Segunda División y en 1987 alcanzaba la gloria en la Primera División, al adjudicarse al Temporada 1986/87.<br /> Con Omar Palma como estandarte y goleador del torneo con 20 tantos, Rosario Central logra gritar campeón con mucha angustia. class="entry"> <p>Siempre me ha llamado la atención lo complicado que es jugarle a los equipos paraguayos. No es fácil ganarles y siempre hacen partidos más que difíciles (los franceses todavía están gritando el gol de Blanc en los Octavos de Final de la Copa del Mundo de Francia ´98).</p> <p>Olimpia del Paraguay <a href="https://pepelotas.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/olimpia-rey-de-copas/" target="_blank">tiene una historia rica en triunfos,</a> pero es el año 1979 una de las fechas que están grabadas a fuego en la mente de miles de Olimpistas, aquellos que vieron como su equipo se consagraba como el mejor de América y el Mundo. Año en que miles de paraguayos salieron a celebrar… jóvenes, adultos mayores, padres con sus hijos e hijas abrazados, todos fueron un solo grito, que no dejó indiferente a nadie.</p> <p>Al mando del uruguayo Luis Cubilla, El Decano como se le conoce enfrentó en la final de la Copa Libertadores de América a Boca Juniors de la Argentina, al cual venció 2-0 en Asunción y empató sin goles en Buenos Aires. Esto le valió jugar la Final de la Copa Intercontinental contra el Malmö FF de Suecia, al cual derrotó de visita 1-0 y 2-1 como local.</p> <p>Para finalizar un año glorioso, Olimpia del Paraguay, club fundado en 1902, gana la Copa Interamericana de Clubes al derrotar en el global al Deportivo FAS de El Salvador.</p> <p>Inolvidables los nombres de Almeida, Solalinde, Paredes, Jiménez, Piazza,
