this is to be distinguished from other manifestations of <a href="/wiki/God" title="God">God</a>. Eucharistic miracles are most known and emphasized within the context of the Catholic Church, which distinguishes between <a href="/wiki/Divine_revelation" class="mw-redirect" title="Divine revelation">divine revelation</a>, such as the Eucharist, and <a href="/wiki/Private_revelation" title="Private revelation">private revelation</a>, such as Eucharistic miracles. </p><p>In general, reported Eucharistic miracles usually consist of unexplainable phenomena such as consecrated Hosts visibly transforming into <a href="/wiki/Cardiac_muscle" title="Cardiac muscle">myocardium tissue</a>, being preserved for extremely long stretches of time, surviving being thrown into fire, bleeding, or even sustaining people for decades. In the Catholic Church, a special task-force<a href="#cite_note-1"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a> or commission scientifically investigates supposed Eucharistic miracles before deciding whether they are "worthy of belief," in order to differentiate real Eucharistic miracles from cases of contamination by bacteria, such as <i><a href="/wiki/Neurospora_crassa" title="Neurospora crassa">Neurospora crassa</a></i> or <i><a href="/wiki/Serratia_marcescens" title="Serratia marcescens">Serratia marcescens</a></i>. </p><p>As with other private revelations, such as <a href="/wiki/Marian_apparitions" class="mw-redirect" title="Marian apparitions">Marian apparitions</a>, belief in approved miracles is not mandated by the Catholic Church, but often serves to reassure believers of God's presence or as the means to "send a message" to the population at large.[<i><a href="/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed" title="Wikipedia:Citation needed"><span title="This claim needs references to reliable sources. They are at the same time body and blood, bread and wine. This divine food is given, more-over, not just for the strengthening of faith, nor only as a sign of our unity in faith, nor merely as an assurance of the forgiveness of sin. Even more, in this sacrament the Lutheran Christian receives the very body and blood of Christ precisely for the strengthening of the union of faith. The "real presence" of Christ in the Holy Sacrament is the means by which the union of faith, effected by God's Word and the sacrament of baptism, is strengthened and maintained. Intimate union with Christ, in other words, leads directly to the most intimate communion in his holy body and blood.</q></cite><span title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Abook&rft.genre=book&rft.btitle=Changing+Churches%3A+An+Orthodox%2C+Catholic%2C+and+Lutheran+Theological+Conversation&rft.pages=54&rft.pub=Wm.+B.+Eerdmans+Publishing&rft.date=2012-02-27&rft.isbn=9780802866943&rft.aulast=Mattox&rft.aufirst=Mickey+L.&rft.au=Roeber%2C+A.+G.&rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Fen.wikipedia.org%3AEucharistic+miracle" class="Z3988"></span></span> </li> <li id="cite_note-Wandel2006-11"><span class="mw-cite-backlink"><b><a href="#cite_ref-Wandel2006_11-0">^</a></b></span> <span class="reference-text"><link rel="mw-deduplicated-inline-style" href="mw-data:TemplateStyles:r1238218222"><cite id="CITEREFWandel2006" class="citation book cs1">Wandel, Lee Palmer (2006). <i>The Eucharist in the Reformation</i>.
