Subjects of this study are two English teachers and Students at Pesantren al-Falah. This study also investigates the way of English teaching methods or strategies in the classroom. There are two main instruments to collect data, those are Observation and interview guidelines. The result of the study indicates that the most teaching methods used are still a teacher-centered, direct method and habituation. This is due to the influence of the traditional Arabic learning model which is still largely focused on what is conveyed by the teacher in the classroom. But this Pesantren also implemented a communicative approach to develop the speaking skill of the students. This study was qualitative research with a case study approach. The participants of this study were two teachers of English at pesantren in MUBA regency. To find out the challenges faced by the teachers in teaching English, the data gained from observation and interviews were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The findings indicated that there were five challenges faced by the teachers of English in teaching English: 1) improving students’ motivation; 2) improving students’ language competence; 3) managing over-crowded class; 4) managing limited time; and 5) facing lack of supporting facilities. Recognition of these problems and the possible remedies are beneficial for teachers, which will equip them with insightful ideas about how to manage their teaching and learning activities for the successful implementation of this method. Through open-ended interviews and in line with the sampling procedures of Grounded Theory, this study theoretically sampled fifteen experienced EFL teachers' techniques to uncover the conditions that help teachers' adopt suitable techniques to cater for individual differences. The careful coding schemes of the grounded theory method yielded a set of categories – "Techniques of Teaching Conversation and Techniques of Teaching Speaking Skill" as the main categories, coupled with some sub-categories such as "The Use of Mother Tongue in Teaching Conversation", " Warm-up", and "Role-play" that are used for conversation skills; " Summarizing and Storytelling", "Picture Describing" and "Practicing Linguistic Patterns " for speaking skills. Further studies need to be undertaken to uncover other pertinent skills and strategies in other contexts. Only then can the field replace skills of CLT which are assumed to be applicable across numerous of conditions. It is hoped that these findings may be useful for students, teachers, syllabus designers and educational managers to give more attention to CLT.</p><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button centuries, English has become an indispensable part of educational curriculum in Iranian schools. Despite all the efforts and investments devoted to cultivate and popularize English among Iranian language learners, the resultant outcome could not live up to the authorities' expectations. Generally speaking, the process of teaching and learning English as a foreign language in Iran is not satisfactory. A great body of research has proved that different factors are involved in this process. The researcher made an attempt to examine all the possibly existing researches which investigated/focused on the problems of teaching/learning English in Iran to elicit these factors and to scrutinize the existing problems. The study focused on research questions regarding (a) their perceptions about English language learning, and (b) whether the student teachers’ perception about language learning differs according to gender. Data were collected via a literature-based instrument whose analysis revealed a positive perception about English language learning. The findings of this study revealed that the highest mean average among the five components of beliefs about language learning was the belief of motivation and expectations (M= 4.45), followed by the belief of the nature of language learning (M= 4.02) and the belief of learning and communication strategies (M= 3.82). The two components with the lowest scores were the belief of foreign language aptitude (M= 3.58) and the belief of language learning difficulty (M= 3.19). Furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences between the beliefs of the male and female students.
