and they presented<MH3320> themselves before<MH6440> God<MH430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Joshua<MH3091> said<MH559> to all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: ‘From ancient<MH5769> times<MH5769> your fathers<MH1> lived<MH3427> beyond<MH5676> the <i>Euphrates</i> River<MH5104>, <i>namely,</i> Terah<MH8646>, the father<MH1> of Abraham<MH85> and the father<MH1> of Nahor<MH5152>, and they served<MH5647> other<MH312> gods<MH430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then I took<MH3947> your father<MH1> Abraham<MH85> from beyond<MH4480, 5676> the <i>Euphrates</i> River<MH5104> and led<MH1980> him through all<MH3605> the land<MH776> of Canaan<MH3667a>, and multiplied<MH7235a> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>descendants<MH2233> and gave<MH5414> him Isaac<MH3327>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>To Isaac<MH3327> I gave<MH5414> Jacob<MH3290> and Esau<MH6215>, and to Esau<MH6215> I gave<MH5414> Mount<MH2022> Seir<MH8165>, to possess<MH3423> it; but Jacob<MH3290> and his sons<MH1121> went<MH3381> down<MH3381> to Egypt<MH4714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then I sent<MH7971> Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>, and I plagued<MH5062> Egypt<MH4714> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>by what<MH834> I did<MH6213a> in its midst<MH7130>; and afterward<MH310> I brought<MH3318> you out<MH3318>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>So I brought<MH3318> your fathers<MH1> out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714>, and you came<MH935> to the sea<MH3220>; and Egypt<MH4714> pursued<MH7291> your fathers<MH1> with chariots<MH7393> and horsemen<MH6571b> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>Red<MH5488> Sea<MH3220>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>But when they cried<MH6817> out<MH6817> to the LORD<MH3068>, He put<MH7760> darkness<MH3990> between<MH996> you and the Egyptians<MH4713>, and brought<MH935> the sea<MH3220> upon them and covered<MH3680> them; and your own eyes<MH5869> saw<MH7200> what<MH834> I did<MH6213a> in Egypt<MH4714>. And you lived<MH3427> in the wilderness<MH4057b> for a long<MH7227a> time<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Then I brought<MH935> you into the land<MH776> of the Amorites<MH567>, who lived<MH3427> beyond<MH5676> the Jordan<MH3383>, and they fought<MH3898a> with you; but I handed<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH5414> to you, and you took<MH3423> possession<MH3423> of their land<MH776> when I eliminated<MH8045> them before<MH6440> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then Balak<MH1111> the son<MH1121> of Zippor<MH6834>, king<MH4428> of Moab<MH4124>, rose<MH6965> up<MH6965> and fought<MH3898a> against Israel<MH3478>, and he sent<MH7971> <i>messengers</i> and summoned<MH7121> Balaam<MH1109a> the son<MH1121> of Beor<MH1160> to curse<MH7043> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>But I was<MH14> not willing<MH14> to listen<MH8085> to Balaam<MH1109a>. So he had to bless<MH1288> you, and I saved<MH5337> you from his hand<MH3027>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>You crossed<MH5674a> the Jordan<MH3383> and came<MH935> to Jericho<MH3405>; and the citizens<MH1167> of Jericho<MH3405> fought<MH3898a> against you, <i>and</i> the Amorite<MH567>, the Perizzite<MH6522>, the Canaanite<MH3669a>, the Hittite<MH2850>, the Girgashite<MH1622>, the Hivite<MH2340>, and the Jebusite<MH2983>. Therefore I handed<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH5414> to you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then I sent<MH7971> the hornet<MH6880> before<MH6440> you and it <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>drove<MH1644> out<MH1644> the two<MH8147> kings<MH4428> of the Amorites<MH567> from you—not by your sword<MH2719> nor your bow<MH7198>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And I gave<MH5414> you a land<MH776> on which<MH834> you had not labored<MH3021>, and cities<MH5892b> which<MH834> you had not built<MH1129>, and you have lived<MH3427> in them; you are eating<MH398> of vineyards<MH3754> and olive<MH2132> groves<MH2132> which<MH834> you did not plant<MH5193>.’ <p class="hdg">“We Will Serve the LORD”</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>“Now<MH6258>, therefore, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>fear<MH3372a> the LORD<MH3068> and serve<MH5647> Him in sincerity<MH8549> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>truth<MH571>; and do<MH5493> away<MH5493> with the gods<MH430> which<MH834> your fathers<MH1> served<MH5647> beyond<MH5676> the <i>Euphrates</i> River<MH5104> and in Egypt<MH4714>, and serve<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But if<MH518> it is disagreeable<MH7451a> in your sight<MH5869> to serve<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068>, choose<MH977> for yourselves today<MH3117> whom<MH4310> you will serve<MH5647>: whether<MH518> the gods<MH430> which<MH834> your fathers<MH1> served<MH5647>, which<MH834> were beyond<MH5676> the <i>Euphrates</i> River<MH5104>, or the gods<MH430> of the Amorites<MH567> in whose<MH834> land<MH776> you are living<MH3427>; but as for me and my house<MH1004>, we will serve<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>The people<MH5971a> answered<MH6030a> and said<MH559>, “Far<MH2486> be it from us that we would abandon<MH5800a> the LORD<MH3068> to serve<MH5647> other<MH312> gods<MH430>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>for the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> is He who brought<MH5927> us and our fathers<MH1> up<MH5927> out of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, from the house<MH1004> of slaves<MH5650>, and did<MH6213a> these<MH428> great<MH1419> signs<MH226> in our sight<MH5869> and watched<MH8104> over<MH8104> us through all<MH3605> the way<MH1870> in which<MH834> we went<MH1980> and among all<MH3605> the peoples<MH5971a> through whose<MH834> midst<MH7130> we passed<MH5674a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> drove<MH1644> out<MH1644> from before<MH6440> us all<MH3605> the peoples<MH5971a>, even the Amorites<MH567> who lived<MH3427> in the land<MH776>. We also<MH1571> will serve<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068>, for He is our God<MH430>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> said<MH559> to the people<MH5971a>, “You will not be<MH3201> able<MH3201> to serve<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068>, for He is a holy<MH6918> God<MH430>. He is a jealous<MH7072> God<MH410>; He will not forgive<MH5375> your wrongdoing<MH6588> or your sins<MH2403b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>If<MH3588> you abandon<MH5800a> the LORD<MH3068> and serve<MH5647> foreign<MH5236> gods<MH430>, then He will turn<MH7725> and do<MH7489a> you harm<MH7489a> and destroy<MH3615> you after<MH310> He has done<MH3190> good<MH3190> to you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And the people<MH5971a> said<MH559> to Joshua<MH3091>, “No<MH3808>, but we will serve<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> said<MH559> to the people<MH5971a>, “You are witnesses<MH5707> against yourselves that you have chosen<MH977> for yourselves the LORD<MH3068>, to serve<MH5647> Him.” And they said<MH559>, “<i>We are</i> witnesses<MH5707>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>“Now<MH6258> then, do<MH5493> away<MH5493> with the foreign<MH5236> gods<MH430> which<MH834> are in your midst<MH7130>, and incline<MH5186> your hearts<MH3824> to the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And the people<MH5971a> said<MH559> to Joshua<MH3091>, “We will serve<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>obey<MH8085> His voice<MH6963>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> made<MH3772> a covenant<MH1285> with the people<MH5971a> that day<MH3117>, and made<MH7760> for them a statute<MH2706> and an ordinance<MH4941> in Shechem<MH7927>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And Joshua<MH3091> wrote<MH3789> these<MH428> words<MH1697> in the Book<MH5612> of the Law<MH8451> of God<MH430>; and he took<MH3947> a large<MH1419> stone<MH68> and set<MH6965> it up<MH6965> there<MH8033> under<MH8478> the oak<MH427> that was by the sanctuary<MH4720> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> said<MH559> to all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a>, “Behold<MH2009>, this<MH2088> stone<MH68> shall be a witness<MH5713a> against us, because<MH3588> it has heard<MH8085> all<MH3605> the words<MH561> of the LORD<MH3068> which<MH834> He spoke<MH1696> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>to us; so it shall be a witness<MH5713a> against you, so<MH6435> that<MH6435> you do not<MH6435> deny<MH3584> your God<MH430>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> dismissed<MH7971> the people<MH5971a>, each<MH376> to his inheritance<MH5159>. <p class="hdg">Joshua’s Death and Burial</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Now it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> after<MH310> these<MH428> things<MH1697> that Joshua<MH3091> the son<MH1121> of Nun<MH5126>, the servant<MH5650> of the LORD<MH3068>, died<MH4191>, being 110<MH3967, 6235> years<MH8141> old<MH1121>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And they buried<MH6912> him in the territory<MH1366> of his inheritance<MH5159>, in Timnath-serah<MH8556b>, which<MH834> is in the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Ephraim<MH669>, on the north<MH6828> of Mount<MH2022> Gaash<MH1608>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Israel<MH3478> served<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068> all<MH3605> the days<MH3117> of Joshua<MH3091> and all<MH3605> the days<MH3117> of the elders<MH2205> who<MH834> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>survived<MH748, 3117, 310> Joshua<MH3091>, and had known<MH3045> every<MH3605> deed<MH4639> of the LORD<MH3068> which<MH834> He had done<MH6213a> for Israel<MH3478>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Now they buried<MH6912> the bones<MH6106> of Joseph<MH3130>, which<MH834> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> brought<MH5927> up<MH5927> from Egypt<MH4714>, at Shechem<MH7927>, in the plot<MH2513a> of land<MH7704> which<MH834> Jacob<MH3290> had bought<MH7069> from the sons<MH1121> of Hamor<MH2544> the father<MH1> of Shechem<MH7927> for a hundred<MH3967> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>pieces<MH7192> of<MH7192> money<MH7192>; and they became<MH1961> the inheritance<MH5159> of Joseph’s<MH3130> sons<MH1121>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/24-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And Eleazar<MH499> the son<MH1121> of Aaron<MH175> died<MH4191>;
